Another Eagle takes a cart ride

In hindsight, Eagles president Joe Banner probably wishes that he hadn’t boasted about the quality of the team’s pre-camp roster, with the fate-tempting qualifier “assuming everyone is healthy and standing at the end.”

The Eagles have since had the most serious and potentially serious injuries of any NFL team.

The latest guy to take a ride on a cart not used for hauling golf clubs?  Receiver Hank Baskett, per Sheil Kapadia of philly.com.

Kapadia has tweeted that Baskett went down with an injury, grabbed his knee, wanted to the tent with trainer Rick Burkholder, and then rode off in the front seat of a cart.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE:  Kapadia has more details at philly.com, but the extent of the injury still isn’t known.

Wonder if Kendra is rethinking at this moment.

  4. killachap says: Aug 11, 2009 10:04 AM

Maybe if he wasn’t too busy parading around with his whore of a wife he could have been in better condition. No, I’m kidding, but how could one resist?

  5. csmith56 says: Aug 11, 2009 10:05 AM

What the hell?! Does Jerry Jones have an Eagles voodoo doll or something?

  6. KingJoe! says: Aug 11, 2009 10:06 AM

The only good news is that Obama hasnt screwed up the healthcare system yet, so these guys can get treatment in a reasonable amount of time.
Soon though, these guys will be waiting with the rest of us in a government run clinic for 4 hours just to get a check up.
Eagles are deep at most positions, so thanks Joe Banner for keeping the train rolling.

    IS THIS A JOKE?

  9. Johnabis says: Aug 11, 2009 10:07 AM

It’s not as big of a deal as you would think. Baskett or Reggie Brown would have probably been cut anyways.. The way I see it we only lost 1 starter so far (not including Andrews since we don’t know what is going on with him)

  10. birdsmole says: Aug 11, 2009 10:09 AM

He is fine…Eagles website just reported he walked off and the injury doesnt appear to be serious. He probably just banged knees.
9:46 AM – Wide Receiver Hank Baskett just came up hobbled during 7-on-7 drills favoring his left leg, but he walked off the field under his own power and looks like he’ll be rejoining practice.

Oh just another ACL tear probably. Whats Next? or should I say Who’s Next? Watch Andy Reid tear his Jaw muscle on a piece of Turkey Jerky. Hahah, this is rediculous, as is my post…
Go Birds!!!! I think they are gonna be all beat up for the first couple games (As they always are) and as they start to get healthier, they’ll start really turning it on, and go into the Post Season, on fire. Thats what i’m hoping…

  13. Moose Skyway says: Aug 11, 2009 10:10 AM

Whatever, he still has Kendra and I don’t.

Calm down people. It seems that anytime someone falls down they bring out the cart. THey must be paying the cart guys by the ride.

  15. The Coop says: Aug 11, 2009 10:12 AM

  18. LiveNBreatheFootball says: Aug 11, 2009 10:14 AM

Well, he has a playboy wife to nurse him through his pain.
As a Dallas fan, all I can say is: I hope the Eagles players take all the time they need to return the field healthy. No need to rush back.

  19. Bill In DC says: Aug 11, 2009 10:17 AM

Wow, I think they need to cancel camp. At this rate there isn’t going to be anyone left to play in the regular season.
What the heck are they doing or is it just luck of the draw?

  20. maddenchamp610 says: Aug 11, 2009 10:19 AM

hey Eagles fans across the country who cant be at practice to see these events for yourselves……what a gross job of blowing stuff out of proportion lol…..if you would read these posts about the eagle injuries you would think it was the end of the world but just remember you cant believe everything you read……Kolb and Cole are FINE….Nagy was signed to keep the flow going from a qb standpoint….and baskett just kinda hobbled off the field….. hey Mr.Florio!!!!! maybe you should note in these posts that EVERY player who needs not only injury help but any kind of attention thats premature to the end of practice gets a ride in the Lehigh campus golf carts!…lol, you guys make it sound like they’re rolling out the meat wagon for these guys when its a simple matter of would you rather walk to the locker room or get a ride on a golf cart….wtf talk about leading people on! And yes, i’ve been at EVERY A.M. practice this year and many of the afternoon session also so i know what im talking about, it would take a complete moron to see what happens in front of their own eyes and then report it 150 x worse then it really is. I love ya’ Florio but i feel like your puttin the keibash on my guys with these posts….they’re athletes competing in 95 degree weather and top humidity 2x a day you and i both know people are gonna get bumps along the road but call it how it is, dont leave Eagles fans on the westcoast thinkin that were droppin like flies cuz we’re NOT!!!!!!!

