Colts backup quarterback Jim Sorgi is usually only useful in the preseason and during Week Seventeen, after the Colts have clinched a playoff spot.
He might have to wait for December to get significant playing time now.
"Not quite certain how long it's going to take him to get back, maybe two to three weeks," coach Jim Caldwell said Saturday.
The Colts now only have two quarterbacks on the roster: Peyton Manning and sixth-round rookie Curtis Painter. Look for them to sign another arm until Sorgi is healthy.
Painter ultimately get a chance to supplant Sorgi as the team's backup if he impresses.

now who will hold the clip board
Umm, Painter will get Sorgi's spot no matter what. ANYTHING is better than relying on Sorgi.
Colts are screwed!
...wait a second...
Anyone who says "Vick Anyone??" is just stupid. (except me) No way will they take im just because their backup is hurt for couple weeks. But we all know how some of you think....
Jeff George! Give him a chance!
It now gives painter a shot and some reps.
There should be a minor news section. On the left there's the big news, like 'Favre stays retired' or 'Vick works out in Boston.' Then on the right there's this. And 'Miami safety quits football.'
Try that.
The Colts offense succeeds mostly on Manning's intuition. Unless they can transplant Manning's brain to his backup, it almost doesn't matter who they bring in.
This is like Joe Biden having an aneurysm.......Noboby will care, unlees he dies or something........
If Manning goes down they're screwed anyway. Actually the Colts are screwed whether or not Manning goes down.
please wake me up when Vince Young does "anything" but talk ....
Assuming Tony Dungy's relationship with the Colts is close, giving Vick a 2-3 week contract to play the 4th quarter of a preseason game or two could be interesting for all parties.
If Vick is on the roster, the Colts have no trouble selling out their preseason game without having to resort to those god awful bundle offers with regular season games. Vick gets a chance to show if he still has it in front of players a step up from the UFL.
Admittedly there's a lot more value for Vick here so I don't think it's likely but the idea is somewhat intriguing.
And yes I did finally register so I could post that.
they need an arm? cant use vick. he only has 2 legs.
