I hope the niners lower their max contract to him. Especially if November hits and he still isn’t signed, they should offer him a contract around where the late round recievers recieved.

In the 1983 NFL Draft, Elway was selected as the first overall pick by the Baltimore Colts. Elway had, by then, played two summers of minor league baseball for the New York Yankees organization. Additionally, Elway had publicly stated that he refused to join the Colts organization, feeling the team could not allow him to be successful. If they did not trade him he said he was going to play baseball. Eventually, Colts owner Robert Irsay gave in. The Colts traded him to the Denver Broncos for QB Mark Herrmann, rights to OL Chris Hinton and a first-round pick (OG Ron Solt) in the 1984 NFL Draft on May 2, 1983. John Elway is one of three quarterbacks in the history of the NFL Draft (started in 1936) to be drafted #1 and go on to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The other two are Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman.[3]

Anyone who thinks that Crabtree could even possibly negotiate a better deal next year is freaking high! I could guarrantee that he would completely fall out of the first round. Although extremely talented, why would you want someone whom you know will holdout as long as possibly or indefintely for absurd money? Even if he finally signed he wouldn’t really contribute until the following year. The guy has balls…to not even participate in the draft at all and expect #1 WR money. What a moron.

First off, I went to Tech and watched Crabtree for 3 years as well as some of his high school. EVERY interview I ever saw he was one of the the nicest most gracious college football players I have seen. He never took credit for anything and always praised his teammates.
Yes, the hold-out thing looks shi**y but he’s trying to maximize his money. If you want to complain about that then fine but he has an amazing work ethic and has always been a decent guy.
And as for THIS moron:
The name is: Texas Tech University
And with all the busts TU has had recently, I wouldn’t be talking about ANYTHING to ANBODY!

So here is the perfect storm – Crabtree holds-out and opts into next year’s draft. In the meantime, the CBA negotiations include the rookie salary cap, and Crabtree loses millions.
Stop being so greedy and get your ass on the field. You are in a select group of people who get paid to play football. Yes you suffer the pain and yes your career could be shortened at any moment, but even at #10, he’ll make enough to be set for life.

Okay, let’s start off at the beginning here. Big fish, small pond. You are coming out of Texas Tech and now you are going to trust the advise of a weak agent and a guy who runs a bail bonds business?
It is plain as day that whatever advice he is getting is very poor. They are trying to ride a “better” gravy train.
Being a pro athlete these days is a business and this is not good business. Maybe someone in the CFL will take a chance on him. I know that all the NFL DBs are licking their lips waiting for him to come to their camp and / or game. One good hit from a real NFL player may wake him up.

Another team that has to be smiling is the Jaguars. They like the Raiders and Browns got heat for not picking Crabtree. Even though their selection is not signed yet, they did make the safer pick with Tackle Eugene Monroe. OTs are usually safer picks than WRs. The Jags may be going through a mess trying to sign their pick but at least it was a safe one vs Crabtree who was a high risk pick at WR. What would be sad is if the 49ers gave in to Crabtree’s demands only to have him bust and have nothing to show for it.

I dont believe Niners would same mistake of paying a large contract for a supposed “star” player a.k.a Alex Smith who sat out most of the last season! I know they didnt expect him to get hurt but even when he played… well I wasnt impressed. O’Sullivan came out to be quite the stud, and Shaun Hill didnt fall short either.
Obviously Crabtree is holding out, thats apparent. Whether its because he doesnt want to play for the niners or he wants more than $23.5 mil (what Bey is getting) then were better off without him!
We dont need prima donna’s in SF, especially ones that have never caught an NFL pass!

If he was to be drafted in 2010 draft and again does not sign with that team he then would have to sit out the year and on the day of the draft in 2011 he would then become a Rookie Free Agent. So if he does this then he would have to sit out a total of two years then become a Rookie Free Agent and free to sign with any team, which wouldn’t be many, he wanted to. So may maybe April 2011 we will know where he is heading.

That’s what I’m saying. The guy might not want to play in an over-taxed yet bankrupt state for a team that many players, particularly wide receivers like Isaac Bruce, Ashley Lelie and Darrell Jackson, go to allow their careers to die in obscurity. On top of that you know that his endorsement dollars would suffer.

I do think that if he sat this year, he would end up being drafted next year – where I don’t know, but someone would take him by the end of the 3rd round.
Do you know if he refuses to sign for two teams whether he goes back into the draft or if he gets to be a free agent?
