Sporting News chairman, CEO Ray Shaw passes

We need to pause for a moment to mention that Ray Shaw, the Chairman and CEO of Sporting News, died Sunday from complications following a bee sting.

Mr. Shaw was 75.

He also served as Chairman and CEO of American City Business Journals, the parent company of Sporting News.

Mr. Shaw previously worked as president of Dow Jones & Co., which published the Wall Street Journal.

ACBJ also publishes SportsBusiness Journal, SportsBusiness Daily, NASCAR Scene, NASCAR Illustrated, Inside Lacrosse, 40 local business weeklies, and other properties.

We’ve had a relationship with Sporting News for nearly two years now, and though we never worked directly with Mr. Shaw, he and his son, Whitney, have rejuvenated one of the oldest and most recognized brands in sports media, and they have compiled a great team of editors, writers, and business people to assist in their efforts.

Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Shaw’s family, friends, and all of his colleagues at Sporting News and the various other ACBJ publications.
