In early May, Rick Schwartz of Yahoo! Sports created a major stir by reporting that quarterback Brett Favre called Vikings coach Brad Childress and said that the long-time signal-caller would stay retired.
Schwartz, as it turns out, is a man ahead of his time.
According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Favre called Childress and said that the long-time signal-caller will stay retired.
The daily physical and mental grind was cited as part of the reason for the decision.
“I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame
quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division,”
Childress told Zulgad. “He knows our system inside out. . . . This doesn’t change
anything about how I feel about our football team.”
And so it’s back to Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.
Unless the Vikings do the really smart thing and pursue Mike Vick.
Let’s go Sage or Tarvaris!
Good f***ing riddance.
Wow, that’s a relief. Now I’m down to deciding between Mike Vick and Jeff George for my fantasy QB.
Could Florio get his wish and have the Favre/Vick storylines combine to create a super-breed of mundane stories?
Will it stop him if the Vikings don’t pursue Vick?
Stay tuned…
All that for this?
I will believe it when Favre is dead.
wow, i wonder what the first qb’s meeting is gonna be like
If this is true it is good. Now Tavaris needs to step and prove Childress wrong and show that he can do the job. Now is not the time to be whining that he tried to replace you.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Put it your papers now, Childress…
wow, wonder how the first qb’s meeting is gonna be???
Vick, Peterson, Harvin…..
getcha’ popcorn ready. it’s gonna be a show.
I’ll believe it when January 2010 rolls around and Favre is still in Mississippi.
beating espn again… good job florio!
And there is the end of the Brad Childress era. He’ll be gone after this season.
Farve’s a tool.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I really needed that laugh as a Packer fan. The best part is I saw some tool with a Brett Favre Vikings jersey last night! God that was priceless.
Yadda Yadda Yadda…
We’ve seen this load of crap from Favre before. He will say he is retired and then feel the itch to play again. The itch will conveniently come at…get this…the end of training camp. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if it turned out to be like this.
Way to suck at life Favre.
Good thing I haven’t been promoting this for a whole FN year. rrrrrg
Waffling douche bag!
I’m not surprised. He is such an image guy and he wants the people in Green Bay to love him and when they retire his number he will be loved. I blame the Viking management for not pulling the plug on this a long time ago.
“Brad Childress, there’s a call for you from a Mr. Jeff George. Something about a tryout.”
Bert favre you can rot in mississippi. dont ever show your face in minnesota again.
Why do we hate Sage Rosenfels again? Dude was pretty good last season for the Texans and has been with the team since the first OTAs. Vick was never very good at the WCO and hasn’t played in 2 years.
Sounds like you’re supporting him based on name-recognition — which is fine — we all do it to some extent. Just don’t criticize when Dan Snyder does it, too.
I used to think you were a decent guy, Florio, but to advocate anyone signing Vick really shows your true colors. Really despicable.
Finally. i dont ever want to hear that turd’s name again
It’s amazing how all of a sudden Vick was a great QB…. I remember Florio criticizing him pretty heavy and the Falcons for putting all the blame on the WRs.
He wasn’t a good passer in ATL, he couldn’t stay healty in ATL, and his legs are 2 years older.
The only thing worse for the Dikequeens (and that means, more fitting) than Bratt?
Yep, scumbag Ick.
I guess having one bad (but over-rated) passer who can’t learn the playbook and makes bad decisions with the ball (but who can run fast!) is not enough for the Queens.
Go get ‘em, Vikes!
AAaaaaaaaaaaa…. Hahahahahahaaaahhhahahaa! LOOOOO-SEEEEERRRRRRRR.
Finally the idioacy ends.
Uh oh Florio…
Do I sense an end to Favre stories as we know them???
::tear::
From one Vikings fan….
THANK. GOD.
Just promise to stay retired and we’re all good.
“Unless the Vikings do the really smart thing and pursue Mike Vick”
Not that’s more ridiculous than the whole Favre thingy.
AWWWWW-KWARD……
SKOAL LOSERS WHO GET JERKED AROUND FOR 3 MONTHS.
Hahahah.
Mike, I think you called it. A couple weeks back you said Favre can’t think 15 minutes into the future and usually does the unexpected and suggested that at this point, Favre staying retired would be the unexpected. Welp, Favre did the unexpected, strung millions of people a long for three months an then said, nah, never mind.
Good luck with your jack shit QB’s and non-existent receiving core.
…….and intoducing……Mike Vick!!!
First, how come “Judd” didn’t write the article for the Tribune. Chaz Scoggins writes that Judd talked to Childress. What?
Second, Favre-Mania won’t die. Even if Favre said he’s not going to play just wait for the Vikings to suck or have a QB go down with an injury and Favre will be a phone call away and will step on the field in Week 7 like he’s superman.
Either way, this isn’t the end.
Thank god.
YES!!!!! This is exactly what I wanted to hear. No more stories about this bum “and how he can save the vikings”.
Now we can enjoy real NFL stories.
IF Vick is really in shape and can still run . . .
Rosenfels under center with Vick and Peterson in a two-back set with Harvin in motion out of the slot is gonna have opposing defenses crapping their pants.
First, until I hear it from Favre, I won’t believe it.
Second, the earlier post about T-Jax stepping up is dead on. T-Jax/Sage, get it going and prove to the coach that you can get it done…Obviously he thought otherwise.
