Wade says Tarvaris knows he'll be the starter

Bobby Wade is at it again.

Not long ago, the Vikings receiver created a stir by claiming during an appearance with our pal Paul Allen of KFAN that Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has said that new Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is a “pussy.”

Wade has now made waves in his own team, strongly implying that the quarterback competition in Minnesota has been rigged — and that Tarvaris Jackson will ultimately win it.

Here are Wade’s comments, per the Minneapolis Star Tribune:  “You know the timing’s really important for every single one of
our receivers, the timing with Tarvaris, and Sage [Rosenfels] for that matter but
especially Tarvaris knowing he’ll be pretty much the named starter
going into the season so timing is everything in this offense.”

So if Tarvaris knows “he’ll be pretty much the named starter,” then either someone in a position to make that decision has told him that — or Tarvaris has access to a psychic.

When did Bobby Wade become the Vikings Mike Vanderjagt. Just because he caught a bunch-o-balls last year he now thinks he needs his own TO type show. Hey Wade SHUT UP and go to practice before Harvin forces you into the 4th receiver spot!!

  2. Jimmy says: Aug 9, 2009 9:26 AM

So the Vikings are throwing the season already huh? TJ is nothing more than a VERY poor mans version of Mike Vick, and that in itself is not saying a lot

Maybe it’s time someone told Wobby Bade to shut his mouth. He’s already got the entire Bears defense circling their calendars, now he’s turned on his own team. What an idiot. Yet another reason to hate the Vikings, there’s getting to be too many to list.
The annual Paper Champions continue to self destruct, while the balding, moustached Nero prays that Sage Rosenfels With a Side of Rice Pilaf can save the thing from burning all the way down – good thing he’s got the support of his receivers, right? Vikings, the ZiggyJet is departing for Los Angeles…

  4. Ftfxr says: Aug 9, 2009 9:30 AM

Yeah, well. I was at training camp yesterday and the quarterback play was atrocious. The starting receivers came off the field visably frustrated. This is going to be a case where the weak link breaks a pretty strong chain

I don’t think that’s how Wade meant it. It sounds like Wade thinks Jackson will start… Florio, you need to work on your ‘American Athlete’ English…

Part of Childress’ stubborn and inevitably career ending attempt at creating another McNabb. Nice to have known you coach, maybe Winona State has an opening.

  8. Bearfan54 says: Aug 9, 2009 9:55 AM

Once again, Bobby Wade proves he is a PUSSY.

  9. Nathan Explosion says: Aug 9, 2009 10:03 AM

Bobby Wade might be a pussy, but he’d be your #1 WR this year, bearfan54.
You could be “team lesbian!” You’d have the pussy-to-pussy connection!

I don’t see Tarvaris as a dual threat since he’s not an elite runner he’s just ok at running. Combine that with his passing inability and it’s obvious that he’s not any kind of threat at all. It’s amazing that Rosenfels doesn’t get a shot to start the season.

  12. jz0717 says: Aug 9, 2009 10:31 AM

Bearfan54 – How on earth does that “proves he is a pussy”?
I’d be more worried about AP not running for 200 yds against the Bears crappy D.

  13. toddm6d says: Aug 9, 2009 10:38 AM

If Wade knows Tavaris is the starter than he also knows the Vikings will be facing blackouts by mid-season.

  14. toddm6d says: Aug 9, 2009 10:40 AM

    Jimmy -
He’s not a poor man’s version of Vick. He’s a poor man’s version of Culpepper who is a poor man’s version of Vick.

  15. Bob Loblaw says: Aug 9, 2009 10:47 AM

Wade talke without thinking it through. My guess is that Tavaris was promised the first “preseason” start, given he is the incumbant.
From there I’d guess Sage gets week 2, and whoever starts week 3 will be the clue as to who who’ll be the starter for the season opener (interestingly Week 3 — generally considered the most important and telling game — will be against the same Texans defense that Sage practiced against the past two years).
I still don’t think that either guy has been promised the starting job. Childress’ coaching future is on the line not to truly evaluate who will be the best fit for the offense.
Not saying it won’t be Tavaris. He does throw one of the better deep balls in the NFL and he has familiarity with the offense. But he hasn’t proved he can make teams pay for blitzing and doesn’t find secondary receivers well when the #1 option is covered. Too often he either just throws out of bounds or checks down to the fullback instead, which kills about 50% of all drives a game.
If he shows improvement in that area, the job is his. If he doesn’t, the job is Sage’s.

  16. Pier588 says: Aug 9, 2009 10:58 AM

The only way the Vikes don’t play lip service to the regular season is by signing Vick. Otherwise Chilly will do a Dave Whinystat and ride AP into the ground.
Who is Bobby Wade and when did he become a star in anything except his bathroom mirror?
The Bears may have a sorry set of receivers (or unproven which is good news for Greg Olsen) but they don’t have the “Mouth of the North” running over to reporters between 2 a days.
Effen Vikings has it right – “it’s time someone told Wobby Bade to shut his mouth.”
Damn – I had to re-login to post again – whats going on this this site? How can something so good continue have these annoying problems?

