Former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy told ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike In The Morning on Tuesday regarding quarterback Mike Vick’s NFL future: “I think something’s gonna happen this week.”
Though Dungy now seems to be indicating that it’s merely a hunch on his part, he has reiterated the prediction a day after first making it.
“He’s talked to a lot of people, and I don’t know why I say this, but I think something will happen this week,” Dungy told the Associated Press on Wednesday. “All you need is that one team. That is our prayer – that he finds that one team and that he finds the best opportunity to make it work.”
Dungy concedes that, due to the circumstances surrounding Vick, the list of suitors is not lengthy.
“It’s a complex issue,” Dungy said. “You have to get past the possible reaction of fans, and it has to be a team that has an opening and has [salary] cap room. I think Indianapolis would be a great place for him to develop as a person, but he’s not a fit with that offense. It’s going to be a lot like that.”
We’ve heard (and Mark Maske of the Washington Post has reported) that five teams are interested in Vick. (Actually, Maske wrote that “at least” five teams are interested, which implied that there could be more.) Still, the interested teams continue to pursue the matter secretly, possibly because not everyone on the payroll is on the same page.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people and a bunch of coaches who have said ‘If it was up to me, we’d pursue it,’” Dungy said. “But this organization can’t pursue it. That’s how it’s going to be.”
Dungy’s explanation for Vick’s status strikes us as far more reasonable and accurate than the recent suggestion from Jesse Jackson, as published by the New York Times, that NFL teams were colluding against Vick.
Maybe William Rhoden should have interviewed Dungy instead.
Dungy is pathetic! All that guilt. He needs counseling.
“recent suggestion from Jesse Jackson, as published by the New York Times, that NFL teams were colluding against Vick”.
Can Al Sharpton be far behind??
Is Dungy Vick’s new agent or something? What’s with the bromance here?
I find it amazing and frankly, hypocritical, that Dungy can find it in his Christian heart to forgive, and endorse, a person who killed innocent, defenseless animals but his stance on homosexuality won’t budge.
I used to have respect for Tony Dungy. He coached one of the best QBs to play in the NFL and now he is shilling for an average at best dog killer. How is it that he thinks Mike Vick is a good QB?
A true WTF situation
Where is Dungy’s love for Matt Jones?
Dingy Dungy will say whatever makes his client look good.
Dingy Dungy needs to just go away.
Haters…LMAO! AWM’s you need to form a counseling group.
Thanks FLO, we really needed this.
Take this Favre wanna be Saga and
shove it up Vicks Ass.
Lately it seems like all that is goin on around here is Vick this, Vick that and Eagles this, Eagles that… Take it easy on the Birds. and Take Vick out of the equation, cause he is going to be lickin up scraps just like his old dogs in the Kennel…
“I think Indianapolis would be a great place for him to develop as a person, but he’s not a fit with that offense. It’s going to be a lot like that.”
How would he not be a fit? If Manning went down with an injury, I would put Vick in that system and let him have at it.
Wrathchild – Tony Dungy agreed to “mentor” Vick (though nobody is entirely sure what mentoring Tony does other than to tell teams how he’s a changed man).
I’ve lost alot of respect for Dungy…I have no problem with Vick playing again, but I get the feeling that Dungy is using false hype and is exerting too much influence trying to get teams to sign him. I don’t believe Tony when he says Vick will get signed this week, I think it’s just a pathetic attempt to build interest in him by making franchises think that if they don’t do something soon, Vick will be signing with another team.
Once Vick gets signed, if he does………What will this site post?…….Are we going back to the Favre crap?………You have exausted every team with the Vick signing ……….and when or if he does, you can say………as written here, way before ESPN……Which basically is all this is about………
Before the PETA people get on here I just want to say that Tony Dungy is a class act and a man of God. If you haven’t read his book “Quiet Strength” do yourself a favor and read it.
Dungy is holding Vick’s hand trying to get him on a team but here’s what he said about Cutler:
We’ll see about his maturity level. That’s what I would question. And some of the things that happened leading to him leaving Denver … that would concern me as a head coach.
So you’d question Cutler’s maturity but a team should give Vick another chance? OK.

