Cutler's in no hurry to get paid

It was widely believed that quarterback Jay Cutler wanted out of Denver in part because the Broncos wouldn’t give him a new contract.

And it’s widely believed that Cutler would like to get one in his new home of Chicago.

But in the wake of Eli Manning’s $97.5 million extension, Cutler is projecting patience.

“At a certain point there is going to be a time and a place for that,”
Cutler recently told the team’s official web site.  “This year I still have to go out and play and prove
myself on the field and then maybe after this season or maybe after the
next season we’ll sit down and talk and see what we can do.”

The position reflects a quiet confidence in Cutler’s ability to justify a significant payday.  Then again, maybe he realizes that, if Manning and his 76.1 career passer rating and his 3,238 passing yards in 2008 can get $97 million, Cutler and his 87.1 career passer rating and his 4,526 passing yards in 2008 can do a lot better.

Unless Greg Olsen can have a 1,000 yard season, I find it difficult to believe the motley crue of inexperience the receivers that the Bears will field this year will equate to more than a 3,000 yard season for Cutler.

If I was Jay I’d hold out for more, who the hell can afford to live on 97 mill in this economy ? I hope his greed bites him on the A$$.

Sooner or later it’s going to come down to wins and losses for this puke.
    Let’s see how he does.

Uhhh, Manning has a Super Bowl and Cutler doesn’t even have a winning record, I guess he should wait and prove something!

I’m just happy this guy is out of the AFC West, although it would be nice to see him have a stellar year next year.

How does that saying go again? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? I’m pretty sure the cost of keeping Cutler in Denver would have turned out to be a lot less than his market value and maybe even less than the cost of drafting & grooming someone for the role.

Cutler wants a payday to buy a new Flowbee to cut his hair with.

In other words, he’s waiting a few years to maximize his contract. Sounds smart to me. He probably understands that the Bears will cave in to him easily.

Cutler will get a far bigger deal than Eli. Understandable that yes Eli does have a super bowl win but he also has a solid team. He isn’t even comparable to Cutler as far as abilities go. Cutler will be a much better and much more successful quarterback than Eli will even come close being within the next few years. I think Eli is a solid quarterback but he doesn’t have the tools Cutler has as a stand alone quarterback.

Hey Magnum, abilities as a given, isn’t the NFL about winning? Cutler hasn’t proven that he can get the wins. I’m just saying, he wins and he’ll get paid, otherwise, he is just what you said, “a stand alone quarterback.” I really feel he won’t put up the same kind of numbers as in Denver, if you think so, tell me who is he going to throw to, he had some really good receivers to pad his stats last year. It should be an interesting year though!

Put up or shut up time for Cutler. He knows this and has something to prove.
    Should be interesting.

Remember how the whole Manning clan bitched and whined to get Eli out of playing for the Chargers?
How is this crybaby not a pussy but Cutler is?
The Giants are about to make him the most over paid player in NFL history based on a great catch made by another player on one of Eli’s shitty throws.

“It was widely believed that quarterback Jay Cutler wanted out of Denver in part because the Broncos wouldn’t give him a new contract.”
    Like F*CK it was.
The contract wasn’t an issue, AT ALL. Not one bit.
I’d like to see some evidence of this “widely-held” belief, a single story where Cutler says ANYTHING about his contract.
NONE of it was about the contract, not even “in part”.
It was ALL due to Bowlen’s faggy-fur coated LIES (firing the QB coach/Shanny), and McDouchiels’ follow-up back-stabbing
(smiling in Jay’s face and saying he’s “the man”, then sneaking around for Cassel, then, in a meeting held to “make peace”, he STILL stubbornly said he’d “rather have Cassel”).
    THAT’S when things went bad.
Cutler has 3 years left on his deal.
He hasn’t made a peep about it, except for the above, which is a typical Florio something-out-of-nothing piece.
And the Bears will probably offer one at some point this season–not because Cutler’s asking, but for cap reasons, to pre-empt next year’s possible caplessness, and in order to get more long-term value on the back end (like I do with your mom).
    Florio,
I fully understand you have an anti-Cutler agenda, but please just stop MAKING DUMB SH1T UP.
I like how Cutler is “projecting patience”, but not *REALLY* being patient.
