Earlier this week, I bemoaned the fact that I couldn’t find a Palm Pre at any of my local Sprint locations.
Our friends at Sprint have taken care of that, sending me a brand new Palm Pre, which I painlessly activated in place of my well-used Palm Treo (and the dents in the screen prove it) over the phone in five minutes.
The Pre is the closest thing I’ve ever seen to a true handheld computer, with a slide-out keypad that is far superior to typing on a touch screen.
It’s also an amazing gadget. Growing up in the 1970s, we envisioned that the not-too-distant future would entail flying cars and robot butlers. I never could have imagined a small, sleek device with so many functions and capabilities.
And I’m not just saying that because Sprint is the official telecommunications partner of PFT.
Or because I said I was having trouble getting a Palm Pre and they promptly sent me one.
Come to think of it, I’m also having trouble finding a Porsche.
Its sick, right? Welcome to the party
I’ve been having a problem getting this fine looking dark headed girl on Univision. Got no idea what she’s saying, but I would still like to have her. Hola.
Sweet looking phone. Makes me almost wish I had Sprint. Almost.
You won’t use, know about, or be able to figure out 99% of all those functions, just like every other cellphone user. The damn things are as unfriendly as can be. I’m happy when I can convince one to make a call that actually lets me hear the person on the other end.
This phone is awesome – a little slow – but still awesome.
Florio – please get me a job with Sprint.
Bravo Mr. Florio (HA, that rhymed)
Good luck on the Porsche.
Jeez Florio, I am officially jealous. It came down to the Pre or Sunday Ticket…it was close, but I went with watching all NFL games and my Instinct.
And Greg B sounds like a blithering idiot. It takes 5 minutes to figure out how to work all the features on a phone, dumbass.
The only thing I like abot Sprint is katherine Zeta Jones and she used to date Simply Red! uggh
… and of course you are going to be so objective about anything having to do with Sprint
Hey Sprint, where the hell is MY Palm Pre? Can’t seem to find one anywhere. I find my cell phone bill with no problem, though.
Still waiting for mine. Not in a huge rush though. The Spint Instinct is doing just fine by me. Buggy as heck, but it does the job.
Still wish the iPhone was available for Sprint though. Who knows, maybe someone from Sprint will read this.
I guess for now I will have to settle with upgrading to the Mini Me of iPhone.
LOL!
I too like the Pre, but my review comes from playing around with my brother’s Pre.
I don’t like the touch screen at times, it’s too sensitive, especially when trying to show someone something on the screen.
The slide out keyboard feels flimsy on one handed use… Feels like it’s going to break off.
The camera is great. Great quality.
Sometimes it feels like it runs too slow when a lot of apps are running a-sync.
Facebook app is really nicely integrated.
The development interface is really easy to use, which will result in a lot of custom apps. I am sure PFT will have one eventually. (if they get off their butt)
Overall it’s a good phone.

Hey Blackglass, that’s not nice. I have 2 university degrees and hate every cellphone that has ever been inflicted upon me. Maybe I need a PhD in cell. But I somehow suspect I’m not alone in hating the usability of the things. If it took you 5 minutes, I suspect you’re using about 1% of what it can theoretically do.
I’m setting the over/under of Greg B’s age at 60. Any takers?
-sent from my Palm Pre
“Come to think of it, I’m also having trouble finding a Porsche.”
If this wasn’t a Sprint commercial, you would have been wishing for a reach around from Pat White.
Greg, you’re a dumbass. I can’t tell you how many old geezers have phones like the Pre and iphone. Both phones are far more useful and user friendly than your dang “flip” phone.
Cellphone fanboys are annoying.
My year-and-a-half old Crackberry is doing just fine, thank you. I don’t feel I need to update to the latest phone every six weeks.
P.S. Why the hell do I need to re-login every damn day? The old site never required login after the first time.
OK Mike, I have a legit question. Maybe you’ll answer it. How do you know typing on a keypad is far superior to typing on a touch screen (what’s your experience with touch screens?)? Because that’s a bold statement for an objective journalist to make without prior extensive comparison.
Hey Florio, NFL Mobile came out for the Pre today as well. That should be news!
Florio,
I have the Porsche.
I don’t have the Pre.
I won’t trade.
Whatever Florio. iPhones are in a league of their own. Touch screen typing kicks ass when Apple does it.
