Mark Sanchez may have received the first team snaps in practice, but Kellen Clemens will get them to open their preseason schedule.
The Jets announced Saturday that Clemens will start the team’s preseason opener against the Rams.
Even with Sanchez getting increased practice reps this weekend, it would have been a shock for him to start the first preseason game. That would have essentially signaled the competition was over.
After Saturday’s practice, Sanchez and Clemens indicated that the two quarterbacks will now take turns running the first team in practice. The same will probably be true in the preseason, where Sanchez seems likely to get a chance in the second game.
The real test will be who starts New York’s third preseason game.
The smart money all offseason has been on Sanchez starting in Week One, and Clemens will likely have to play lights out against the Rams to beat the odds.
Who cares. They both suck.
so if Sanchez started the game the competition is over, essentially you are saying that it is also over if Clemons gets the start, why don’t you put down your Red Bull and think before you type… oh yeah and one more thing hit F7 before you post anything, it’s called a spell check
The Jets do not need much from QB play. They probably have the most talented team in the NFL outside of QB and WR. They return 12 pro bowl players or pro bowl alternates. With a huge upgrade in coaching they might so well this year. But their schedule is brutal and the early season schedule could wreck havoc with the teams confidence.
What concerns me is Clemens penchant of turning the ball over and taking unnecessary sacks. Not that Sanchez has looked any better as it is reported that he has had a problem holding on to the ball to long.
Decent QB play that allows the Jets to survive the tough early schedule could make them a playoff team this year.
Holding the ball too long has always been Sanchez’s shortcoming. At USC he could get away with it because he had all americans on the OL with top WR’s. Never had to read defenses because USC opponents did not offer any changes.
Watching TC has shown the lack of playing time he really has had and I expect him to be ready by mid-season (with some playing time). Kelly will do find. I can not see a change unless Kelly is terrible.
@promini1
You are correct sir!
Clemens = Grossman
Sanchez = Kyle Boller
J-E-T-S are gonna wish they had Favor again this year throwin’ off his back foor into triple coverage!
Like I said earlier am I the only one that thinks bust every time I hear the name Mark Sanchez?
