The Cowboys had no first-round or second-round picks in the 2009 draft.
And they now won’t have the benefit of one of their third-round selections.
According to Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News, tackle Robert Brewster will miss the season with a torn pectoral muscle that he suffered during offseason workouts.
“I can’t even tell you how disappointed he is,” agent Cliff Brady told Archer. “The only thing that might be OK about it is that O-linemen generally don’t play a lot that first year anyway. If he can be around and learn, that may be helpful. He may not miss too too much, especially since he’ll be working out. I’m trying to keep him positive, ‘Look, let’s just take this year to work on you and your body and learn the system. You can miss a lot or as little as possible depending on how smart you are.’ He’s a smart kid. He just wants to play so bad.”
Brewster is unsigned. Pursuant to the standard letter of protection signed prior to participating in offseason workouts, Brewster likely will receive a deal commensurate with his slot in the draft.
The former Ball State lineman was the eleventh pick in round three, between 49ers running back Glen Coffee and Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy.
