The NFL will be joining with Major League Baseball, the NBA, the NHL, and the NCAA in filing a federal lawsuit against the state of Delaware that will attack its new law allowing single-game betting on professional and collegiate sporting events, Mike Florio is reporting.
The suit is expected to be officially filed in the next several days, according to an NFL source.
The suit will attempt to enforce a 1992 federal law that prohibits the expansion of sports betting.
Mike Florio will be weighing in on the upcoming litigation with further details later tonight.
Oh yeah!!
“Mike Florio will be weighing in on the upcoming litigation with further details later tonight.”
will that be after he is done with checking his weekly allotment of scratchers to see if he won anything?
Will the Interstate Dogfighting Gambling Association be joing in this lawsuit as well?
I don’t understand, why is is such a big deal? Vegas has betting. Why not sue them too, or is Vegas supposed to have a monopoly?
we bet on horse racing, dog racing,we have casino’s,why not other sports like football, baseball, cause they may not make monies off it.boo-hoo for them.
I await with baited breath…
Am I the only one that finds this storyline almost as boring as the Sprint plugs?
States rights , they’ll lose.
Great Hypocrisy will try their holier than thou hand. They are expanding the draft for the fans.
NFL owners greed quotient has superceded Goldman Sachs!!!
“is Vegas supposed to have a monopoly?”
Bingo. The same class of bigwigs that own sports teams and leagues own Vegas. Not the same exact guys because they have to keep the pretense of clean leagues, but the rich wolves all run in the same packs. They golf and vacation in the same spots. They own stock in the same corporations. And they all try to screw the small states like Delaware in unison.
i want the sports books in Florida as well it makes no since that i can bet on horses, dogs, the Florida lottery, blackjack, roulette, slots and as of recently like 10 other states we have the power ball as well. And yes we waist our money on scratch off’s as well.
If it makes dollars it makes since. taxing more income leads to faster economy stimulation and most of the people betting on these things have disposable income so let them dispose of it to education, roads and bolstering politicians pockets.

Was that a weird typo….or did you mean to say that?
Is Delaware still a state? We should trade that for Cuba.
“Major League Baseball, the NBA, the NHL,”
for 2 that i watch both mlb and nhl the 2 hypocrites have advertising for the games by casinos.
hockey right on the boards on the ice. both on tv. but baseball is the biggest hypocrite in the world as they rule off rose for as a manager allegedly betting on outside games. but when mlb themself owned and operated the montreal expos of the natianal league their MAIN radio sponsor was golden palace casino and on outfield fences golden palace casino ads were present for all games. and golden palace was owned but a casino group that also had sports betting websites. but hockey is worse. in nba the maloofs are casino owners and own sacremento. ill look up some hockey hypocrisy if i can find it.
Saw an ad on ESPN channel for fans to play poker against NHL players on their website. Gary Bettman’s brother Jeffrey Pollack(same mother) is the Vice President of Sports and Entertainment Marketing at Harrah’s Casino and the Commissioner of the World Series of Poker.”
Manager Pete Rose banned for life for alledgedly betting. Bettman ALLOWS Tocchet an admitted and convicted bookmaker/bet taker(from players no less) to be head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning a year later. And when Tocchet took a leave of absense when issue became public, the first thing Tochett did was appear as a contestant on the World Series of Poker of Bettman’s brother.
Van Hellemond was involved in a rare case of a bad call by a referee resulting in a fine. During a game on May 14, 1995, Van Hellemond waved off a goal scored by Joe Sakic of the Quebec Nordiques, calling the play dead due to an apparent injury to New York’s Alexei Kovalev. Kovalev was, in fact, not injured, and the puck had also entered the net before Van Hellemond’s whistle sounded. The Rangers eventually won the game in overtime to take a 3–1 series lead and later won the series in six games. Van Hellemond was fined by the NHL, who cited a “glaring error in judgment,” according to the November 20, 2007 issue of The Hockey News.
Wiki
Van Hellemond remained director of officiating until July 2004 when he resigned following misconduct allegations. Media reports indicated he was accused of approaching members of his officiating staff for personal financial loans to pay gambling debts.
let those hypocrites spout their bs!
Odd how gambling is necessary to these leagues in terms of additional revenues it creates for their sport and yet they want the public to believe they’re against it. I say if Delaware can’t do it then the suit should apply to vegas as well. If that were the case we’d hear crickets regarding this issue.
So its okay for the NFL to ask states to partner with them and do scratch and win lotto tickets which they have already done in Virginia and are working to do in other states. But it is not alright for states to allow sports betting on the NFL?
That’s some double standard for the NFL. It’s okay for them to make money off gambling, but God forebid the states do it themselves.
this is retarded. how can the sports leagues tell a state what to do?
this is a frivolous lawsuit.
