Titans, Britt strike a deal

With the ceiling established by the five-year contract between the Giants and receiver Hakeem Nicks, the 29th overall pick in the draft, the Titans were able to work out a five-year deal with receiver Kenny Britt, the 30th overall pick in the draft.

News of the agreement comes via Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper.

Though the timing possibly is coincidental, it’s also possible that agent Todd France decided to wait for the Nicks deal to come in before finalizing the Britt agreement.

Terms of Britt’s deal have not yet been released.  Nicks will earn a base amount of $12.5 million over five years.

Moving forward, Nicks and Britt’s careers likely will be compared closely.  If Britt becomes a star and Nicks doesn’t, Giants fans and media might have an insightful and/or colorful response.

Britt could become one of the most explosive receivers in the NFL.

The Titans are in desprete need of a good reciver, and i hope that Nicks will be good for the Titans. They are one of the most elite teams in the NFL, and could be the best if VY and Collins had some decent targets to throw to and now hopefully they will.

Britt will have an average career stat wise because he plays for a team where the backs move the chains and the defense dominates the other side of the ball. Anything over 40 catches for 700 yards and 4 TD’s will be a bonus. If Nicks produces those numbers for the Giants he will be an underachiever. Yes I know that the Giants have a similar offencedefence but the key difference is that the Titans win when the QB throws for under 200 yards where as the giaints often don’t

Talking about Britt and the titans not Nicks and the Giants :o . It happens, yeah, britt has good size and can move the chains, anything more remains to be seen.

@botchedextrapoint: Over 40 catches, 700 yards, and 4 TDs is a bonus? Justin Gage had 55 receptions for 750 yards in 2007 (while only starting half the season), and 6 touchdowns last year (bothered by injuries for a lot of the year), and most consider him mediocre even with the huge clutch games he had last year against Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore in the playoffs.

As a Giants fan, Im not worried at all that Britt will be the better receiver then Nicks. Nicks is going to be the best receiver from this class when all is said and done. I dont expect him to be mediocre or good. I think he will be great. This year you will see it in his game, not necesarilly his numbers though. But in 3 years Nicks will be a stud. Britt will not have the same success in that system.

As a Rutgers grad and Giants fan, it was very disappointing seeing Britt go one pick later to the Titans. With so many Rutgers/Giants fans in the area, the comparisons between Nicks and Britt are inevitable. Here’s hoping they are both great. But it sure feels like a missed opportunity to root for our guy from Bayonne on a weekly basis. But the picks were understandable. The Giants needed a guy with great hands like Nicks, and took Bardem as the taller redzone target in the 3rd round. The Titans have their possession guys in place and needed a big, physical receiver to complement them.

Yeah, I definitely agree with RutgersFan. Kenny Britt was a local specimen and when the Giants took Nicks over Britt, they definitely disappointed some fans. So if Britt ends up as the better player, you can be sure the fans will be mad
