Raiders release Andrew Walter

On a day when Oakland’s starting quarterback admitted he was a little heavy, the Raiders decided to get lighter at the position.

Andrew Walter was let go Thursday after four unremarkable seasons.  A third-round pick in 2005, Walter threw three touchdowns to go with 16 interceptions during his run.

In fairness to Walter, the guy probably never had a chance.

He started eight games during the miserable Art Shell revival year.  That team had one of the worst offensive lines in recent memory and Walter was buried under an avalanche of sacks.

The Raiders tried to trade Walter, but they unsurprisingly found no takers.

The Vikings could use him. Well, sort of…

Must be making room for Vick.

I have a feeling he will be taking over Matt Cassell’s spot at New England.

good guy, strong arm, hope he lands on his feet. maybe UFL being coached by Jim Fassell could do him some good. There are worst things in this world than backing up JP Losman.

    Never complained,
even when buried on the depth chart.
    Good luck.

Good arm, smart guy, slow as a log.
He couldn’t move in a pocket at all. Very stationary target.

Until UFL shows up at a Raider home game sporting his Steve Young jersey and his stupid grin, he’s nothing but a little Cutler to me.

i’ve heard that too. except toward the end of his career he forsook the fruity hollywood parties and found religion and lost his desire to be a toy, so to speak.
about the time he couldnt get a-movie starring roles anymore.

Man, some of you are waaay off. Walter was a brat. YEah he took a pounding as the QB of a bad team, but he complained about it a lot and he always had the look of a loser and somebody who was complaining on the sidelines.
Compare that to David Carr. He took a worse beating in Texas, but never really complained and always had class about it.
That is why Davis stuck it to Walter. He was a crybaby.

    LOLOLOL I am dying here.
Is there really a fellow Raider Fan here on PFT with the moniker… “swervinmervin.” ?
Look, I loved “Swevin Mervin Fernandez” as much as the next guy when Al brought him down from Canada, but I would not be using his nick name to register on PFT.
Especially 22 years after he played.
The memories of him being arrested for opening pants and swinging his dick, in front of young girls in hotels is just too much pain for me to re-live.
They Guy had a dick swinging/flasher complex.
That would not be my PFT moniker… Unless of course… I was into that shit?

Well, at least it was entertaining watching him get dog piled 5+ times a game… Would like to see more of that with Russel…

Outstanding arm, questionable decision making, and very, very, immobile.
If gets on a team with a great line he could improve.

I wish Andrew the best, he played in a effed up system the year he started (really effedup), and never really could recover. He was taking 7 step drops and playing behind a line that made it like playing on the freeway back there.
I’m just scared he ends up in DEN and comes back to haunt us. He does have a gun.

Brain overheat with all that exertion? Need more than one post? “Something said, not good.” Sounds like a bog-standard Faider fan.

  31. OldRaiderFanUgg says: Aug 9, 2009 3:38 AM

All considering, I think Walter did a good job. As pointed out, that line was horrible when he played. At times the defense was smothering the QB and RBs right after the snap. But when given half descent protection Walter looked good. For the person that says Walter was a cry baby… I would be yelling also if my line played the way his did. I could have gotten a group of high school linemen that could have done a better job than those jerks. Unfortunately as often happens, it a matter of being in the right place at the right time. The bad thing about is sometimes taking too many hit early on people loose their confidence and don’t progress. NE is looking for insurance so I don’t think he’ll get much of a chance there either. Would have like to see him go to a team where he can truly compete for the starting position. But hey, for the money I wouldn’t mind sitting on the bench either.

  32. OldRaiderFanUgg says: Aug 9, 2009 3:43 AM

Just one more point… it seems NE always pick up Raiders castoffs that come back to haunt them.
