On the same day that the Lions lost a veteran lineman to a ruptured Achilles' tendon, they landed one who had been cut just a couple of days ago.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Lions have agreed to terms with Shaun Smith.
It's a one-year, $1 million deal.
Smith was cut Saturday, a day after reportedly clashing with Browns defensive line coach Bryan Cox.
Smith visited the Rams Sunday before heading to Detroit. He was due to visit the Bucs, too, but signed with the Lions.
In Detroit, Smith could help fill a void that was created more than a year ago, when Shaun Rogers was shipped to Cleveland.

What the Lions were able to sign him before the Patriots could? How could that be I thought Belicheat was a genius?
Smashmouth Smith a Detroit Lion..... I like this move.
A player clashed with Bryan Cox? Amazing.
Oh, GAAAWWD! WHAT is that SMELL??!!
Oh. I see.
Just a flaming bag of gameday on the doorstep.
How can you not like the guy that punched Brady Quinn in the face?
Hey Stafford! Get it right! He didnt punch him in the face he whacked him in the melon with a weight!!
Stafford, that's the funniest post I've read on this site in a long time.
I clicked on this story to blast Smith, but you made me see the light.
Lets see here the Browns are 2-0 on making the right moves since mangini took over. Trading Winslow cause he is garbage and always getting hurt and passing up the Diva Crabtree. Smith fits in perfect. He is a terrible DL didnt record a sack all last season and has 2 sacks in his pathetic career.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
