Just when we thought we were out . . . another Michael Vick-to-Patriots rumor pulled us back in.
Minutes after we posted what we thought was our final Vick rumor squashing post of the afternoon, Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald sent PFT a whopper.
Darlington cites a “very reliable NFL source” that Vick was on the field in Foxborough at 3:30 p.m. working out for the Patriots.
Wow. [Editor’s note: Well put, young Jedi. Well put.]
The information is at odds with everything else we’ve learned Friday, so something is amiss.
Vick was reportedly in Virginia Friday at a bankruptcy hearing. And our own Tom Curran says you can “rule out” Vick being in Foxborough.
Furthermore, we’ve learned that Patriots players were arriving for their second practice of the day at 3:30 p.m., with reporters present. Bill Belichick followed shortly thereafter around 3:45 p.m. (The Patriots also have a separate indoor practice bubble, for what it’s worth.)
Darlington has been banging the Vick-to-Patriots drum for a few days now, and he is one of the best beat writers around. [Editor’s note: But maybe not after today.]
So he’s either way ahead of the pack and the Patriots have done an incredible job covering the story up or he’s getting bad information.
We’ll find out soon enough.
