Wynn time in Green Bay?

DeShawn Wynn has always had the talent.

Despite getting drafted in the seventh round in 2007, the Packers running back has always flashed starter-caliber skills.

He has a 5.4 yards per carry average for his career, and was establishing himself as the team’s starter as a rookie before a shoulder injury ended his season. Ryan Grant took over and hasn’t looked back since.

He may have to look back now.

Wynn is reportedly showing the durability and commitment that has eluded him throughout his two-year career. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes Wynn could turn the team’s backfield into a timeshare with Grant. (Fantasy owners should be paying attention.)

“The only thing that he struggled with in the past was the availability/accountability part,” Packers running back coach Edgar Bennett said. “Going back to last year when we brought him back, he’s changed in that area.”

Wynn has a long way to go to prove he’s durable. If he can stay on the field, he could take over third down duties from Brandon Jackson. A committee approach with Grant would also make a lot of sense.

Grant is solid, but Wynn could give the team a different look in short-yardage and passing situations.

“He’s always had the ability to play at a high level, but it’s that next step that you look for in a lot of your younger players,” coach Mike McCarthy said.

“Can he do it every day?”