Wow good one bringing up Vick when he isnt even mentioned. Dont be pissed because Vick beat your teams ass before. Vick is definatly better than any QB on this team

Rosenfels sucks! He couldn’t even bump off David Carr in Houston. Tarvaris is terrible! Go Booty!!!

  19. goose08 says: Aug 9, 2009 11:17 AM

florio, it looks like wade is merely saying that “especially Tavaris,” saying that he believes tavaris will start not that tavaris knows it.
sh-t like this is why appelate courts dont overturn jury decisions based on the transcript….you can’t get the whole jist by just reading the script..
the real question is, is childress that big of a pussy that he can’t control this idiot?

  21. GB3Pack4 says: Aug 9, 2009 11:40 AM

Let’s go with the implied “rigging” for a sec. So Tarvaris takes over, & a sulking Sage treks over to Green Bay. GB cuts Brian Brohm, who is later spotted sitting on his suitcase on the side of the highway, where a field scout finds him, and the rest is Raiders history …
Every single season, above and beyond all the predictable permutations, so many more pop up to make things interesting -
Personally, I think they should make Jared Allen a Defense/Offense kind of guy. Do you doubt that he could do it?
Just think: it’s third and 87 for the Vikes. Jared takes the snap and DRIVES that ball through the air – by sheer willpower, or by addressing the ball in an ear-shattering bellow, or giving it a really good head-butt – or maybe by grabbing the ball, doing a Superman jump, and hurling himself downfield with it in his arms, the two of them spinning, spinning … landing softly, SMACKING ball into the hands of a waiting Shiancoe, Berrian or Rice (not Wade, he’d drop it), in a velvet-lined endzone.
I may hate the Vikes as a team, but I gotta say, I wouldn’t mind talking football – or just watching from the sidelines – Jake Leber, Steve Hutchinson, Adrian Peterson, Kevin Williams.)

Does anyone else find it interesting that Speilman is in love with the only jewish QB in the league? He seems to have an unreasonable amount of faith in him considering this was the second time he has traded for him and the third time he’s tried. Not saying Rosenfels is bad, I think he’s a much better option than Jackson, just saying it seems odd that nobody has brought this up. It is sort of like when Green was the coach and the Vikings always had a project QB who was black. Nothing wrong with black QBs it just becomes obvious that is what you are looking for when there are about 12 (or a relatively small number) in the league at any given time and you have or had most of them. You never see these things in the media and you probably wont even be allowed to read this

Can’t stand T.O.’s run-on mouth, but when he offers me the popcorn – yeah, that WAS a great line – when he’s out there playing, he’s always worth watching – can’t wait for the game tonite.
    It’s FOOTBALL SEASON – yeeaaayyy!!!!

  25. Bearfan54 says: Aug 9, 2009 12:21 PM

    @Nathan Explosion
Get a grip of your thong man. The Bears unknowns will make your receivers look like rookies. After Bobby muffs a few punts you’ll see.

  26. MobleV says: Aug 9, 2009 12:22 PM

    GB3Pack4 -
When did the Vikes sign Jake Leber? Is that Ben Leber’s twin brother?
Why don’t you go back to your little shanty in the woods and use your new converter box you bought (With your govt. Approved coupon) and watch your 7-9 Packers try to implement a 3-4 defense all while snacking on a block of colby jack cheese…..
Get your ducks into a row before you make a post you damn Sconnie! Wait, it is 11:20AM on a Sunday, your probably already drunk!

  27. danlinker says: Aug 9, 2009 12:25 PM

Without Favre, there is no qb there. It is that simple.

  28. JimmySmith says: Aug 9, 2009 12:28 PM

What difference does it really make, T Joke vs Sage? Neither one is even average. Neither is Bobby Wade for that matter but what else is new, the Vikings are forever signing other team’s cast offs or overpaying for them as they did in the case of Berriman.
I think the Viking’s management looked at the Raven’s Superbowl winning team of a few years ago and drew the conclusion, they didn’t need a QB, they could get by with just their defense.
Mistake is that they didn’t take into account that half their D line will be suspended for the first four games, the Ravens actually had a very good secondary and the Vikings are about avearge in that department and that was before they booted Sharper to the curb, and the Ravens head coach knew how to make in game adjustments, and there is no evidence that Klink can do that.
In other words, just another mistake by the Vikings and another year of sitting home and watching the playoffs. At least they wouldn’t have to beg their fan base to buy a playoff ticket this year,

If you like football comedy there is no better place to get it than the vikings.
Leadership comes from some minor WR and it is bad leadership at that.
With no more Pro Bowlers like Matt Birk or Darren Sharper to provide leadership and speak to the media, a third teamer like Wade becomes spokesperson.
There is a reason he no longer is with the Titans or the Bears.
    Just enjoy the comedy.

if the spielmans (rick and chris) are jewish, they dont seem to trumpet it. chris played the game the way it is meant to be played.
rosenfels apparently is jewish. jay fiedler was too for that matter. fiedler looked promising at one point, but that faded quickly.
rosenfels seemed to outplay schaub in houston in 07 (and some in miami), but not in 08.
i seem to remember denny green a little bit for what ya brought up, but the more obvious practitioner is james “shack” harris, who always always always kept a stable of black and only black QBs in jax. i wouldnt completely rule out detroit for taking a flyer on ookie, as a result.
