Andy Reid gets upset at the wrong people

We missed something on Monday, but it still merits a quick mention.

Eagles coach Andy Reid wasn’t happy that the media found out that linebacker Stewart Bradley tore his ACL during a Sunday night scrimmage by communicating with someone other than Eagles coach Andy Reid.

So Eagles coach Andy Reid decided to project a little condescending pissiness during his Monday press conference.

“We won’t talk about injuries today,” Reid said.  “Some of your colleagues here decided that they would go to the players and/or other personnel here and ask about injuries.  I made a pact with you guys when I first got here that I would disclose to you the injuries that you just stay away from the players, stay away from other personnel in the organization and I would take care of you with that.  That part was breached.”

Yikes.  A guy loses 75 pounds, and all of a sudden he’s a diva.

In all fairness, teams are required to disclose no information in the preseason regarding player injuries.  And maybe Reid was upset that the report of a torn ACL became public before they could snooker another team for a trade or a free agent for a minimum-salary contract.

Still, Reid shouldn’t be pissed at the reporters for doing their jobs.  He should be pissed at the in-house people who blabbed about Bradley’s injury.

Reid should be at home with his family before he suffers from the same situation as Dungy. Not trying to be mean but it’s the truth.
If he doesn’t take care of his family and chooses the NFL over family and the Mormons, he is gonna burn in hell. Right?

Andy Reid should be upset that PantherPride74 stated his Carolina Panthers team will put a beatdown on the Eagles in Week 1, Sunday September 13 at Bank of America Stadium starting at 1:00 P.M. EST. Hail Eagles!

  10. jbruder02 says: Aug 4, 2009 10:13 PM

Yeah your boyfriend, Howard Eskin, broke this “story”.
Florio – Why did it take so long for you to report on this? This happened yesterday at 4:30 pm EST. Andy Reid acted like a baby and made the Eagles organization look stupid (as usual). But it takes you over 24 hours to report on this… weird.
If this had something to do with Roethlisberger or the Steelers, this would have been posted within an hour and it would have been written in a way to make the team look bad and you would have put some ridiculous spin on it.
There would definitely be a sentence that starts with, “In all fairness…” if that was the case.
    There’s something fishy here…

Andy Reid said his agreement w/ the media was that they wouldn’t approach the palyers or any member of the organization. In order for a member of the media to gather this information I’m sure they would have to inquire about it, and it appears thats what he’s saying. Since the “pact” was with the media, it seems to me that he would have a right to be upset with them.
You can argue that a pact with the media may not mean much, but his anger is pointed in the right direction.

  34. mvlonergan says: Aug 4, 2009 11:35 PM

It’s good PFT finally mentioned this. I heard the clip on Sirius NFL and Reid sound like an self-righteous jerk. The subjects of media coverage do not get to dictate how they are covered. Likewise, sports writers work for their respective newspapers or websites, not for Andy Reid or the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s the writer’s job to break stories that generate traffic to their outlet, thereby making money for their bosses and ensuring they won’t get sh*tcanned in the next round of newspaper layoffs. And they can all see the writing on the wall. If Philly is anything like Boston, then the established local writers are already leaving newspapers to write for websites. Young guys who work longer and harder and don’t care as much about salary are taking the beatwriter positions. The few old guys still with their original paper are looking around realizing those are the only two seats in this game of musical chairs, so they have to start working for stories again instead of just sitting on their butts as columnists. So they break a story to save their jobs. Who would fault them for that.

  35. Travis says: Aug 4, 2009 11:43 PM

I agree Andy Reid doesn’t even know the worst of it. It’s only the first week of Training camp. Wait until the NFL’s first season on Twitter

First off…..Let me say, Bigbluefan, go play with the rats in that shithole of a city you live in, OK….You’re not in a 5 star hotel room overlooking times square, ordering room service with an unlimited american express, living large, enough with the NYC innuendo, more than likely you’re sitting in a row home in Brooklyn, dodging the crack dealers, pimps thugs and whores, that you call neighbors, and your trip to the swamp in jersey on sunday(if you can even afford it) is a relief to the daily shithole you call home……..That being said, the Burger King broke(as you say) this story cause he simply was trying to scoop Mikey Miss, who is kicking his ass day after day, and in his egotistical jackass “never had a bad day in my life” mantra this was the little dweebs way of evening the score…Florio has drank the eskin poison, or he would have mentioned he was the first to report it , funny how 15 mins. to sell your site has somehow caused a memory lapse…..In the end, i could care less if Reid tries to control the media, i’m not impressed , he is just doing banner and lurie’s bidding, it was better when he was fatter and grunted like a sweathog before the cameras…….He’s out for the year, does it matter?

I love how sports fans will rip into any mistake made by a young black athlete, but a judge in philadelphia can compare Andy Reid’s house to a crack house and he only catches a few remarks from haters on being a bad parent. Let me ask you this: Reid produced two heroin addicts and has surely padded their pockets for their smack ridden lives, Mike Vick killed some dogs (terrible I know)….what’s worse?? Abandoning your children for a high profile NFL gig or killing Lassy??

