Grand jury convenes in Burress case

NFL_burress1.jpg

Earlier today, Counselor (Retired) Florio noted that the grand jury promised by Manhattan’s district attorney on Plaxico Burress’ felony gun possession case hasn’t produced an indictment.

According to Alicia Maxey Greene, a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, a grand jury has convened regarding the matter.

Greene said that grand jury proceedings are secret.  Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau promised on June 18 that, as soon as the grand jury votes, the media will “be informed.”

Already, noses have been pressed to the ground in an effort to sniff out any preferential treatment for the guy who caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII.

It appeared in June, after another three-month continuance of an early-stage hearing, that the case would continue to languish.  Morgenthau, presumably “responding to cries of ’celebrity justice’ in the gun case” (as the New York Post put it last month), changed course and pledged the case would be heard by a grand jury in July.

And so now we continue to wait.

Plaxico is screwed this time around. If he wouldn’t have been such a vag the first go around, he could have cut himself a sweetheart deal with minimal jail time. And isn’t his wife a lawyer? Serves the idiot right.

He will be found not guilty because he is a celebrity & no one wants to be acting stupidly- Goodell should throw the book at him

    Thank God!
It’s good to know Plax is going to get speedy justice here. No lolly-gagging, no campaigning, just a quick trial.
WTF? Didn’t this happen like a year ago? What has the Manhattan District Attorney’s office been doing? Watching Law & Order? “Ripped from the headlines”. Why wasn’t this done 6 months ago?
And even though I think Plax is guilty, isn’t the guy entitled to some due process in a timely basis?

attention teddy bayer, the reason the process is taking so long is the fact that plax’ lawyer is always asking for continuancies.plax or the lawyer thinks that the longer it goes on the better their chances….i don’t teeenk so.
empty 13.. a little insight into the folks that run new york, they hate handguns.if you lived here and read the newspapers every day your eyes would be opened to the carnage that occurs in the neighborhoods of the the disenfranchised.
i’m sure that if they stick it to plax a great object lesson will come forth.
