Brewster – Well, sorta glad and sorta sad I’m not the only one. Honestly, signing with NBC did 2 things for this site. Lined Florio’s pocket (which I can respect, honestly), and lowered the quality of the site, now requiring NBC’s damned scripts for most people that don’t know how to block them…
Ray Guy – The only reason Heyward-Bay would smoke a DB in this league is because he’s running away in fear with his diminutive size…

It’s not just DHB, it’s every pick that gets more because of their slot than the last year’s pick at the same slot.
Jason Smith just signed with St Louis and his contract is bigger than last year’s number 1 pick Jake Long.
The system is screwed. They need to make this an NBA type rookie pay scale.
Don’t fault DHB or others for signing their big checks and guaranteed money. It’s the system and they aren’t complaining.

They probably had to negotiate that with DHB’s agent since nobody else is signed to get him in to training camp and I know the DHB wanted that to happen. “The total max value, if Heyward-Bey hits every last incentive, would be $54 million.” which I am assuming means that he would have to play better then Jennings to get the max contract. Yeah the guaranteed is a bit high, but I am just happy that he wont miss anymore camp. DHB is a class guy and I think you will see that he can handle the pressure, but give him till the end of the season to shine, and a year to see if he’s worth it.

Periodically, hell how about every time I enter the site.
I’ve enjoyed this site in the past but the change to NBC has changed the feel of the site and the ease of use.
There is no good reason the site functionality is worse since the changeover than in the “Hamster” days.
Fix the damn thing Florio and for about the tenth time that I and others have requested it, how about bringing back the comment ratings feature or advise us why it has been discontinued.
This will most likely not pass the censors.
As soon as I hit the submit button I’m going to get an error message that I am not logged on and need to be a registered user to post comments.

Think of the implications of this rise in salary, even in these hard financial times, a player just out of college gets 20% more than the guy drafted in the same spot the year before, imagine five years from now, the number 7 guy gets probably double Sedrick Ellis’.. Its whack..
And Im a Raidersfan and I think its insane..
Are DHB and Crabtree’s agent the same? ’cause this is one way for him to get his client at no 10 to get 2008 top 5 money :p

Wow, that’s a lot coin. I am one who wished for a lineman but had no problem with the DHB pick over the other top receivers. He fit the scheme far better than Crabtrash. Just wish it wasn’t so high, because the Raiders really did need help with the line on both sides of the ball. Still, that’s a lot of cash. He better put up, and shut up his critics by his second season, or else.

Of course Keels broke it. He’s the agent for Andre Smith, who’s now sitting at #6 unsigned between a QB mega-contract at #5 and now what appears to be a very generous package for DHB at #7. The sooner the terms get out, the sooner he can start pressuring the Bengals for more money than they were probably looking to offer.

Paying an unproven (in the NFL) player that much money is insane. This is why there needs to be a structured cap on rookie contracts. Allow for the $$ to be spent on veterans who have proven themselves in the NFL. Force rookie primadonas to earn that big paycheck.
