Dolphins safety quits the team

Every year, a few players arrive to training camp and leave without getting hurt or getting released.  They just decide they don’t want to play football anymore.

Dolphins safety Ethan Kilmer is now one of those players.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Kilmer has quit the Dolphins.

A seventh-round pick by the Bengals in 2006, Kilmer was not likely to make the team.

Pro football is a tough tough business. When the fire goes out it is time to quit. I believe that in the end is what happened to Brett Favre.

I remember Ethan Kilmer well, he was drafted because he was a tremendous athlete without much football experience. He played wide receiver at Penn State, but only for a year if I remember correctly. We moved him to Safety and even some corner. He intercepted a Drew Brees pass against the Saints and took it to the house for a TD. I remember Drew Brees trying to chase him down, but Marvin Lewis said after the game, everyone one on our side line knew as soon as he intercepted the ball it was going to be a touch down.
He also was known for winning a bet where he was standing underneath a basketball hoop in just his sandals and had to dunk the ball with both hands and won the bet.
The Bengals cut him because he had a knee injury and after a year decided it was time to move on.

Solid special teamer, well he was with Cincy anyways. I wouldn’t bet against him coming back at some point this season and providing depth on somebodies roster.