  21. Yak says: Aug 11, 2009 10:19 AM

Gee, too bad for Baskett. Now he will have to stay home with Kendra and see her naked all the time, ya, poor Baskett…..

  22. Cleveland Sucks aka Philly Sewer Rat says: Aug 11, 2009 10:21 AM

This couldn’t happen to a better team! They are dropping like flies! PHILLY SUCKS!!!

  23. ASS-MAN says: Aug 11, 2009 10:21 AM

Just to let you know Florio, The Eagles Fans are now referring to it as “Camp Catastrophe”… For future references.

  24. AmhaTek says: Aug 11, 2009 10:24 AM

if you can’t overcome adversity you dont deserve a SB, everone outside of philly is more worried then we are, well i’l speak for myself then I am, sht happens in the league you cant stop and cry for every injury, you doom-and-gloom guys are gonna give yourself a heart attack, take it ez

  25. kdub says: Aug 11, 2009 10:27 AM

    From philadelphiaeagles.com:
Wide Receiver Hank Baskett just came up hobbled during 7-on-7 drills favoring his left leg, but he walked off the field under his own power. The trainers are giving him a look right now, but it doesn’t appear to be serious

  26. kdub says: Aug 11, 2009 10:29 AM

Hank is reported to be on the bubble for making this team anyway. He hasn’t done too much to separate himself in camp (maybe distracted by his wife’s reality show?). They’re pretty high on Gibson and aren’t going to carry 7 receivers into the season.

  27. ggmans662 says: Aug 11, 2009 10:32 AM

I’m surprised that “Arlen Specter” hasn’t asked the Senate to launch a taxpayer investigation into why these injuries are happening to the Eagles. I’m sure that in his twisted mind that he feels that the Patriots are to blame.

  28. VoxVeritas says: Aug 11, 2009 10:33 AM

    I blame Kendra.

  29. umcouldbe says: Aug 11, 2009 10:33 AM

Don’t worry. Kendra will suck the poison out.

  30. Cleg says: Aug 11, 2009 10:34 AM

It’s Hank Baskett – what has he done other than marry Hugh Hefner’s seconds. First, he is a 5th receiver, second, ick.

  31. BlacknBlue says: Aug 11, 2009 10:36 AM

it seems like training camp has had an increase in injuries, across the board. maybe it’s an increase in reporting, or use of twitter and texting like in this case. or maybe it’s been about average and it just feels like a lot more

  32. straverse says: Aug 11, 2009 10:39 AM

Sucks for Baskett, but good for Maclin and Brandon Gibson to get more work. Just hope its not serious.

  33. PhillyHouse says: Aug 11, 2009 10:42 AM

The only injury that concerns me is Stewart Bradley. All the other “injuries” won’t affect the team that much. I can’t wait to go to Charlotte to see the Eagles whoop up on Delhomme.

  34. superfan99 says: Aug 11, 2009 10:48 AM

Wow, these injury reports are a little bit overblown.
This just in — at 11 o’clock p.m. last night, Donovan McNabb layed on his bed, closed his eyes, and lapsed into about an 8 hour coma.
The effects of the coma are still unknown.

  35. wydok says: Aug 11, 2009 11:05 AM

This is going to sound weird seeing how the team was a few years ago, but the Eagles are so deep at WR that even if this was season-ending, it’s no big deal.

  36. owensaws says: Aug 11, 2009 11:11 AM

News flash – the distance between the training room and the field is too far to walk so you must take a cart. This just in Mcnabb was just carted off because he had to take a poop in the locker room.

  37. KingJoe! says: Aug 11, 2009 11:15 AM

oh I see okay to be critical of Arlen Spector, but god forbid criticize Obama, and the ridiculous socialize medicine plan he proposes. Dont sensor, educate.

    maddenchamp610 & Superfan99:
Thank you for keeping everything in perspective! I’m dying in Hotlanta and when I keep reading “the sky is falling” it’s making me f’ing crazy! I can’t see it and all I got is the TMZ rumors from Florio!
Come on Florio, don’t ruin sports for the guys! Keep the chick shit rumors off the site and report the “real” developments…..
Guess I’ll get back to my biscuits and gravy now……

  40. SuperNintendoChalmers says: Aug 11, 2009 11:23 AM

Hahaha good one, superfan99. These injury reports are overblown and I’m glad to see at least some Philadelphia fans recognizing that fact.

