A practical joke from Bernard Berrian

And the misadventures with Twitter continue.

Not long ago, we reported that Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson suffered an MCL injury in practice today, which is believed to be a Grade I sprain.

But then receiver Bernard Berrian tweeted that Jackson will miss the entire season.

So while we were trying to figure out whether Berrian knows something that we don’t, he came clean:  Ok folks jokes
over.  T-Jack is fine.  But, lesson learned here.  DON’T BELIEVE
EVERYTHING U SEE IN THE MEDIA!!  Yes, twitter is media!!

Um, let’s see if we understand this.  In an effort to persuade football fans not to trust what they see “in the media,” Berrian told a flat-out lie on his Twitter page?

It’s going to be a very interesting season.

Machiavellianism in today’s NFL should now be referred to as BernardBerrianism… or just “your typical media BS”.
Players becoming “the media” while they’re still players? This IS going to be a very interesting season.

Yeah hes right. Jeez, I have been on this site since a year ago now. And I used to wonder why people thought florio was such a dick. Now I see! You get half your stories wrong anyway. Might start heading over to ESPN.

This is the kind of juvenile crap that will make Goodell ban Twitter for any work related posts. Most large companies have a “no disclosure” rule. The NFL should get one very soon. What a surprise that WRs are the ones causing the most problems with Twitter. If anyone isn’t paying attention to them for more than five minutes, they have an aneurysm.

I’ll bet the Vikings suck this year.

  8. TFBuckFutter says: Aug 1, 2009 2:58 PM

    Haha. That’s a good joke.
A better joke would have been if they had a real quarterback and he suggested THAT guy got hurt since Tarvaris going down doesn’t really hurt the team any.

  12. JimmySmith says: Aug 1, 2009 3:18 PM

It was probably wishful thinking on his part. For the size of his contract, Berriman better do more than last year (sub 50 catches) and he realizes that his chances are quite a bit slimmer with T Jack Off under center. T Jack would rather run than sit in the pocket and when he does throw the ball, he tends to stare down his WR and is not very accurate. In other words, your typical Biqueen QB.

What a dumb practical joke. There were a lot of Vikings fans that were actually excited and then let down when they found out he wasn’t out for the season if you read the comments on the Star Tribune.

  16. Johnnyutah says: Aug 1, 2009 3:33 PM

Apparently the WR’s for the Vikings have better thngs to do then focus on football and just start rumors.. These flamboyant viqueens are going to get a rude awakening this year especially when they play the bears. Too bad we don’t play for the first few months.. Do these guys have any idea what karma is?

  17. SpartaChris says: Aug 1, 2009 3:35 PM

I’m down for a good joke, but truth is this is a shitty thing to joke about.

  18. jusford says: Aug 1, 2009 3:36 PM

Guess you shouldn’t believe everything Benard Barrian has to say?
Maybe you should ask JON KRAWCZYNSKI from the AP? The article from the Chicago Trib states:
Jackson folded to the field in pain as trainers rushed to check on him. After a few minutes, he was able to get up and walk off under his own power.
“I really don’t know what happened,” Guion said. “Everybody was moving so fast.”
“Whether it’s Tarvaris or any of your guys, you don’t want to see any of your guys go down, no matter who it is,” offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said after practice.

  19. MaineMan says: Aug 1, 2009 3:36 PM

So, the day after the Vick/Patriots thing, a site whose primary purpose is to hype outlandish rumors is criticizing Berrian for starting one?
    Pot. Kettle.

Just had a long debate with Berrian on Twitter. The guy’s a moron.

  21. jusford says: Aug 1, 2009 3:43 PM

So Berrian has lost any credibility when he tweets, big deal. The real joke is Berrian trying to “teach a lesson”.

  27. SirSuperSouthern says: Aug 1, 2009 4:39 PM

I’m a fantasy footballer and I wish this news were true. Sage is the man; he’s as reckless as Jeff Garcia in a physical sense with the added advantages having a strong arm and always looking down-field.
I like taking RBs with my first 4 or 5 picks, so getting Berrian as my #1 WR in the 6th and then scooping Sage in the 13th has VALUE written all over it. Berrian will catch 10+ TDs this year if Sage starts – count on it.

