SportingNews.com: Favre's career now in the hands of fate

Tom Curran recently compiled an excellent time line that chronicles Brett Favre’s dalliances with retirement, starting all the way back in 2002 when he mentioned for the first time the possibility of calling it quits.

This week, he decided to remain retired, but he left the door open.

So what will bring him back again?  Unable to make a decision, he apparently has put his career in the hands of fate.

I will not wish injury on Sage or TJ no matter the possible payoff.

“I’m just thinking about being on my lawn mower”.
I’d bet my house that Brett Favre hasn’t cut his own grass in 15 years. It’s all part of the image.

Uhmmmm, he made a decision, not to come back.

you would lose you house Captain…
I would really think it impossible to jump into the middle of an NFL season… timing is everything in passing and having not had the practice he would look horrible….
I also think that the ALL TIME… not just QB start streak meant a lot to Favre… only 2 games into the season it would have been his….
it is either a ploy to avoid training camp and give childress time to really see how bad the qb’s they have in camp are…..
    or it is really over…

Does anyone notice that November 1st is the day the Vikings play the Packers in Lambeau? Was that intentional from Mr. Favre?

If you really read between the lines, Favre obviously didn’t want to play for the Vikings behind their patchwork offensive line (terrible pass blockers) and throw to the worst receiving core of his career. He most likely realized that the pounding he would take while trying to wait for a receiver to magically get open wouldn’t allow him to finish the season. He just simply runs out of gas towards the end of a long season.
For those of you who say all he has to do is hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson, Ahman Green’s two best seasons were better than Peterson’s first two seasons so far and I didn’t see any Super Bowl rings.

    Adrian: 1341 yrds, 12tds
    1760, 10
    Ahman: 209 yrds, 1 td
    120 yrds, 0 td
oh yeah, no QB, a supposedly terrible offensive line, and receiving core.
    Nice valid argument cheesy.

ROLF Ahman Green. Thanks for the Laugh. Im to lazy to look up Ahman Green but I highly doubt he ever ran for 1700yds, or even 1400. And whatever he did rush for, he did it with a HOF QB in his PRIME taking pressure off him. AD has rushed for 1500yds and 1700 vs 8 – 9 man fronts his first 2 years. Give him a real QB with a real coach and he will go for 2100. But we will have to wait for Chilly to get fired before we can see that :(
The more I think about it you must be joking, nobody would be dumb enough to compare Ahman Green (rofl) to AD.

    @zygi milf,
You might want to check the numbers because he’s right. Check Green’s stats from 2003 and 2001

    To: Captain Dumbtastik,
I’ll take that bet. When do I get your house ???
What a colossal boob you are.
Please send me the deed to your house, and no you can’t give up your Ma’s house – because that would force you to come up out of the basement. You made a statement, now back it up !

    roflmao…… Ahman Green
It was in his 5th year in the league that he equalled the production of Adrian Pederson’s first two seasons. That being said, we can take a look at his two most productive seasons vs. Adrian’s first two in the league period, but I would caution the stats would be similiar with the intangibles EXTREMELY skewed.
Ahman had the LUXURY of playing with a HOF quarterback in his prime, who had the LUXURY of throwing to a seasoned wide receiver core and solid tight ends.
To date Adrian has faced more 8 and 9 man fronts than anyone EVER has in their first two seasons and quite possibly their careers. He plays with a DEVELOPING quarterback situation, a young and DEVELOPING wide receiver core and a DEVELOPING tight end.
Say whatever you want, but if he stays healthy he can carry the entire team like no other running back has in the history of the game (Apologies Jim Brown). And that is the FACT of the matter.

This post is a great example of how people simply either can’t read, or don’t choose not to.
Re: Zeakman – whatthehellisgoingonoutthere said versus Ahman Green’s 2 best seasons – not first 2 seasons – when Green was a back-up. Learn to read.
Re: Skol Vikings – whatthehell is correct. Green had 1883 yards in 2003 and 1387 in 2001. That’s 3270 which is more than 3101. AG also scored 31 Touchdowns those 2 years too, as compared to AP’s 23. Of course that took like 8 seconds to look up. Perhaps next time you’ll take that 8 seconds to check something out before opening up yer trap and looking like a blithering idiot – oops, too late !
Or maybe as a Queens fan, you just can’t add !!!

    More Olbermann-vision from Florio.
Florio “The end result is that Favre has managed, in less than two years, to supersede his on-field exploits with his off-field meanderings, deliberations, and indecision.”
What a preposterus comment Florio. This might be the dumbest thing you’ve EVER posted on this web site. Two years from now nobody (other than you Florio – with your Olbermann-esqe type obsession of Bill O’Reilly, that you have with Favre) will remember or care about the past 2 months. And him playing with the Jets in 2008 will be but a trivia question 20 years from now.

  19. Fan of Football says: Jul 31, 2009 2:45 PM

How dare Favre be so indecisive. Because all the commenters on here are perfect human beings, why can’t Favre be perfect to?

  20. JimmySmith says: Jul 31, 2009 3:14 PM

Childress pull his pants down once, there is nothing to stop him from doing again.
He looks like a fool, he is desperate, but whatever happens, I want him to coach the Vikings for a long time. So I hope Favre doesn’t come back because its a formula for getting Col Klink fired. And Packer fans don’t want that to happen.

    RE: packfan
Maybe you should listen to your own advice and read the post. I was making a comment about the validity of his post because the only way you CAN compare ahman and AP is to compare the first two years based on sampling statistics and biases. If AP goes his entire career without surpassing Ahman’s totals for his two best years, than yes, the first argument would be sound and he would be right (no matter the situation around them).

  23. Skol Vikes says: Jul 31, 2009 4:51 PM

Ok im sorry, I guess Ahman Green was a better RB than AD will ever be. What was i thinking. 1800yds? seriously? Thats impressive. If AD didnt face 9man fronts he’d go for over 2k easy. But AD doesnt have a HOF qb in his prime to take pressure off him, or a coach with half a brain.

  24. AtTheMurph says: Aug 1, 2009 11:59 AM

No, Ahman Green was a better running back in his two best years than A.P. has been so far. That would be the correct indignity the typical viking fan should agree to. And this assumption that viking fans make that Favre had some sort of great receiving corp in Green Bay, especially in Green’s best years is flat out false. In essence, the receiving corp was Ahman Green as well as he led the team in reception in 2001 and was barely off the team lead in 2003. A.P. is a hell of a player but let’s see if he ever becomes the dual threat Green was in his prime in GB.

Is there any way, in the interest of humanity, that we can NOT read about Bret Favre again?

  26. rollerball says: Aug 3, 2009 11:55 AM

“Hope springs eternal” and all that. Farve holds interest on many levels. Can Father Time actually catch the “Gunslinger?”. Many of of hope not no matter what we say. If he can beat him why not us? Also there is a little of the Rocky story in all of this. Also a little of the Sir Lancelot)?) story. Will he actually ride in to save the day? I don’t believe other than Reggie White there were any GB players that the general public had ever really heard of . It WAS Farve. Anyway , that’s all I will say on him. I love AP and he has got to be wishing Brett will come (or someone!)

  27. Surfdog says: Aug 3, 2009 5:42 PM

Love how the Queenie fans immediately jump on the “No way Green had better stats than God Peterson!” bandwagon before doing their homework! Your brains still frozen from the winter up there? No way Peanutbutterson brings a ring to MN even if he rushes for over 3,000 yards. Queenies just aren’t champion material. Never have been (can you say 0-4?), never will be.
