NFC South training camp one-liners

Falcons LB Curtis Lofton and CB Tony Tiller were held out of practices on Sunday.

Falcons DE John Abraham is trying to act as a mentor for rookie DT Peria Jerry.

WR Brian Finneran says that he’s willing to do whatever’s necessary for him to earn a spot on the Atlanta roster.

Although it is early in camp, QB Matt Ryan and TE Tony Gonzalez seem to be developing chemistry.

DE Julius Peppers didn’t speak to the media when he reported to Panthers camp.

Carolina QB Jake Delhomme did stop to let everyone know he’s excited for camp to start so the playoff loss to the Cardinals becomes a distant memory.

Panthers WR Steve Smith, on the other hand, isn’t that excited to return to the scene of his assault on former teammate Ken Lucas.

Carolina coach John Fox said he expects the team to scrimmage at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday.

Saints LB Marvin Mitchell got the better of RB Reggie Bush during a pass-rushing drill at Saints practice.

DE Charles Grant was the only member of the Saints who failed to make his assigned reporting weight.  [Editor’s note:  That’ll happen when StarCaps is no longer an option.]

Saints DT Kendrick Clancy missed a second straight practice on Sunday with back spasms, but the team hopes he’ll be back on the field on Monday.

The first few days of practice saw Saints CB Jason David flourishing in defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ system.

The Buccaneers offense caught some hell from coach Raheem Morris near the end of Sunday’s practice.

The Buccaneers signed G Ryan Schmidt, a rookie who was cut by the Titans before training camp, and released G Maurice Miller.

Neither the offensive nor the defensive lines were impressive over the weekend.

TE Kellen Winslow said he is still trying to learn the Buccaneers’ uncomplicated offense.

Brian Finneran is a lock to make the roster without Roddy White around.

“I’m just trying to learn the offense, it’ll come,” said Winslow.
“It’s a wide zone scheme offense and go with the play-action off of that. It’s not a complicated offense and I really like it, a lot of guys like it so we’re excited”
    Am I missing something here?
