On Monday, word emerged that Bucs receiver Antonio Bryant needs knee surgery.
On Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN Future reported on his Twitter page that Bryant has had surgery, and that the team expects him to miss three weeks of action.
Bryant is operating under a one-year franchise tender, which will pay him nearly $10 million guaranteed for 2009.
Yeah, good luck with that…that’s a 4 to 6 week recovery time..not sure where they are getting 3 weeks from..
“That would definitely be a slowed down.”
In 1999 I had surgery on a torn meniscus. Even though it was difficult, I went bow hunting the very next day.
within 3 weeks I couldn’t even tell I had the surgery.
It’s definitely a very minor surgery and recovery.
Bryant’s agent said his squeeze, er, client, would be back on the field in three weeks…
It all depends on the type of injury he had to his meniscus. From the sounds of it, he had an injury that was in a location where it won’t heal (inner region, no blood supply), no matter what kind of treatment they give him. The standard procedure for this is to remove the torn portion of meniscus. Recovery on this can be as little as 2 weeks for the average athlete, let alone a professional football player.
If the injury is in a location where the meniscus can heal itself (outer region, sufficient blood supply) and it is a clean tear, the standard procedure is to suture the meniscus together and let it heal. This would be the 4-6 week recovery time.
