Falcons, Winborn finally work out a deal

There were reports earlier this week that linebacker Jamie Winborn had ageed to terms with the Falcons.

Winborn’s agent, Jason Fletcher, told us on Friday that a contract had not been signed, and that Winborn was still available.

He’s not anymore.

Fletcher tweeted not long after midnight that Winborn has signed, and the Falcons have announced it this morning.

The good news for Winborn is bad news for linebacker Rashad Bobino, who was bounced to make a spot for Winborn.

The Falcons open camp today, with a pair of practices at team headquarters in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

According to our friends in Delaware, the over/under on fans showing up wearing Mike Vick is 1,250.

WINBORN IS A SOLID PLAYER. I FEEL THAT THIS ACQUISITION GIVES THE FALCONS GREAT DEPTH AND COMPETION @ THE POSITION! NICHOLAS BETTER PERFORM…?

I went to a couple of the mini camps and there were almost no Vick jerseys. I think I saw 2 at one practice and 1 at the other.
“Atlanta Falcon” fans have moved on and many can’t stand the guy. Why would “Vick” fans show up at a Falcon training camp?

A veteran to play strongside linebacker like Jamie Winborn is a solid move. If 2007 4th round draft pick Stephen Nicholas can’t handle the starting job just yet a guy like JW starting in his place alongside a second year MLB in Curtis Lofton and opposite ex-Jaguar Mike Peterson should work out nicely. Winborn played in all 16 games for the Broncos last season, starting 11, and his experience is valuable whether as a starter or backup.
