Perhaps no rookie earned more “atta boys” during OTA and minicamp season than Lions safety Louis Delmas.
Now the first pick of the second round of the draft can deliver on that promise after agreeing to terms with Detroit on a new contract.
Delmas was compared to Dale Carter by Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham and reportedly mastered the team’s playbook in no time. (Cunningham was surely referring to Carter’s on-field prowess, not his off-field troubles.)
The Western Michigan product will use his smarts to roam the the back end of Cunningham’s defense and try to make plays on the ball.
Delmas is fully expected to start in Week One for the Lions.