Third, why not try out Jeff George?
Hilarious….
It was probably J. Allen mentioning that he “only sent him one text, and I thought it was personal”. Favre is full of himself and it just hit him that there is lot or players more important than him in MN and he could never handle that.
Hopefuly he stays quiet and is remembered for his play not this other crap.
I called this way back when; I knew he’d drag it out for attention and then let everyone (everyone who loves train wrecks) down.
hahahahahahahaha
It pains me to say this but you may be better off in Minny without this idiot. Good luck Sagevaris Jackenfels
Thank the good lord, can we never mention him again?
Vikings are better off. Their bigger problem is these Williams suspensions.
poor Childress ha ha ha
Rosenfels all but self destructed in the big games and or under pressure last year. I think it was against the Colts that he absolutely blew in the waning minutes of the game they essentially had wrapped up. Though I would still take him or Gary Coleman for that matter over Vick…. Vick is essentially a running back who can complete a little over 50% of his passes.
Favre has held many fans hostage from enjoying the NFL due to his indecisiveness. I hope that he finally settles on this decision once and for all so we can all go back to enjoying not only our teams (yes I am a Viking fan) but also the NFL as a whole.
Please sign Vick. Please. Pretty Please?
Goodbye Chilly & that KICK ASS offense. damn i wish Denny was back in Minnesota right about now.
“I will believe it when Favre is dead.”
Have you ever seen Weekend at Bernie’s?
Can we be done with Favre un-retirement stories yet and simply move on?
But how is it possible Florio? You told us he was already signed; that Jerseys were being printed. You parsed have phrase Favre spoke like a carnie on the midway to divine that Favre was already in purple. He already bought a house in the twin cities. Say it ain’t so Mike, say it ain’t so.
All you Vikes fans who bashed your QB’s and salivated over Old Man Favre had better hope “T-jack” fails, because if he’s successful you don’t get to participate in the celebration. You already hitched your train to Favre and there are no take-backs or do-overs.
As for Old Man Favre, i’l believe it when the season starts and he’s not on a roster.
As for Vick, I think it would be a great move by the Vikes. They could work some Wildcat magic with Vick, Peterson, Harvin, and Berrian.
What a sad day for NFL football fans. The NFL is a much more interesting sport with an unretired Favre.
I’m holding out hope that this is another erroneous report.
Wonder what all the Viking fans who were punching their ticket to the Superbowl before the season even started have to say now?
Brad, budy ole’ pal. You Are Fired.
I remember Adrian Peterson saying that he wants to pass the ball this season. And Percy Harvin is a big slash player.
If they signed Vick…
I can only guarantee one thing: Excitement.
But personally, I would like to see Tarvaris Jackson get a shot.
“First, until I hear it from Favre, I won’t believe it.
You won’t hear from him directly. The guy doesn’t say anything for himself and therefore leaves himself the ability to consistently change his mind….it’s been like that for 6 years now.
This is the best thing that could have happened for the Vikings. It would have been bad for everyone watching him throw pick after pick against Green Bay.
Enjoy your lawn Favre. You earned it.

Vick, Peterson, Harvin…..
getcha’ popcorn ready. it’s gonna be a show.
——————————–
Not a good show, though.. Vick and Peterson could compete for the team (and league) lead in fumbles. And Vick would probably break the all time record for bounce passes.
Harvin’s quick, right? Vick doesn’t like those small quick targets. He likes the big lumbering ones.
Good! Never mention his name again. Ever!
just dont compound it by making another bad decision and going after ookie.

——————————-
Um… No. But I’ll agree that he’s the best shot they have right now.
Until the season begins, and maybe even a little after, this isn’t over. But if this is the way it turns out then I guess Bob_Nelson was right all along.
Childress wanted to get a head start on his season so he didn’t even wait until training camp to throw his players under the bus. Both QB’s, under the bus before they got out of OTA’s.
Here is the best part, QB play is always influenced by the coach’s confidence in his hand picked starter, thus the cliche that in the NFL, if you have two QB’s, you really have none. Truth be told, the Biqueens had none to begin the season with but by courting Favre, Col Klink really dug himself a hole.
Good luck winning the division again, the train has already derailed and it hasn’t even left the station.
At this moment I will never watch football again-it won’t be the same-. Farve needed some antideppresants or something and now I need them.
Brett anyone loves watching you no matter what they say, and no matter what team you’re on. We’ll always love you.
I wonder what all those people that dished out 300 bucks for the Packers-Vikings tickets (at either venue) will get for them NOW ????
60-70 bucks ?????
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Why do ANY of you want to see Vick in Minnesota?
He’s a horrible QB. Does NOBODY remember his passing stats? Of course not. Everyone just thinks about him rushing for 40 yards and thinks he’s a football God.
Randall Cunningham did it better. And Randall wasn’t a total douchebag either.
I have been saying for months that the deal would not happen.
Some of you people scoffed at the mere suggestion because Florio kept saying it was a sure thing that Brett Favre would sign with the vikings.
Ignored was Brett Favre’s pride that he would not stoop so low to join the vikings.
Ignored was the vikings tradition and capacity to screw things up and shrink whenever performance matters.
Brett now is waiting for interest from a real team.
