Orton hears a boo

Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton received a warm welcome from Denver fans during a Thursday night practice at Invesco Field.

The crowd of 13,000-plus loudly booed the former Bear when he threw two interceptions and badly misfired on a pass to receiver Chad Jackson.

Orton has been installed as the starter, for now, following an offseason trade that sent quarterback Jay Cutler to Chicago.

I have been checking this website for some time now but never made a comment, but this article is a bunch of bullshit.
I was there tonight, yes, the crowd booed when things went bad. The crowd also exploded with cheers when things went right.
There was no animosity between the crowd and the players/team and everything was in good fun and in good spirits

except they won’t have any benefit because they traded away their first round pick next year for an undersized second round (rate) cornerback.

  23. Eric Kidd says: Aug 6, 2009 11:52 PM

I just got back from the practice. It was bad. Really, really bad. Orton threw, in consecutive passes, a pick, the badly thrown pass that almost got picked and then a pick six.
Someone call Doc Brown, Pat Bowlen needs the DeLorean.

  24. magsdad1 says: Aug 6, 2009 11:52 PM

    Was there with Bustafluff…….
Orton threw a few throws that were picked……by VERY good defensive plays. I can’t tell you the last time our defense actually looked agressive.
The defense looks nothing like last year’s group. NOTHING.
There was little booing, but much more cheering. The practices have been spirited, and honestly, this team needed an infusion of something new. I actually thought Orton looked better than what most people are expecting. From most talk, you would think that Orton is physically disabled. Its ridiculous.
BTW, also an Illinois graduate. Ron Turner will make sure that Cutler has to earn every throw he makes. Cutler is a very good physical quarterback. But Turner will find a way….he always does.

  40. Jon Snow says: Aug 7, 2009 1:12 AM

What’s not mentioned is that the ints were mostly a result of… get this… don’t laugh, but a swarming attack-style defense (that knew exactly what the offense was working on) – – with one defender (Goodman) having a great practice (it’s about time) and making a great defensive play or two. There were also loud cheers throughout – where was that in the report?
The biggest boos were directed at Prater for missing a couple of kicks. The entire 13,000+ didn’t boo Orton – it was a few sections and many of the boos were people booing the booers. It’s almost funny that most of you believe whatever you read and forget about the agendas in the race for your minds and time.
And, another thing, about that defense – in case you haven’t heard – it’s not the same defense as last year. Not even close. Almost all different personnel, different scheme, different coaches, different attitude, different year. Why do people will sensationalist inspired ignorance upon themselves?

  41. touchdowntrabo says: Aug 7, 2009 1:14 AM

  44. Chiggs says: Aug 7, 2009 1:53 AM

    Thoughts from the scrimmage:
    1. Orton was mediocre…certainly not awful.
    2. Simms looked better than Orton.
    3. Prater received the loudest jeers.
    4. Alphonso Smith looked good.
    5. Andre Goodman looked good.
    6. Hillis + Buckhalter looked good.
    7. Ronald Fields looked good.
    8. Lamont Jordan is freaking fat. He must be 270lbs.

“It’s almost funny that most of you believe whatever you read and forget about the agendas in the race for your minds and time.”
It’s a syndrome that affects sports “journalists” who put too much on their plate. They end up reading about sports way more than actually watching sports. And much of what they do end up watching is handpicked highlights that don’t give nearly the full picture. Then they think they know enough to write about it.
Newsflash: The Broncos ALREADY SUCKED. This offseason didn’t ruin them. They’re rebuilding. So maybe they’ll only win six games this year. It will be worth it when they build a winner in another year or two, rather than hovering between 7 and 9 wins year after year for a decade.
    Nobody likes mediocrity.

Will the Bears fans start pouting like their QB? Get all sulky faced? Blame it on the Diabeetus? Or just ignore it and talk about how Cutler has such a big, strong arm?

  57. SkinsFanInNebraska says: Aug 7, 2009 10:46 AM

How would Vick help the Denver Donkies? They’ve already got a mediocre QB who has proven his ability to throw INTs.

  58. MaineMan says: Aug 7, 2009 10:51 AM

    ” . . . badly misfired on a throw to Chad Jackson . . .” ?
Coincidentally, Tom Brady had that same problem with Jackson. Which is why Jackson is no longer on the Patriots and why he probably won’t make the final cutdown with the Broncos.
Seriously, Jackson probably has trouble finding a route to the stadium even with a top-of-the-line GPS. So, using a misfire to him as an example of poor QB play isn’t really saying anything.

    @ The DPR —
I agree. With the Broncos’ out-of-division schedule this year – the Steelers and NE, plus BAL and Indy on the road, plus 4 games against the NFC East – any result better than 7-9 should probably be considered a significant improvement.
It won’t be, of course. And everybody (meaning the majority here who don’t really pay attenttion or, you know, think) will blame “a mediocre result” on McDaniels and the Cutler thing – kinda like the way they say, “the Pats didn’t even make the playoffs last year!”, as if 11-5 on the arm of a QB who hadn’t started since high school and with the featured RB and half the defensive starters on IR was the mark of a sucky team.
Aaaand then the Broncos will become “the miracle team” of 2010 with all these schmucks making up wild explanations and pointing to “weak schedules” or other such crap.
Meanwhile, the Bears will continue in the .500 Club for the next several years.

    Trust me, I can empathize.
Glad we Bears fans don’t have to do it anymore.
Did someone really say the booing was just people “booing the other boo-ers”??
    That’s rich.

    But he’s no Cutler.

Isn’t it amazing that all those people with an anti-Bears agenda now *all of a sudden* think Orton is just the bee’s knees, when only last year he was an utter piece of sh1t?
It’s amazing what a uniform change can do to your basic skill set & athleticism, isn’t it?

  64. patsSB44champs says: Aug 7, 2009 11:46 AM

  65. BeardedAxe says: Aug 7, 2009 11:46 AM

Athleticism and skills aren’t everything, Orton actually has a pair of nuts and can lead a team. Something no chin sulkface hasn’t figured out yet.
You said it yourself, “What he lacks in raw skill he makes up for with guts. ”
Orton has guts, Cutler has none.

  66. MaineMan says: Aug 7, 2009 12:41 PM

    @ Dewey Axewound —
It’s not really a question of whether Orton or Cutler is a better QB in an absolute sense. Orton will probably be more effective executing McDaniels’ methodical ball-control offensive scheme than a gunslinger like Cutler ever would have been, regardless of his intrinsic abilities. So, both QBs are probably better off where they are now than where they were, at least in the short term.
The difference for me is that I have more confidence in McDaniels’ potential to eventually build a lasting great team around whoever his QB is than I have in the Chicago FO to build a great team around Cutler.

Let us remember we traded our natural 1st next year and not the Bears’ for Alphonso. He’s got a hefty bill to settle up…he’d better look good.
There’ll be plenty of QBs available over the next 2 years and Sam Bradford is near the bottom of my list…McNabb’s probably at the top.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Simms winds up being the guy. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Broncos are involved in some all-time uglies this year…put the Eagles/Bengals “Wait…we can actually tie?” to shame. I have consistently held my over/under on wins @ 5.5