I realize the pointless-ness to ragging on Florio while reading the site. He has a right to make fun of who he wishes, but I do NOT understand how he can be so blatantly hypocritical and have no one really care. He says himself in this article “In all fairness, teams are required to disclose no information in the preseason regarding player injuries.”
Yet, he puts up a whole conspiracy theory story about how the dolphins are cheating and this and that just because they put a player on the PUP list and aren’t revealing his exact injury?
    That I can’t understand.

  46. rankthis says: Aug 5, 2009 6:05 AM

The phone call that the trainer answered was not the first call to Bradley’s phone while he was in treatment. Les Bowen of the Daily Times called Bradleys agent and then called Bradley while the session of camp was still going on, which is what set Reid off. It is common courtesy to not contact a player during practice unless they are made available by the team. Once the news broke that he had a torn ACL, every other media guy started scrambling to get confirmation, and some crossed the line.

  47. realityonetwo says: Aug 5, 2009 7:41 AM

Heaven forbid somebody should ask the person who’s injured about his injury. If Reid had spent as much time worrying about his children as he does fretting over strangers on a “team” that he coaches, maybe the children wouldn’t have turned out to be felons.

What does Philly offer the world no beaches you all come to NJ and ruin those beaches you have no culture
Hell the goverment left Philly for DC what does that say about Philly when even the Goverment does not want you
The only thing a Egirl fan can do is go to the mummers parade on New Years day and puke on the street
and I do go to the Swap every game and 7 out of eight of them are great the only bad one is when the trash from Philly gets the day out of jail and drives north to run there mouths before the game
Funny thing is most of the green trash is back in Philly by the 4th quarter talking about next year
And the good news is that NYC has five star hotels where as Philly has nothing

  50. Sofa King Great says: Aug 5, 2009 9:23 AM

Idiots… by some of your logic the fact that big red has a head coaching gig means he’s causing his kids to be addicts, then there should be 31 other people in the league with the same result. Dungy is regarded as one of the classiest, all around good guys around the league (i.e. see the weight he carries in the Vick fiasco), and yet his family suffered a tragedy. His kids are legally adults and making their own decisions.
How’s your thought process address Michael Oher? His dad was murdered, mother was a crack addict, and was for all intensive purposes homeless. I am thinking that might be a little tougher than your dad being an NFL head coach, but he hasn’t been seen waving guns at other cars with drugs in his truck. Basically stuff can happen no matter what you do to prevent, so calm down.
On an unrelated note, my brother’s ex-wifes 2nd cousin’s babysitter saw Michael Vick board a plane for Minnesota, just sayin’…

  51. Smush Rodrigez says: Aug 5, 2009 9:23 AM

Reid and Banner are not great PR people. That being said, I understand Reid’s annoyance.
Mike, your comment that he took it out on the wrong people is fine but how exactly do you know that he also did not take it out on the right people? He may have ripped the players and even Joe Banner (since some assume this is where it came from).
This is a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. They are at training camp. It does not make sense to have players and coaches talking to the media while they have other stuff to do when Andy provides the proper forum. Did it really matter to anyone that the story got out a few hours early?
If I was the reporters in Philly, I would have said something back to Andy. I would have said something like, every story about the Eagles gets broken by national media. If you want us to respect your rules, you should give us the opportunity to break the stories before we are out of jobs. The Philly writers are terrible and are always over analyzing the national media stories because thye have none of their own even though they are there daily.
Mikey Miss talked about this story and kept talking in general about reporters. he should have manned up and said Eskin is the one who broke it. Mike Miss was actually praising the reporters for doing their job – which was Eskin.

Sure. When his boss Joe Banner said that the Eagirls have the best roster in the league. That puts the onus on coaching. However the Eagirls do will be seen as a direct reflection on the job Reid does as a coach and after a season in which the Eagirls went to the conference championship game, a time when the boss man should be heaping accolades on his coach, that means that it’s Super Bowl or bust for him.
Of course you’ve got to be able to add 2 + 2 and come up with 4 but we know that that’s not a given with you, smush. I’m thinking that Andy’s not going to be any happier now that Juqua Parker has been busted with drugs.

Um, I said coach. You and Smush need to get yourselves to a third grade reading comprehension class. If Andy Reid doesn’t win the Super Bowl this year, barring extraordinary circumstances like injuries to multiple players, he’ll be fired. He knows this, and that’s why he’s on edge.

Vox, it’s funny because your coach is Wade Phillips. Let me know when he wins a playoff game. The only reason he’s not on edge is because Jerry Jones thinks he’s a real coach for some reason. Andy’s done more with the Eagles in 10 years than Wade could ever dream of doing.

  64. VoxVeritas says: Aug 5, 2009 1:31 PM

“Vox, it’s funny because your coach is Wade Phillips.”
Wade Phillips has nothing to do with Andy Reid, but for the record, Jerry Jones has put the same pressure on Phillips as Banner did on Reid. Difference being that I don’t think that Wade Phillips is a particularly good coach, most Eagirl fans (including you, apparently) think that Andy Reid shits cheesesteak sandwiches and pisses beer.

  65. RexRyan'sStressedLapband says: Aug 5, 2009 3:46 PM

I hate to get in the middle of this, but the only reason Phillips is still the coach of the of the Cows is because Jerrah can’t afford to fire his ass. This is why he is alienating his entire fan base with his ridiculously overpriced stadium. As far as hot seats go, there is no coach sitting on a redder piece of furniture than Wade.
