Brett Favre previously set a personal deadline of July 30 to let the Vikings know whether he’ll play this season.
NFL.com’s Thomas George says he won’t wait that long.
George says the people “closest to Favre” expect a decision by this Friday, July 24. And like everyone else, they expect the answer to be yes.
Favre would reportedly already have said yes if Minnesota were closer to his Hattiesburg home, like New Orleans.
He also reportedly “questions whether he wants to endure the toil of a training camp.”
In the end, these concerns are expected to be put to rest, just like the endless conjecture about Favre’s possible return.
Four days and counting. (We hope.)
This entire scenario is a conspiracy by the Green Bay Packers. It was conjured up in late 2007, Packers management thought to themselves how can we actively still use Brett. The great minds in GB were thinking what if we stage a falling out between the team and Favre. Then trade him to a team for a year at which time he will fake an injury to get released/retire. Then Favre will push to sign with the purple only to lead them to a fifth super bowl only to throw the game. So the Packer Fans can make fun of the Vikings for losing the most superbowls in the history of the NFL!
Vikings Fans Remember the let down in 1998 NFC championship game….yeah it is going to be the same feeling again.
Florio writes “Four days and counting. (We hope.)”
But you really like hammering Favre on how he takes so long to make decisions, how can this be a good thing when you lose one of your most effective weapons? Oh wait- you will find any excuse to hammer Favre so I guess it really does not matter does it?
From a marketing prospective, the Vikings would be clearly wrong to not sign Favre before camp. They should be doing everything in there power to get him to make a decision before the 30th. Ticket sales are a huge portion to what teams will have to offer in the future. And on top of that with the teams getting 100% of Pre-Season ticket sales and them playing Dallas and Kansas City I honestly think that they should be giving Mr. Favre anything in the world in order to sell out , if not both, than at least one, of there two Pre-Season games.
Please no! I want this to drag on as long as possible. It makes my day so much more enjoyable to know I can always rely on interesting Brett Favre updates each day. We love you Brett!
Favre is the man!
And by man, I mean biggest joke of all times.
As much as I dislike Butt Farte, I think it would be impossible for him to throw a game. It simply isn’t in his nature.
He could certainly lose an important game, as he’s done for so many years now, but I simply don’t believe he could throw a game.
Poor haters. LOL
We are getting Farve and you have what?
Hahahahhahahhahahaha!
Must suck to be a pukers fan. Bitchslapped by their own HOV QB. Priceless!
How about we just put this on the “Who Gives a Shit Page?”
Blah Blah Blah Favre, I’m not saying anything interesting blah blah blah, rehash of some other loser’s article about nothing blah blah blah.
Here are some other scenarios since you have already suggested about 30 others (did Palin steal Favre’s thunder? Is that why your number one theory about him coming back on the 3rd was squashed?)
1) Favre will announce his decision tomorrow
2) Favre will announce his decision wednesday
3) Favre will announce his decision thursday
4) Favre will announce his decision saturday
5) You will not shut up about this despite the fact that none of your information seems to have any backing and the info that does seem to have backing always turns out wrong.
So please just stick to telling me about how a Columbian hit squad took out Steve McNair, because at least I can laugh at that nonsense.
Regardless of if Favre sticks it to the Packers (either by having played well for the Jets or leading the Vikings to victory) he’s probably exacted some measure of revenge just by making the Packers’ past and upcoming season filled with controversy.
Had Favre just faded away after retiring, I think McCarthy and Thompson would have gotten more of a free ride. I think the continuing buzzing around by Favre has made them seem more beleaguered, less in control.

Oh I don’t know…… only the 2nd QB to ever throw for over 4000yds in their first year as a starter. One that also had better individual passing stats than last year’s NFL MVP- Peyton Manning AND Brett Favre. The guy who led the offense to 5th most points in the NFL. Other than that…not much!
It was obviously a great move considering that he showed his age with the Jets the last half of the season. You Queen’s fans act like you are getting Favre during the middle of his MVP run or something. The stats will be better again this year by the QB in Green Bay than any guy who wears purple, whether it’s Favre or otherwise.
What is an HOV QB?????
Calling “Devil’s Advocate.” Where are you? We miss that original and “funny” comment of yours that accompanies every Favre post.
Florio jumped the shark..your opinion on most things related to football are sh!t, i can’t believe NBC wants anything to do with this site….
How about an article regarding how Favre is “getting in shape” for the nfl season by throwing passes to high school kids (with no rush btw) for 3 days a week? I’ve heard of rough offseason training programs before but they don’t hold a candle to this grueling routine.
oh joy..oh joy .. ohh i cant take no more !!! ooohh the suspense of it all!!!!!!!
Now Rosenthal lets one blast!!! PFT couldn’t even hold it for 2 hours and 19 minutes before they sharted their pants again!
The “Days Without a FART/FAVRE Meter” is still reading zero.

