Utah quarterback Brian Johnson signs with UFL's New York franchise

Former University of Utah quarterback Brian Johnson has signed with the United Football League’s New York franchise, according to his agent.

Agent David Canter announced that Johnson was joining the unnamed UFL team on his Twitter account a few minutes ago.

Johnson led the Utes to a 13-0 season last year, and Utah defeated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

The 22-year-old Texas native is featured on the cover of the NCAA Football 10 EA Sports video game.

“It’s a chance to keep playing football,” Johnson said during the UFL tryouts. “You have to take every opportunity you can get. You have to keep knocking on doors. You have to show them you can compete, that you have the physical tools they want.”

    This is kinda bittersweet.
Brian Johnson had a stellar season and ripped my team apart in the Sugar Bowl.. so part of me says “Good. Utah was the best team last year my ASS!”
But the other part of me thinks that he’s a talented player who deserves a shot in the NFL. Good luck to him.

    Hmmm, this could work.

The funny part of the UFL is what’s gonna happen to the NFL free agents during the lockout. How many of them are gonna try to play in the UFL during that time?

How do these UFL teams not have names yet??

That’s a sweet $250 commission for his agent.

I actually got a chance to see Johnson play against Louisville his junior year. To me, he looked better than Brian Brohm. I wish Johnson the best.

Abe, if the NFL and the players are fighting over money you won’t see the players come to the UFL to risk injury for less money than their bank account makes accumulating interest.
I have always like Johnson. He showed last year that his team could beat anyone and maybe got us a step closer to a playoff. Best of luck to him.

I can’t believe he didn’t get an invite yonany training camps. Utah was the best team last year. They proved by pounding Alabama and that’s why there should be playoffs, so Utah could get the chance on e again to play for the national championship. Utah would have won it all in 2004 when urban meyer was coaching this team. That team was scary.. Meyer should have 3 national championships.

i’m very glad to hear this. i, like many others, was hoping to see Johnson get a chance somewhere. this is where the UFL is excelling. this is also going to build interest in the UFL.

WOW, probably not. Bama was missing Andre Smith (the most important player on their offense) and only had two offensive linemen playing in their regular positions. They got outcoached for one quarter. 9/10 times, Bama would have won that game.
And if you think Utah could have beaten either Florida or Oklahoma, you’re clearly dreaming.

Aaron, what cover are you talking about? The one I’m looking at has a Red Raider on the cover, not a Ute.

The covers are regional. He’s featured on one of the covers along with several other players.
