Toomer signs with Chiefs

Amani Toomer isn’t ready for retirement yet.

The Chiefs signed the longtime Giants receiver Tuesday afternoon after watching him work out for the team Monday evening.

Toomer is unlikely to be a special teams force, expect him to compete for significant snaps at receiver right away.

And since we wrote about the impact of the expected move just a few hours ago, there’s no reason to continue to repeat the points here.

D.J. Hackett, who has tried out for numerous teams including the Chiefs, has to be wondering if he’s going to find another gig.

Watch out Lions, chiefs are trying to match your record you set last year.

At this stage in his career, the Toomer is pretty benign…

Everytime I hear Amani Toomer’s name I think of how Arnold Schwarzenegger would pronounce it:
    Ah-mahn-ee Toom-ahh

Devard Darling is the odd man out. He wears #81 right now anyway. Release and give the # to Toomer.

Will D.J. will be catching passes from a QB who goes by the name of J.P. out in the U.F.L.

Since Toomer signed with the Chefs then that should mean that the Eagles will lose their first round dfart pick next year.

I Think He Means The Patriots. Becuz They Traded Matt Cassel For A Second Rounder this year to the chiefs. And Next Year They May Give Them A 1st Rounder For Toomer..

  15. Common Sense says: Aug 4, 2009 3:27 PM

Yep, i lost it…..a team that won 2 games last year, had 10 sacks, didn’t address the pass rush need, got a new QB who has to learn a new coaches offense, has nobody to throw to that can catch, an offensive line that got very lucky they had a mobile QB last year or it would’ve given up the most sacks in the league. Yeah I’ve lost it, they sound like playoff contenders.

Smush Rodrigez: i think he means the Patriots. Rememeber when the gave the Chiefs & Scott Pioli a “deal” with the cassel trade.

Toomer suuuucks. He’ll make a play here and there though, but nothing to get excited about if you are a Chiefs fan.

Vrabel, zach thomas, and the first two draft picks are de and dt……yup you lost it

Jintsbowl: I disagree. if i was a chief fan i would be happy of this news!!! Dwayne Bowe on one side and Amani Toomer on the other side. Looks similar to the Giants wide recievers of the superbowl year.

  21. crookedsteve says: Aug 4, 2009 3:51 PM

No I mean any time a free agent is signed by any team the eagles will lose a draft pick.

    Yeah, you have lost it.
No one has said the Chiefs will be playoff contenders this year, but ZERO wins?
On the defensive side of the football, the Chiefs have made drastic changes. The only thing really kept intact is the Chiefs’ very talented young secondary (pretty much the team’s lone bright spot from last season). The 4-3 will no longer be run, but rather a hybrid 3-4 style defense. This, coupled with the acquisition of linebackers Mike Vrabel and Zach Thomas and defensive linemen drafted specifically to fit the system should definitely help the pass rush… although, admittedly, there wasn’t much of a pass rush to begin with.
On the offense, the Chiefs have acquired Matt Cassel, who could very well be worth the money he’s being paid.
No receivers to throw to? How about Dwayne Bowe, Bobby Engram, a very athletic Mark Bradley, and now Amani Toomer. Engram and Toomer are getting a little long in the tooth, yes. But they are both talented players. Toomer is closing in on 10,000 career receiving yards.
As for the O-line, it is improving. Branden Albert and Brian Waters give the line a solid left side, and the addition of Mike Goff should help out tremendously as well. The Chiefs also have a few little known but talented youngsters in this area, including Barry Richardson and Herb Taylor. We’ll see how they do.
The backfield is fine right now, with Larry Johnson leading the way and Jamaal Charles, the second year man out of Texas, in the mix.
Like I said, no one said that the Chiefs will make the playoffs this year. But to imply that they won’t win any games is ludicrous.

Crookedsteve what are you talking about why would the eagles lose a draft pick? Please further explain your reasoning. Are you stupid or are you trying to be funny because really you’re not.
The chiefs got a great receiver out of this deal. He had several key catches last season like in the Steeler and Bengal games.

  24. Common Sense says: Aug 4, 2009 4:44 PM

Vrabel, zach thomas, a #1 draft pick that hasn’t even shown up to camp, Dorsey who they won’t even let on the field because he can’t pass a conditioning test, WOW now that’s a defense that will scare some teams.

Good for AT he was and always will be a part of the Giants
He has been around 12 years and I am glad to see he is still playing
And unlike the rest of the AFC weak he has a ring
He brings class and style to any team
We miss you 81 good luck

Good for Toomer, he will eventually retire as a Giant. Classy and quality player all the way around. He will be an excellent role model for the younger guys in KC. He was an unfortunate loss to the combination of cap considerations and future plans in NY. Best of luck to you, Amani, hope to see you back in NY when you retire.
