Rams, Smith "very close" to a deal

With CAA first-round client Darrius Heyward-Bey agreeing to terms and another one (Josh Freeman) reportedly close to a deal, we’re told that a third CAA client could soon be under contract.

Per a league source, Rams tackle Jason Smith is “very close” to an agreement with the team.

Smith was the second overall pick in the draft.  The Rams have indicated that Smith likely will start his career at right tackle, with 2005 first-rounder Alex Barron moving over to the left side, where Orlando Pace had been a fixture since 1997.

    Rams are still clueless.
    1. How do you not sign the #2 pick? It’s already slotted.
    2. Moving a rookie left tackle to the right is a recipe for disaster. Better play him at left guard for a year if he’s not ready for LT.