Hey Packer Fans….How many games last year? go ahead and tell us how many did you win? oh…oh gosh? 6 games??? What happened??? didn’t you have that hall of fame quaterback who brought you to the nfc championship the year before? oh wait you traded him? how many games did that guys team win…oh snap…MORE THAN THE PACK….Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok ok ok hold on….now how many games did the vikes win…oh sh*t thats right we took the division last year with Gpa gus and t sh*tty….booooom

Yep, those lengthy 2 weeks of training camp in Mankato, MN (before they shift to Winter Park)will be gruesome and unbearable.
Thank goodness training camps are only ten days or so away and there will be so much more to write about.

“So the Packer Fans can make fun of the Vikings for losing the most superbowls in the history of the NFL!”
The only thing Packer fans are gonna be making fun of is your new 3-4 defense and how that number represents your wins and losses almost halfway throught the season! Basically your remarks along with most Packer fans represents”FEAR”! I’ll be laughing as AP and Favre slice up that “D”! Save your words for game time and change your name to coldfromunda!!
I hear Farve was upset about Michael Jackson’s death…because it bumped him off the front page.
I almost want him to change his mind again and say “no” just to see the Vikings coaches and management scramble to un-pork the QB situation they will find themselves in.
Poor Brett seems to be close the end of the road. It is interesting that only the Vikings have an interest in him. There are a numerous teams that could use a strong arm. Could you imagine the ego problems had Brett been signed by Buffalo? Prior to the Cutler deal Chicago would have been a nice fit. How about Denver? Who thinks Orton or Simms will light up the sky there? I think the great Brett Farve will be a great flame out in Minnesota.
A.) Everyone trying to call out Mike Florio for this story, shut the f–k up and locate some credibility. “Big Stretch” and “ZombieRevolution”, I’m looking at you. Florio didn’t write it, Gregg Rosenthal did. Jackasses.
2.) This is, for the most part, simply a report on a story that is headlining NFL.com at the moment, so what is the point of bitching at any PFT staff member (Florio or otherwise)? This is NFL news right now. They’re reporting it themselves. If you have a problem with Favre stories, SKIP OVER THEM.
No is forcing you to click links on stories that that clearly contain Favre’s name. But you won’t skip over them, will you? Noooo, because you LOVE to bitch.
Favre is the Man! He’s the best athlete in the last 4,286 years. He saved a Fortune 100,000 company (Wrangler) from fledgling in these tough times. I named my cat after him. Love him! Way to Go Brett!
LarryBird18 says:
Hey Legend, it’s all in the past brother. CHI, MIN, and GB were all 4-2 in the division in ’08. Favre didn’t take GB to the NFC Champ game in ’07, Ryan Grant and the #7 rated Defense did.
Dan Marino says: I think the great Brett Farve will be a great flame out in Minnesota.
Well “Marino” even so at least Favre flames out walking and not limping with braces on his knees and never getting a ring!
My Pack had a rough one last season, no doubt. But for as many games as GB lost by 4 or less, the Vikes won just as many by 4 or less. I can think of three of the top of my head (Saints, GB and eh, hem, beating the 0-16 Lions by 2 points, last second FG). I mean seriously Viking fans, you beat the worst team in the history of Sports by a combined 6 points. And the 1st victory is arguably tainted by a fluke PI call that you should have lost. Quit acting like your team was the mightiest team in the division last year, GB, CHI and MIN all went 4-2 in the North.
Wouldn’t it be hilarious at this point if he said no?
The most hilarious thing is the complete flip-flopping by the Packer and Bi queen fans..now it’s the Pack fans bashing far and the “queen fans defending his every action and worshipping him like he’s the second coming. Then they all sit on here and bash each other!!! Absolutley HILARIOUS…fyi Viking fans..just because people are bashing this whole Viking crush on Favre does not make them a Packer fan. This whole thing is a NATIONAL joke…and I for one will NOT be watching the hoopla and ad nauseum of a Monday night Packer -Viking tilt..all stupid hoopla and no substance..I would bet most FOOTBALL fans agree with me. Record setting Monday night game? Doubt it. Most people are sick of this diva drama…and no one cares ..it’ll take more than Cher/Favre to pique our interests.
Cmon ColdFromundra, you know the Packers front office isnt that smart. Your just hatin because your beloved QB has come to his senses and wants to play for a real team. Get over it.
