As we wait for news on whether (when) receiver Plaxico Burress will be indicted on felony weapons charges in New York City, let’s spin the clock back to January 2008.
But before we do, let’s provide some context. Burress testified two days ago before the grand jury that’s considering whether to force him to stand trial on these charges, and he reportedly admitted to his actions and expressed remorse and (as we interpret it) threw himself on the mercy of the grand jury.
So will his words be convincing? Not if the grand jurors have access to a Burress quote published by Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger from nearly 19 months ago.
Referring to five childhood friends with whom lived earlier this decade, Burress said that they all are dead or in jail for “stupid stuff like armed robbery or carrying a concealed weapon.”
And yet before the end of the same year, Burress engaged in the very same behavior, resulting in the serious mess he now faces.
It really is a sad story, and hopefully others who might be inclined to do the same “stupid stuff” are learning a valuable lesson from Plaxico’s problems.
MIKE SAID: It really is a sad story, and hopefully others who might be inclined to do the same “stupid stuff” are learning a valuable lesson from Plaxico’s problems.
Key word here is stupid and stupid people never learn, its what makes them stupid.
Plaxico is so stupid – no matter how you look at it. Carrying a gun in your sweatpants, without the safety on, is idiotic. Anyone who’s ever owned a gun will tell you that.
If he needed protection, he should’ve hired a security guard. Is hiring a securtiy guard a detriment to his “street credibility”? Now look at him. This guy was setup (whether you want to believe it or not) to make a serious run with the NYG, to solidfy his career as one of the most unique and special talents the game has ever seen. Because he couldn’t grow up from his past and upbringing – he finds himself in the same spot as his childhood friends – a loser, a failure, a f*** up! From a lifelong Giants fan and season ticket holder: Plax, you screwed your team and your fans by being an ignorant thug. I hope you drop the soap and Buba makes you pay for your mistakes!!!
Florio you talk like a privileged yuppie when it comes to guns. Obviously, you do not know the difference between carrying a concealed weapon without a bullet in the chamber compared to one with one in the chamber. Carrying a gun itself concealed or overtly is not the issue, the fact he had a bullet in the chamber is. That is stupid! Thanks for perpetuating cliche and fatuous thinking.
If you are expecting trouble or are a scared little bitch carrying a gun without a chambered round is stupid.
I believe the latter about Plaxico, and if the rumors how he is scared of prison are true it seems that he was afraid all the time about being punked. Hence the gun and now our amusement.
The lessons to be learned are.
1. Don’t carry a gun illegally, have all the paperwork you need in your given state.
2. Carry it with the safety on, and/or don’t have one in the chamber that is an effective safety.
3. Don’t try and be a thug, or as I call it a douche and carry it in your pants, get yourself either a proper holster or a Nerf gun, because if your that dumb that’s about as much as you should have, and you will stop serious injury to anyone.
4. Don’t let your friend take the gun and try and hide it in that situation, because your the moron so man up and don’t drag your buddy down with you. Man up and take the heat.
First off Glock pistols don’t have a manual safety. They are built internally in the gun to prevent discharge if dropped. I know I have three of them. Second, This headline is misleading Florio, There is nothing wrong with Legally exercising your second amendment rights. I do it every day. I have had a carry permit for 10+ years. Third, The idiot shot himself because of the flimsy sweatpants. Nobody with any firearm training or knowledge carries a gun in their sweatpants! Fourth, a gun without a round in the chamber is nothing more then a really short club. There is nothing wrong, from a safety perspective, with keeping a round in the chamber. Dumba$$ plexiglass just needs some firearm training. You guys need to learn more about a subject before spouting off about it.
