McGahee in "fighting shape" as camp starts

The Ravens kicked off training camp Tuesday morning, although not all their key players are quite ready to practice.

Our own Aaron Wilson reports from Baltimore that Willis McGahee, Marshall Yanda, Ben Grubbs, and Yamon Figurs were placed on active/physically unable to perform list to start camp.

The designation isn’t a huge deal. Players can come off the list at any time and McGahee is expected to be ready to practice in a few days.

“I’m in fighting shape,” McGahee said.

Mr. Wilson confirmed as much, saying McGahee appeared to be in great condition.

That hasn’t always been the case for the former Bills running back, who has faced questions about his conditioning throughout his career.

McGahee may have seen the writing on the wall during OTAs when Ray Rice ran with the first-team ahead of him.  It’s possible McGahee wouldn’t even still be on the team if he wasn’t so expensive to release.

If McGahee can prove fully healthy and motivated, he and Rice would likely share the majority of Baltimore’s carries, with fullback Le’Ron McClain taking short-yardage duties.

UPDATE: The Ravens also placed the following players on the PUP list: tight end Davon Drew (didn’t pass conditioning test), cornerback Samari Rolle (shoulder/groin), offensive tackles Adam Terry (knee), Joe Reitz (shoulder) and Lou Saucedo, linebacker Jason Phillips (knee) and defensive tackle Lamar Divens.

    Wilson checked ‘em out, eh?
Gave ‘im the old once over?
    The old “elevator eyes”?
Seriously, Ravens are gonna need those 3 backs, seeing as how they won’t have anyone to throw to (certainly not Todd “Heap of Injured Sh1t”).
That running attack could be dangerous, given some passing threat to balance it a bit.

Why is McGahee on the physically unable to perform list then? Just farts and giggles?

I love how he is in shape now… It took a 2nd year guy working his ass off and taking his starting job to motivate this clown. Adiós willis, too little, too late.