  31. c.carterhof says: Aug 1, 2009 5:06 PM

Jackson, Sage, Booty, Favre, Vick….doesnt matter who we start. Vikings will still win the division, we are better than the rest. See we have the best defense & running game, I see at least 11 wins. Bears maybe 9, packers 8-9, Lions 4-5.

You vikings fans are in for a treat. I can’t believe how great people think the vikings are. They are an average team at best, they might have some great players at certain positions but they are a smashmouth style team playing in a dome. That right there is enough to discredit anything positive. The cannot even utilize the weather.
They went 10-6 last year in a poor division. Beat barely anyone of merit. Giants game doesnt count in week 17 as they were already resting. Carolina probably the only meaningful win as the cardinals were not a very good team in the regular season last year, they only beat 3 teams outside their division and only went to the playoffs by skating off their own weak division with a 6-0 record, they went 3-7 outside the nfcwest.
NFC North will be better this year. The divisions best qb, aaron rodgers, will only improve on his 1st season starting. Chicago will be better, maybe not alot but it will be and I wouldnt be suprised if lions steal a game or 2 in the division.
Vikings are not this super talented team that is just a player away from the big game that everyone seems to think. Infact you fans need to start hoping your team actually can win a playoff game before you start worrying about the superbowl.

  41. Johnnyutah says: Aug 1, 2009 6:49 PM

It’s too bad that AP doesn’t play QB. You guys are already setting yourselves up for taking third in the division behind greenbay. Chicago is a 5/1 favorite this year and your viqueens are not going to be able sneak in because Chicago has no QB this time. We have a franchise QB in cutler now. What do you guys have other then AP? Our defense will be top 10 this year if not top 5.

  42. madM100 says: Aug 1, 2009 7:39 PM

We all know the vikings will win the division. Anyone who thinks diff is wrong

don’t worry dude, most of us are more realistic than that…you aren’t saying anything that most of us don’t already kinda know…the problem is the rabid retards that think we’re super bowl bound are some of the most vocal…don’t strain yourself trying to pee on our picnic, for the most part you’d be wasting your time

it’s also too bad chicago has a WR corps that’s just as mediocre as minnesota’s…cutler can’t throw to olsen everytime…and hester must love playing against the vikes cus that’s the only time he does anything all season…oh and besides AP the vikes have a defense that last season was better than chicago in just about every category (besides int’s and penalties/penalty yards)…top 5 defense for you guys would be a hell of a leap…
i guess time will tell right?

that doesn’t surprise you does it? WR’s in general aren’t really known for their brains…

  45. Johnnyutah says: Aug 1, 2009 9:07 PM

They thought the same thing Before cutler came to Denver.. When rod smith and mcaffrey were at the end of their careers and cutler
made Marshall and royal. I agree our wideout have a lot to prove, but now that Hester has cutler and cutlet won’t be over throwing or under throwing passes. Hester will have a huge year. Plus I would rather have a franchise QB and unproven WRs then no QB and maybe one WR in berrian.

If you check the archives for the kind of “jokes” PFT has posted on April Fool’s Day in the past, you’ll see that Berrian’s attempt at humor was no different.

  47. mnmaverick says: Aug 1, 2009 9:54 PM

I expect the Pats to win the Bowl myself. The Chargers are the dark horse. LT and Merriman are back healthy. The thing with the Vikings being a QB away from something special is that the NFC is so weak. They destroyed the Giants and Cardinals on the road the past two years despite having the worst QB situation in the NFL.

Any football fan that talks about Karmas gonna get you(scary) while trying to make a group of football players seem feminant should break out the high heels and oven mitts and go bake a cake

I love how Queen fans get all braggadocious about last year, like they were “DOMINANT” or something–it was their first division title in a decade, and one they got mostly by default, or at best a slim margin…
    Examples:
They only beat the Lions by 2 points (after a phony, faulty, controversial pass interference call put them into FG range).
    Beat Saints by 3.
    Beat Packers by 1.
    Beat Lions by 4.
Beat the Giants’ SECOND STRINGERS by ONE POINT in week 17 to “claim” the division…
Then, predictably, one and done in the playoffs.
Queens will be lucky to win 8 games this year.
