Patriots on verge of adding Lemon

The Patriots have found a new quarterback, one that isn’t ever going to take Tom Brady off the field for a play if they can help it.

ESPN’s Tim Graham reports that Cleo Lemon, last with the Jaguars, is on the verge of signing with the Patriots.  The deal may be completed Saturday.

Lemon arrived in New England for a workout Friday, potentially causing overexcited Patriots fans and bloggers to think he was Michael Vick.

The Patriots were looking for more experience behind Tom Brady, where Kevin O’Connell and Matt Gutierrez have a combined 11 career attempts.

Lemon started seven games for the Dolphins in 2007, engineering one of the greatest moments of Cam Cameron’s head coaching career.  (Okay, the only one.)

The Patriots faced Lemon twice that year, and Bill Belichick must have seen something he liked.

Look for Lemon to battle Gutierrez for a roster spot.

    Oh…
    Would rather have Vick.

I think Vick will end up being good for whoever ends up getting him. I’m surpised the Pats didn’t consider him.

Better Lemon than Vick. At least the Pats haters would not have any new ammo.

This is one former Dolphin I don’t mind the Pats signing. Of course, if history holds true, he will replace Brady by game 4, and lead them to a Super Bowl, all while breaking Brady’s touchdown record.
I thought Welker was a second rate player before he became a Patriot. Shows how much I knew, eh?

Lemons combined stats in those games were 404 yard pass, 1 TD, 1 INT, 53% completion, and 67.6 QB rating. He’s standard backup material, but at least he has experience. The thought of O’Connel and Gutierrez being the backups scared the heck out of me. Gutierrez is now late round trade fodder and O’Connel gets at least another year of seasoning.
Wes Welker was the best receiver the Dolphins had seen in a decade, “WeMissYouDan.” His worst year catching the ball (caught 56% of his targets in 2005) was still better than Chris Chambers best year. Who knows if it was the coach, GM, or owner, but someone in the organization convinced themselves that Welker was only a return specialist.

What history was the basis for this idiotic post?…Is the propane leaking in the trailer?

A lot of folks are saying Lemon is mere camp fodder….I only have seen him play on a few occasions….Let me ask a Fin Fan…is the guy a potential wildcat QB?..can he run?

    Camp fodder to relieve Brady.

    @ EskinSux:
If you will take moment to allow your halfassed self to read the rest of the post, you will see it is a reference to what I thought of Welker when he was a Dolphin…he left and blew up in NE.
Try applying a little bit of critical thinking before you decide to throw insults around, thereby confirming your douchehood.

    @Provance1:
Lemon never did much more than deliver that single win, which was plenty at the time – facing an 0-16. He never really had a chance though. He was always a backup and the only coach that gave him a chance was CaMORON, and that was after the rest of our roster had been depleted and the season was all but lost. I can’t remember him ever impressing me as an overwhelmingly mobile QB, but it’s also been almost two years since his short stint as a starter.

yet they still haven’t found a way to win a Super Bowl since the last 2 won by the ONE & ONLY 6x Champ Steelers…and they have yet to win a LEGIT one period!
& did I mention that the next time TommyBoy ShadyBrady engineers a 4th qtr. game winning TD drive in a Super Bowl, will be his FIRST…face it Massholes, you got the wrong hero for your TAINTED titles & since he left town for your hated rivals, you’ve won ZILCH!!!

    SixBurgh Dude you are clueless!!!

  13. SixBurghDude says: Aug 2, 2009 10:59 PM

    coltsunitas19,
& you’re no true fan of the Colts (my guess would be that you’re a fan of the RatBirds, based on your username, which actually makes you a hater of all things Steelers), otherwise you would realize that not only did the Cheats employ it against the Colts, afterall it’s a well know fact that BeliCHEAT’s illegal tactics can be traced back to his days in Cleveland & was most certainly NOT a one game deal! Once a cheat, always a cheat & I guarantee they are still doing it today, the worst PR nightmare the NFL could ever face would be a question of it’s integrity, which is why the additional evidence was destroyed & covered up, and will never be made public again even if they were caught! As a true fan, I know I was pissed when it was revealed that the tapes were used to gain an unfair advantage in multiple games against the Steelers!!!
They also stole additional opportunities for your team to compete for titles by mauling your receivers in the playoff games they won en route to their TAINTED titles…WAKE UP FOOL!!!

    @SixBurghDude:
School doesn’t start for another month so I know we’ll hear from you all month long with your BS.
Brady had engineered the game winning TD but his D gave it up with 35 seconds left…you really have no clue.
And stop with the tapes you ‘tard…if you can truly explain to me how they were used then I will give you a good debate. You’re nothing but a Steeler homeboy as it doesn’t matter what team other fans are for, you give the same BS to any of them…
Your Steelers will not even win the AFC this year. Even if you do, what else does Pittsburgh have? I can imagine what that city is like when the Steelers are not winning, it must be more depressed than Detriot.

  15. SixBurghDude says: Aug 3, 2009 1:59 PM

    @ footballnut-
    awww, you’re a Masshole ain’t ya???
thx. for your prediction, afterall, if true you’ll be all over this site with your sack pumped up to the size of a basketball & if not you won’t be heard from & when you finally are it will just be to spew your filthy bile…so it really is useless for you to post your forecast, unless of course, I print it & wipe my ass with it!

  16. footballnut says: Aug 3, 2009 2:52 PM

You must be new here…I always come on here and congratulate the Champs whoever they are did it with the Gents and have even given the Steelers their due.
I am a football fan first and foremost but yes I am a rabid Pat’s fan.
You have no idea where I am from or what I’ve done…I don’t spew bile, but it seems that’s all you’ve got. Stop dry heaving all over the board …but you’ve accomplished one thing that not even Vox has done, you’ve lowered the median IQ of the PFT posters by about 15 points.
Thanks for making the rest of us look like we have the IQ of a grape…

  17. SixBurghDude says: Aug 4, 2009 10:12 AM

yet you know not only where I’m from, but what age I am as well???
as for your IQ, apparently you need no assistance in revealing it’s inadequacies!
as for mine, at least I can say it’s commensurate with the salary I earn!!!

  18. footballnut says: Aug 4, 2009 12:50 PM

The way you talk BS all the time shows your maturity, no need to know anything else.
So how much is Mickey D’s paying now?
What grown man comes on a message board and tries to brag about his salary?
Keep coming on Pats articles/posts and keep talking your BS, I guess you have nothing else to keep you happy…
Don’t worry though, the season is about start and we’ll see how much your BS is validated then.
I usually have respect for Steeler fans but you and Florio Borio if you’re not the same person, are the most obnoxious.
I don’t think you’ve had one rational thought anywhere on these posts other than name calling. If you are a grown man you really need to grow up, not to mention why don’t you come here to Boston and say what you are saying to a Pats fans face?
I know, I know we suck, and don’t know football and are a bunch of bandwagoners, but seriously come up here and talk…
