The Jets and Leon Washington hope to resolve their long-simmering contract talks by Friday, according to the New York Daily News.
The ball is reportedly in the team’s court. Washington is looking for roughly $6 million per season, a hefty sum for a part-time running back and return man.
Washington’s representative, Alvin Keels, will surely point out that few players are better at either role. Keels has been quiet about the Washington discussions on his Twitter page recently.
While progress looks imminent for Washington, the same isn’t expected to be true for Thomas Jones. Jones wants a contract upgrade, but looks unlikely to get one.
The local media and Ryan have both said they expect both running backs to show up to training camp on time.
At least Alvin Keels is doing something. We all know he’s not working on Andre Smith’s contract.