————————————
you my friend are incredibly stupid….I think you need counseling….but anyway, I would welcome him into Indy with open arms….he’s going to get the league minimum, why not take a shot with him….he’s extremely versatile and can/will do whatever you ask him…
My GAYdar just went on full alert! There is no way Dungy is doing all this for nothing. Did a prison romance blossom between Vick and Dungy?
@ Hillbilly Coach… you’re right on the money dude. Dungy is a mental mess who masks his own issues by attempting to “save” others. It’s a fascinating form of cowardice from a man who made a career out of coaching tough guys.
Go spend some time with your kids that are still alive, Dungy. I really don’t mean that as a slight or a joke. I really just mean it.
Steve Czaban of Fox Sports radio made the best point I’ve heard recently, regarding the Michael Vick potential signing.
He said there is “no way” a team will sign Vick “before” that 60 Minutes piece airs Sunday. That teams will want to see how Vick comes off in the piece.
Excellent point. Don’t know if anyone else has said that, but that was the first time I heard that take.
So therefore, no signing this week.
Have any of u considered that people, different, people keep asking so he reiterates what he has already said? Should he change his story?
Dungy is a good guy cut him some slack….
Screw vick tho
Wrath-Tony Dungy is Vick’s mentor, it’s his ‘job’ to look after him.
Hey, don’t knock on Dungy – he is one of the few gentlemen who are left in this league (well, OK, he’s retired now, but ye catch on what I mean).
He’s a motivator, a bona fide good person whom I have never seen anything negative published about his character, and really believes in people. So if he’s promoting Vick, it’s because he believes in him.
Now, on the other hand and Vick is only taking him for a ride (something I find very plausible seeing that he’s extremely good at lying – he even believes them himself…), well, that’s another matter…
Dungy is Vick’s pimp.
Roger Goodell commissioned Dungy for this role to sell Vick to the fans. Only problem is, Dungy is unable to sell vick to an NFL owner.
Roger, Roger, Roger! When will the NFL adopt clear lines for discipline? What do you owe Michael Vick that you don’t owe the fans who pay your inflated salary? Maybe you should just order a team to take him. Fine them every day Vick’s not on the field.
Idiot!
Jackson sees collusion where a reasonable person sees a guy that pissed away his fame and fortune. Jesse Jackson, who speaks of things like common ground and hymies, is better left ignored.

Dawn: you pegged it spot on! Dungy can forgive & shill for a convicted felon & serial animal killer but if Vick were homosexual, he’d be on his own…or would he be…
This whole Dungy thing is: Priceless
Dungy isn’t Vick’s agent, he’s supposedly his “mentor.” Comes across as more of a cheerleader/agent, though.
Tony Dungy belongs on a shrink’s couch, not imparting his “wisdom” to thugs. Praying for a team to sign Vick? Yeah, I’m sure God’s got the puppy pounder on speed dial. GMAB.
He’s talked to a lot of people, and I don’t know why I say this, but I think something will happen this week,” Dungy told the Associated Press on Wednesday. WTF???????? Aside from Al Davis, who is gonna sign this guy without having an intense workout and physical first? Most of us are just assuming he is in shape and still fast after two years away from the game and being older….. Some of these articles and quotes make it sound like he will be signed in the next 5 minutes.
F@&$ Vick.
dungy…go to prisons if you want to save people….but no, you have to stand behind a black man…like it was said earlier, what about matt jones?
How come none of the these so called reporters ask Dungy about the youtube video. Why don’t they ask him about Vick putting all the blame on people around him at a summer camp? Do you think James Brown will ask these questions? The American public isn’t stupid. We know what Vick’s been up to, even if ESPN and CBS won’t report it. He’s no different now than he was before prison. I hope he ends up in the NFC south so the Falcons can break him.
If the Raiders weren’t already so deep in situational players, Oakland would be a great place for Vick to land. They’re a universally hated club, and PETA doesn’t have the stones to unfurl banners in that stadium, and Davis doesn’t really give a shit what you or Toni Dungy have to say, anyway. But Crazy Al would not sign Vick sight unseen, and is not among most of you just assuming that he is still is shape and has full control of his sphincter. I must say, however, puppy pounder is a great nickname.