here is to all the whiny ass idiots out there. All you inbreeders have in Green Bay is football. The people with the high school educations sit back and say nothing. The rest of you morons with your 2nd grade I.Q.’s can’t stand the thought of Favre playing for the Vikings even tho your idiot GM wanted him gone since the day he drafted Aaron ( shut yer mouths and get on board) Rodgers. So do like ar says and shut up and take yer 2 ass whippings like the fools you were when you bought into TT’s reasoning for cutting Favre after all he did for the organization. I don’t give a crap if he waits until the day before training camp starts to make his decision. He has earned it. TT screwed us, you fools bought into it and now the fickle finger of fate is about to be stuck in your faces by BF. Own up to it and move on.
I hope he comes back. I hope he is on NBC as soon as possible, and then……………..I hope he gets his bell rung like never before.
I am done with the Brett. Enough already
Favre fans are the most myopic cretins on the planet.
1) First of all, football is a TEAM sport. Brett Favre doesn’t win games unless the other guys on offense, defense, and special teams do their jobs. So stop stop trying to credit Favre with the Jets’ win total and stop trying to blame Rodgers for the Packers’ win total. Rodgers outplayed favre lats season on just about every level. It’s not even debatable.
2) Second of all, i’d be willing to bet that at least 90% of the “Favre haters” posting here (or anywhere else) aren’t even Packers fans, but rather, just football fans with non-biased opinions who aren’t blinded by allegiance for the Vikes or Packers. Anybody with a shred of common sense and half a brain can see the guy for the shitbag he is. We can also see that he’s thrown at least as many INT’s as TD’s for 3 of the last 4 seasons and that he hasn’t won jack shit in over a decade.
3) Thirdly, of course Favre doesn’t want “to endure the toil of camp”. Lord Favre thinks he should have a shaded recliner on the sidelines in addition to his own segregated water fountain restroom, and of course…..his own office so he can demonstrate his ” veteran leadership” by dressing in seperate room from his teammates.
4) I’m a Steelers fan, and i’m looking forward to watching my team abuse the Vikes in October. Favre probably won’t survive the encounter.
ENJOY YOUR SLOPPY 3RDS QUEEN FANS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOBODY ON THE QUEENS EVEN WANTS HIM TO PLAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When there’s this much hate and animosity directed towards one player and organization that player and that organization must be doing something right. I sense a lot of jealousy coming from a lot of you girls. “Males shouldn’t be jealous thats a female trait”- Jay z. Stop bitching about Favre and making these predictions that Favre will tank. Are you all psychics or are you all whinny bitches trying to exact some internet revenge on fans of the team and player that have had the most pre-season buzz? I believe it’s the later. How emotional you douchbags get over Favre and the Viking’s is hilarious.
All you bush whackers in green bay: i can smell you from the minneapolis what with your cheese breath and body odor ridden orange camo. Time to accept the fact that G.B. has an uphill battle to even come close to competeing for the north title. New defense, average RB (who didnt look quite as good without #4 did he?) and lets face it no QB can do it alone that was proven last year rodgers had a great year but only 6 wins. All favre has to do is throw about 20 passes a game and stay away from the pick 6.. If favre has more tds than ints this year puprle easily win 12. Without him we still are a 10 win club with current roster as we proved last year. What has the pack proven recently besides proving they have an old stubborn SOB of an owner and a poor D? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
The Viking franchise has a rich history of disappointment. 0-4 in Superbowls and losing the NFC champioship game at home after a 15-1 regular season when your field goal kicker misses his 1st one all season in the 4th Qtr, geez, can it possibly get any better than that?
The sad answer is Yes, sign a Packer castoff and try to act like he is the answer. He might be the answer if the question is, “What NFL QB leads in the all time INT category?”
No matter how good the Vikings look on paper, championships are never played on paper. The Vikings still have a suspect secondary, don’t have a WR with more than 50 catches and Childress is still the head coach. Now throw in QB who has consistently played poorly in the playoffs and tell me again why this is such a great move?

