Of all my pet peeves in sports nothing infuriates me more than ignorant Steelers fans who call the Patriots cheaters over dumb videogate.
In fact If there was ever a franchise in the history of sports that cheated its way to championships it was a the 70′s Pittsburg Steelers. They did enough Steroids to make it so half the team ended up dead or sick by the time they were 60. And oh by the way one of the Steelers team doctors was recently fired because he bought 150,000 dollars in HGH and that is conventiently forgotten about or ignored by these losers. And yes I do work in medicine and there is no accepted indication for the use of HGH for repair of tendon injuries in elderly people that I know of.
Meanwhile Jimmy Johnson, Mike Shanahan , Brian Billick ESPN Scouts Inc and anyone else with a brain have all said what is obvious: what the Patriots did was widespread and functionally irrelevant.
I respect the Steelers as a franchise but if there was ever a team that cheated its way to a dynasty it was them in the 1970s. I don’t seehow a rational person can look at the data and say recording signals from the sideline is a much of an advantage when it is legal to record the same information from other locations in the stadium. They call that cheating, while glossing over the rampant steroid use and possible HGH use there own team engaged in.
Mind boggling!

The only “restructuring” Tom Brady has ever done is the same as the restructuring other players around the league have done: taking bonus money to make the cap number for that year smaller.
As for the inevitable argument that Brady is underpaid, it’s true that he’s due for a new contract and will get it next offseason after Rivers gets his in the fall. When Brady signed his current deal, though, it made him the third highest paid QB in the league at the time, which was about in line with what he was at the time.

Where does this blurb give any kind of indication that Florio thinks anyone on the Pats is a genius? It is pretty much a straight forward reporting of what was said. Some people want to hate the Pats so much that if you say anything short of hating them also, you automatically love them. There was absolutely zero opinion in this piece.

The Raiders and the Lions are probably the only teams NOT thinking about this.
What Kraft said makes perfect sense. I’m a Pats fan and have been wondering about all the Patriot player contracts ending after the 2009 season. I thought it might be related to the unknown uncapped season and the unknown yet to be determined league labor situation of the very near future. I read recently that Kraft declined purchasing an English Pro Soccer franchise because he didn’t like the unstructured uncertainty of the labor agreements of that league.
Smart man. What you do know…new contract-wise….could croak you later. Better to know the details of the new deal before committing all of your assets blindly in advance.

Additionally, Pats players (including and ESPECIALLY Tom Brady) have continually agreed to restructure their contracts in order to make room for more/better talent on the roster.
The Patriots conduct themselves as a team, which is one reason I really admire the organization. They’re the definition of team. It’s why they’ve been so successful.
And I’m not a Patriots fan, I’m a Chiefs fan by the way.

Kraft is a pretty powerful guy in the NFL. If he’s not planning past 2010 then there is nothing currently planned for anything past 2010.
Take that for what it’s worth. And hope the UFL expands to enough teams so that we all have some pro football league to watch.
And since the world is supposed to end in 2012, allegedly, the 2011 Super Bowl may be that last. Doesn’t sound good to me.

It’s not secret that Peter King has been a Patriots-homer for years….
lol @ that comment. Patriots fans universally detest Peter King, in spite of King’s love for the Red Sox. King is no Patriots homer. King was almost as ignorant as ESPN in his coverage of video gate (yeah, we know the ESPN jackass Bill Simmons is a Pats homer); and Pats fans will never forgive ESPN or King’s ignorance for their coverage during that episode.

Any long-standing reader of the site should remember that Florio blasted Ralph pretty good for voting against the CBA. Mr. Wilson said that “he didn’t understand it” and “45 minutes was not enough time to think about it” which led to Florio and others insulting his age and intelligence. Furthermore, Mr. Florio refused to believe that others thought the CBA was a bad deal right up until the owners voted 32-0 to opt out of it. In Fall 2007, Tom Bowlen, owner of the Broncos, said “It’s no secret that we all feel the CBA was a bad deal” and Florio sarcastically said that only Bowlen, Brown, and Wilson would agree to that.
It also appears that the closer Mr. Florio works with Peter King, the more he sucks up to both Mr. King and the Patriots. It’s not secret that Peter King has been a Patriots-homer for years. In fact, when he went to Ravens camp in 2005, Ozzie Newsome asked him if he got permission from the patriots before coming.

Would be a worst possible solution. That concept was tried in baseball and failed utterly. The MLB owners in the small markets were supposed to use luxury tax money on players to help make their teams competetive. Instead they have pocketed virtually every last dime and not spent it on players.

My guess would be that Kraft knows he can do cheaper deals or deals with better language for teams after the new CBA is signed.
So why get yourself locked into contracts under the current CBA that isn’t as owner friendly?

Actually the Pats have been accused of not rewarding their best players for years, you know that’s a fact. This sounds like nothing more than posturing to me. Lets just keep everything as vague as possible. If there is a player lockout, when will it happen? IMO, that seems to be the direction they are headed in.
As for a luxury tax? I don’t see that ever happening. Aren’t the large market owners the most powerful owners? Why would they want a luxury tax? I would thing those teams wouldn’t want a salary cap or a luxury tax.
So if there is a lockout, what will you guys cover then? Tiddly Winks competitions?
