Broncos sign Mr. Quinn, blocking tight end

The Broncos reached a contract agreement with second round selection Richard Quinn, one of the new regime’s most surprising draft picks.

Quinn was taken 64th overall, the last pick of the second round. Denver traded two third-round picks (79 and 84) to move up for Quinn, a player that was not expected to be drafted particularly early. They also received the No. 132 pick back in the deal.

Quinn had only 12 catches at North Carolina, but is known as a punishing blocker. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels likes to use two tight end sets and Quinn should help in the running game eventually.

Quinn will learn from Daniel Graham, one of the best blocking tight ends in football.

For Quinn to live up to his draft status, he’ll have to take Graham’s job within a few years.
