The man most famous for punching Brady Quinn in the face can no longer call Quinn a teammate.
The Browns released defensive tackle Shaun Smith Saturday, according the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The timing is a little odd, but the result isn’t surprising. Earlier this offseason, the Browns coaching staff put Smith on notice to, “Shape up and shut up.” (Not exactly Michael Irvin’s HOF acceptance speech, but not bad.)
In the end, Smith’s mouth may have cost him a job, not his fists. It wouldn’t be the first time; the Saints once released him for eating in the Atlanta press box . . . right before a game.
Perhaps the Browns would have put up with Smith if he was a star, but he was just a role playing reserve.
Now the 31 other teams have the opportunity to hear what’s on his mind.
