Wilf denies Vikings interest in Vick

So I get an e-mail a little bit ago telling me that our old friend Chris Myers of FOX Sports Radio has reported during his weekday show that the Vikings are interested in quarterback Mike Vick, and that they’re doing some league-level due diligence regarding whether and to what extent the timetable for his return for regular-season play might be accelerated from Week Six.

So I call the hotline into FSR, and I talk to Chris about it during a break in the show, in an effort to be accurate in our reporting. (Yeah, I’m not feeling well today.)

So as soon as I hang up, Tom Curran calls to say that Myers’ report had made its way to Mankato, where it had morphed into a report that the Vikings would be signing Vick.

Curran says that owner Zygi Wilf was talking with some reporters, and that Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com asked about the FSR report.

Per Curran, Wilf ultimately said, “Do you need a denial? I’m denying it.”

Then again, Wilf said something similar about Brett Favre back in February.

“I would have been interested 15 years ago,” Wilf said. “No, I’m not interested. No way.”

So, basically, it looks like the Vikings will be pursuing Vick. And then he’ll decide to retire.