  41. bishop23 says: Aug 11, 2009 11:24 AM

Hank Baskett is not a good wr who cares

  42. FinFan says: Aug 11, 2009 11:34 AM

Well at least he can stay home and bang his playmate wife

  43. mustbechris says: Aug 11, 2009 11:35 AM

    so? it’s just hank baskett.

  44. mustbechris says: Aug 11, 2009 11:36 AM

The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reports that official word is that Hank Baskett hyperextended his right knee.
oh, thank god, our season is saved. hank baskett just hyperextended it. SUPERBOWL!

  45. jbruder02 says: Aug 11, 2009 11:41 AM

Who cares if a 5th WR on a mediocre team gets hurt?

  46. Jintsbowl says: Aug 11, 2009 11:43 AM

The injuries may not be that bad, but the reason they are reported is because it seems to happening at an alarming rate to the Philly squad.
I don’t think anyone is saying your team will go 0-16 now, just that it sucks that all these players are getting banged up.
No need to be so defensive, but hell, thats the Philly way.

  47. mikeysoundtrack says: Aug 11, 2009 11:47 AM

“Wide receiver Hank Baskett left Tuesday morning’s practice early with a hyperextended right knee. He is listed as day-to-day.”~Mush Mouth…i mean Chris McPherson

  48. PatrickD29 says: Aug 11, 2009 11:53 AM

  49. kovvboyzfan says: Aug 11, 2009 11:54 AM

thats what he gets for marrying that idiot, Kendra.

  50. VoxVeritas says: Aug 11, 2009 11:59 AM

“the distance between the training room and the field is too far to walk so you must take a cart.”
So it’s like a mile or more away?

  51. Kidekk says: Aug 11, 2009 12:28 PM

The reporter should change their first name to “Wi.”
I’m surprised no one’s said it yet.

  52. Kevin from Philly says: Aug 11, 2009 12:50 PM

Yeah, the good news is that he gets to look at Kendra. The bad news is he now has to listen to Kendra.

  53. JohnnyH says: Aug 11, 2009 12:58 PM

Let the media keep blowing everything out of proportion so the Eagles will be underestimated. They have depth. The season is not over before it begins. That being said, I hope no one gets hurt on the bus ride from Lehigh to the Linc on Thursday.

  54. Nard100 says: Aug 11, 2009 1:22 PM

Superfan99 – ROTFL – That was precious. But seriously, when McNabb faces the new and improved passrush, he may end up in a coma. Go Giants!

  55. Poopdollar says: Aug 11, 2009 1:35 PM

Last I checked – football is a collision sport – IT HAPPENS!! None of these are serious – people just get banged up. At least we aren’t in the Cowboys cupcake camp with Wade Phillips – having a catch with the mascot ‘ROWDY.’

  56. troll_aikman8 says: Aug 11, 2009 2:19 PM

The Cowboys are hitting two a day and no significant injuries yet. The Eagles, and Philadelphia in general, are cursed.
    Deservedly so.

  57. BleedGreen says: Aug 11, 2009 2:30 PM

The SMS I got said its a hyperextended knee, and nothing serious.

  58. Jackal138 says: Aug 11, 2009 2:43 PM

“This just in — at 11 o’clock p.m. last night, Donovan McNabb layed on his bed, closed his eyes, and lapsed into about an 8 hour coma.
The effects of the coma are still unknown.”
Hahaha, good one. It seems like that’s the extent of Eagles injury reporting nowadays. I think the national media’s trying to cover their asses if the Birds don’t make a deep preseason run – “Well, although we picked them to top the NFC East, how could we have known that HANK BASKETT would bruise his knee? HOW COULD WE HAVE KNOWN!?

  59. Jackal138 says: Aug 11, 2009 2:46 PM

The haters are out in full force today. Love us, hate us, or fear us… you’re still logging on and talking about us.
Note how the Lions posts get barely any comments, and yet even Eagles non-stories get over 50. Hahahaha, suck it trolls!

  60. Poopdollar says: Aug 11, 2009 3:00 PM

Correction. Cowboys camp is no where near the Eagles, and they will be the first to admit it. Even with our injuries…
You, troll_aikman8, and the rest of you cockaroaches are still considered ‘6’
I believe that you can address me as ’44’
Thank you for your time – now go run a lap

  61. antneejay2 says: Aug 11, 2009 4:30 PM