That’s EXACTLY what’s happening. Nice try Dingy. Looks like there aren’t any suckers falling for it.
Joe6pk, I beg to differ, the american public is stupid
i hope dungy rots in hell! this guy is a freaking evil man, when the Colts win the Bowl he makes the team pray?? now he is trying this god crap to save Vick, this is disgusting and forcing views down peoples throats……What about people like me, the church single handedly ruined my life….So screw Dungy and screw Vick, we don’t need god to know what Vick did is disgusting and I don’t need Dungy’s crap from church being forced downed peoples throats only to have hte church ruin them as well……….
You people are ridiculous!!!!! Homosexuality is an abomination in the bible, killing animals is not.. Humans are the dominant life forms on planet earth, and in the bible. Homosexuality should not be excused because in GOD’s eyes, he created Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve.. Leave Vick alone, you people are just as worthless as the dogs he killed!!!!!! PitBulls were bred for fighting and entertainment, do your research on the breed.. I am a avid dog lover, but where are PETA, and these so-called animal rights activist when a innocent Pit Bull rips a baby’s throat out, out attacks a innocent child.. You people disgust me with your BS comments about Vick.. Leave the Man alone and let him live his life..
@Mrjumpman23
you just get dumber and dumber!
Pitbulls were not originally bred for fighting, do your research first idiot!
The American Pit Bull Terrier is the product of interbreeding between bulldogs and terriers to produce a dog that combined the gameness of the terrier with the strength and athleticism of the bulldog. These dogs were initially bred in England, Ireland, and Scotland, and arrived in the United States with immigrants from these countries. In the United States these dogs were used as catch dogs for semi-wild cattle and hogs, to hunt, to drive livestock, and as family companions.
and whene PETA is during these attacks is actually in the courts sueing hte owners for lack of control and putting the dogs down for being aggressive dogs……..
stupid, stupid, stupid!
Homosexuality also may be an abomination but so is sex before marriage and I am sure Vick did that by committing adultery and spreading HERPES!!!!!
STUPID! jumpman, knowledge is not for you, do your research
MrJumpman23,
Vick has been living his life! How do you think he arrived in this situation?
Guess I don’t pray to the same god as you. You gonna start killing gays?
Those “worthless dogs” as you put it were placed here by the same hand that molded your ignorant being. Makes you kinda worthless, huh?
Maybe Dungy has some racism in him. Check his past. Just sayin’.
And that’s not just some shot at the guy. I held this man in very high regards for a long time. I thought he was a great coach whether defense or head coach etc…. but when you scratch the surface…….
Well, you decide.
is vick gonna run for vice president on saras ticket if this dont work dungy
So if Vick isn’t signed by the end of the week does that make Tony Dungy a liar as well as a moron?
I have plenty of respect for Dungy for what he has done as a coach and for what he has gone through as a person and a father, but this whole Michael Vick thing just makes him come across as sanctimonious to me. I see alot of people who have posted do not like him at all, and that is fine. I am okay with him, but just don’t feel convinced that he is doing this only in the best interest of someone else. I don’t think Vick cares what anyone thinks, and it is only a matter of time till he shoots himself in the foot, then Dungy will look totally ineffective.
How would he not be a fit? If Manning went down with an injury, I would put Vick in that system and let him have at it…
Vick would not be a fit in Indy because that offense needs an accurate pocket passer; something we all know Vick has never been and will never be.
And, to a few of the other posters here, I’m glad to see I am not the only one tiring of the hypocrisy of the homophobic Dungy.
Dungy can suck my Vick!
Why can’t Jesse Jackson realize that not everytime a black man is turned down for something it is racial? Maybe NFL teams are smart and realize Vick is scum who still hasn’t taken full responsibility for his actions and could be a cancer to their organization? I want to see Jesse Jackson stand up for a white man when it happens to one. Oh wait he racist and doesn’t care about everyone, just one color of people. Looks like his predecessor MLK had no impact on Jackson because he only looks at color, despite MLK preaching that color should never matter!
You all are funny. Your comments reflect what America has become as a nation. It shows a major reason why we’re declining so fast as a country. Two much Double-standardness, Ignorance, Hypocrisy, and flat-out hate (racist, religious, etc)

Forgiveness and Agreement are two TOTALLY separate words with two TOTALLY MEANINGS. You don’t have to agree to forgive. Dungy never said he didn’t forgive, or had something against homosexuality, he just doesn’t agree with it. He also doesn’t agree with what Vick did, but it doesn’t determine forgiveness for it.
Hillbilly Coach (and a few others) say:
Dungy is pathetic! All that guilt. He needs counseling. –
So because he’s helping someone that he was asked to help, O, it MUST mean that he’s hiding his own guilt. Baseless, nothing to support this. Just hating for the sake of hating.

Have you ever paid attention to what Media is, HE’S ASKED to come on these shows and give his OPINIONS. Vick is a major story (whether you like it/agree wit it or not), and he’s close to the major story.

Here’s a racist view “A Black Man”. Well for ur info, there are over a million more in Prison, so that don’t make sense. And what about Matt Jones? Did Goddell ask Dungy to mentor him? So does that make him racist/pregidous also?

My man, you just need JESUS! And Dungy doesn’t Make the team pray, they all pray together. If they didn’t choose to, they wouldn’t be benched or cut. Understand, this country was built off of Christian, and even if choose not to believe in God, he still exists, and more people than not understand and agree with that. There’s nothing that’s been done to ruin ur life by any man that God can’t fix.

I understand where u want to come from, but horrible angle and display. First off, please do ur real research about where Pit Bulls come from, and yes the bible does talk about killing animals as being wrong, unless it’s for food or Godly sacrifice. Please go read it again a few more times.

@ dalex1010
this country actually was built on religious freedom, that is why all the irish came here to get away from having religious views forced down their throats and murdered for them.
however a lot of people came with their religious views and the original idea of coming to america for religious freedom failed completely.
that is actually the truth, just study the history…..
also the Chrismas tree just so you know, was actually originally from a pagan ceremony where the pagans would hang fruit and meet on trees as a sacrifice asking their god for a good harvest before winter
