Raiders agree to terms with Mitchell

One of the most highly scrutinized picks of the 2009 draft has agreed to terms on his rookie contract.

Safety Michael Mitchell, a second-round pick, will sign a four-year deal with the Raiders, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Mitchell was one of the most surprising first day draft picks in years, flummoxing draft analysts like Mike Mayock who thought Mitchell might not get drafted at all.

Since being selected, we’ve been impressed with Mitchell’s attitude toward the criticism, not to mention the highlight reels of his career that have circulated.

Many believe that Mitchell has an excellent chance to start as a rookie at strong safety.

He should have the opportunity to prove his critics wrong right away, while a bust of Raiders draft pasts, Michael Huff, watches from the sideline.

UPDATE: PFT’s Aaron Wilson is reporting that Michael Mitchell’s four-year contract includes a $1.6 million signing bonus and guaranteed money of nearly $2.03 million, according to a league source.

Florio…I’m looking over your posts, and I notice a distinct pattern…Any post that may have a iota of Lord Favre news…get’s dramatically more response than any other….In your quest for unique views, may I suggest If you don’t have Super Favre news…Make it look like you do in the subject!…Knowing YOU are a Attorney…I KNOW you will have NO problem twisting the words around to do just that!

Should be interesting to see what Mitchell and Branch can bring to the safety position. Both are young, fast and can deliver a hit.
    Well in college anyway.

Greg- I’m shocked someone at PFT would take the time from Lord Favre, Vick and Big Ben stories to actually do some background work on a player. And to actually write something positive about a controversial draft pick, and from the Radiers yet, amazing.

Ok… Now that they have gotten that out of the way. They can work on getting some grass for that infield.
Florio… I am posting a challenge to you. With the modern tech that we have in this world (see palm pre) why can’t the Raiders find a way to cover up that infield dirt on Sundays. I know I joke about it a lot (and I do, frankly because it is a joke) but with NFL football becoming a world wide event, don’t they need to present it in a way that wouldn’t have the watcher wondering for 3 hours if they were watching football, or baseball in pads?
My challenge to you is to find out if something exsists to cover the infield, and if it does exsist why haven’t the Raiders used it?
You can also ignore this post altogher and I can just keep bitching.

Welcome, to the Raider Nation Mike. Can’t wait to see you prove the mediot talking heads wrong, and to see you delivering some snot-bubbling hits.

The ultimate sign of a good pick is if that pick becomes a starter within three years of drafting. IMO, any pick in the first two rounds that does not become a starter in that time is a bust because you overpaid for them.
That is why Gallery is not a bust IMO. Sure, he didn’t pan out as a LT but he did become a starter. The reason Kiper called him a safe pick is that the odds were almost 100% that he’d become a starter somewhere on the line even if not at LT.

This draft pick stuff is soo over rated. Mike Mitchell wasnt suppost to get drafted.. according to mayock. But Michael Huff was suppost to be the closest thing to Ed Reed back in 2006 draft. Goes to show that you just need to roll the dice and take a chance regardless of what people’s opinions are going to be… Sure you go with the safest pick and need but all you really need is to be in the right system.. as far as Mr. Davis and all the criticism he got in aprils draft, He is damn if he does and damn if he doesnt.. good thing is, he really doesnt give a S#!t what anyone says…