Why is it that Vikings fans always end up coming off more retarded when they’re trying to beat their chest and do their annual offseason “we’re paper champions” routine???
Old owner? There is no single owner you dumb*ss! I’m an owner, are you saying that I’m old and stubborn???
The “average running back” had a bad hammy all season and still was able to put up 1200yds good for 10th in the league.
Half the defensive starters were injured last season. How would your Vikings look if they lost 2 starting D-Linemen, safety, middle linebacker, cornerback and had another starting linebacker playing with multiple injuries?
All Favre has to do is throw 20 passes a game? Newsflash….Ahman Green’s two best seasons are still better than both of Peterson’s AND he actually provided receptions and yards out of the backfield.

This is the funniest post I have read! This guy knows nothing about football or the Packers! Old stubborn owner? You thinkin’ of the
Lions perhaps? ROTFL
HOV QB? Do you mean after getting crushed by Raji, A.J.,Pickett,Kampman,etc he’ll stumble back to the trainer(on the wrong sideline) and mumble to Pepper Buress Hand Over VICODIN
For your information most vikings fan i know hated the packers not favre….any body who enjoys watching football has to respect a guy who’s running around the field like toddler with a toy after a touchdown…running down the field putting players on their back…f*ck the packers…i respect hall of famers…something you b*tch *ss ted thompson fans have forgot…if brett still had his way he’d be in green bay….now hes not…now hes about to be on a very f*ckin dangerous team that one the division last year without him…and while we are being called just that…you packer b*tches are barely being considered a sleeper team maybe….damn it feels good to be a gangsta…i mean a vikings fan…..
First you had Jesse “the body” Ventura, then you elected Al “whackjob” Franken and now you bring in Brett “hey look at me!” Favre.
There has got to be something in the water up there in Minnesota.
Any chance we can cede them to Canada?
QB is not my vikes biggest problem, that would be our special ed. er;ah; special teams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Swiss Cheese anyone

I’m pretty sure every Viking/Favre hater in here has never gotten rich predicting the future!
I’ll just keep saying what I’ve been saying all along, “SAVE IT FOR GAME TIME AND BRING IT!”
@Vikingnut
Ahman Green does suck now. Sure. His body broke down because he never avoided contact and always looked to deliver a blow when he was running. Sound familiar? But how quickly we forget that he went to 4 consecutive Pro Bowls and during that time had more yards from scrimmage than any player in the game. Marshall Faulk was also playing then. The point is, Favre is a hell of a lot older now and his skills have certainly diminished since he was in his prime. Green’s 2 best seasons were still better than Peterson’s and Favre still couldn’t pull out another Super Bowl.
Just think….people will talk about how Peterson sucks in about 4 years after he breaks down just like Green and becomes a pedestrian RB…..if he makes it that long. He’s already proven to be much less durable going back to college.
Perhaps playing home games on grass in LA will help extend his career though….if he signs an extension to stay with the Queen’s which is probably unlikely.
….damn it feels good to be a gangsta…i mean a vikings fan…..
Thata boy Legend. Spoken like a true “gansta” from Rochester, MN. Lame.
I’m curious…if the Packers defense was so friggin’ vaunted and done in only by injuries, why did they dump their D-coordinator and completely overhaul their scheme? It sounds like they were on the brink of making people forget about the Steelers, Ravens, etc.
I can only shake my head at the lemming-like Vikings fans…following Brett off the cliff…with smiles on their faces. Pathetic. All he wants is the all-time NFL consecutive start record, not fame, not money, not revenge. Brett will always be remembered as a Packer great, and he will go into the HOF as a Packer. But we (Packer fans) have seen him play the least several years…and you guys have not. We know what you are getting. You do not. Thank you for taking him. Thank you very much. Your team used to be a threat.
After this article was posted the following exchange was witnessed between Brett and a Packer fan vacationing in Hattiesburg:
Fan: Brett, why do you want to play for the Vikings? Is it to exact revenge on Ted Thompson?
Brett: You want an answer?
Fan: I think I’m entitled.
Brett: (Louder) You want an answer?
Fan: I want the truth!
Brett: You can’t handle the truth! I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Aaron Rodgers and curse the Vikings; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that the Viking’s play, while tragic, probably saved my career and that Ted Thompson’s handling of my retirement, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saved my career. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties you want me on that field, you need me on that field. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend our legacy. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of Packer success I provided and then questions the manner in which I provided it. I would rather you just said “thank you,” and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a football and get under center. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
My right ankle gets sore when Brett Favre news is about to break and I am walking with quite a limp today so I predict he will be a Viking by 6:00 PM July 23, 2009.
Now that is news!
