Harvin “doesn’t look natural” when fielding punts

When the Vikings picked receiver Harvin in the first round of the 2009 draft, he was hyped in part as a guy who could revolutionize the team’s return game.

We’ve been skeptical of that contention, given that Harvin didn’t return punts and kicks at Florida.

He was fielding punts at practice on Tuesday, and both Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press have indicated, Twitter style, that Harvin doesn’t look natural when catching punted balls.

Zulgad says that it "[d]efinitely does not come naturally to him.” Jensen says that Harvin “doesn’t look natural.”

So maybe that’s why he didn’t do it at Florida.

But it’s not all bad news. Zulgad says that Harvin has no issues returning kickoffs.
