Eagles ink DiMichele as Vick rumors persist

With the contract signed by quarterback/coaching intern Matt Nagy voided by the league office and Kevin Kolb still fresh from a knee injury, the Eagles have signed former Temple quarterback Adam DiMichele.

DiMichele was signed in May 2009 after attending a rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.  He was released on June 11.

Meanwhile, we’re hearing that Nagy’s AFL contract indeed kept him from joining the team, not the fact that the Eagles had him in camp as, in essence, an 81st player on the roster.

Nagy, we’re told, is still under contract with the Columbus Destroyers.  Apparently, the franchise asserted the claim, even though the AFL is now defunct.

Nagy had an opportunity in August 2008 to opt out of his AFL contract, but apparently didn’t.

Then there’s the shadow of Mike Vick, which looms over a handful of franchises.  The Eagles have said they’re not interested, but rumors persist that they’re in the mix for the man who is expected (per coach Tony Dungy) to sign with a new team this week.

I don’t want Vick and his baggage. He’s a detestable human being and more importantly a bad quarterback.

Yes, rumors persist for every team that you speculate about.
Where are they persisting? Who is saying the Eagles? If you are saying that rumors persist because they had a backup QB have a minor injury, fine – say that.

Vick also told them that after accomplishing his goals he “allowed someone who didn’t have my best interests at heart to take all that away from me,”
The Eagles or any other team ought to read the above quote. Still to this day six years of a gangster/ghetto lifestyle was not his fault.

    Vick’s not coming to Philly.

  5. jmill012 says: Aug 12, 2009 8:20 AM

McNabb, Westbrook, DJax and Vick all on the field at the same time! What a dilemma for opposing D coordinators.

Rumors? Only created through your blog. Eagles have 0 interest in Vick. The team doesn’t sign non-character players.

  7. Agame says: Aug 12, 2009 8:25 AM

Please let Philly sign Vick! I would kick PETA’s ass before every game. I love to see them show up at the Lic. This would become routine for me.
(yes I’m one of those fans. ex700 leveler)
I dumbest thing I keep hearing are play claiming that if their team signs Vick they will not watch anymore football. PLEASE. You are just like me. We love this stuff too much. Football is a part of American culture and Vick is not that important to take you away from the thing you love. SO PLEASE…end it and enjoy watching Mike Vick in the new “wild bird” offence.

  8. surefooted says: Aug 12, 2009 8:34 AM

Like it or not, Vick would make the Eagles offense so stupid, it wouldn’t be funny. Reid would figure out how to get the best use out of him. Also, with the trust that Reid has from Lurie, fan backlash wouldn’t really matter.

  9. JeterLeto says: Aug 12, 2009 8:35 AM

It seems like every team is interested in Vick. Cant we just let it go and wait to see who signs him instead of every other post saying this team might sign Vick.

agame – many others are NOT just like you.
Trust me on that one, son.

i wouldnt lump peta in with all other normal people who detest rogue animal abusers.
it will be interesting to see peta protest vick. kind of like putting 2 scorpions in a bottle…
but vick hasnt been punishe legally or otherwise for all he did.
and, it sure sounds like he has what is sometimes called a “locus of control” problem.
he accepts no blame or fault. other people just took what he had?
oh, the dogs killed him? oh, someone else robbed his pension money from a pension fund? ad infinitum.
construction or food service is where this reprobate should land.

From one die hard Eagles fan to another- Please don’t make us all sound like brainless Neanderthals. While PETA is a bit extreme at times, I would support their decision to protest at any stadium this monster plays at. Of course I will still watch football, but if the Eagles sign him I will lose A LOT of respect for the front office and Big Red. He would be the only player I ever wish to be injured (very painfully) no matter who he plays for.
BTW the new stadium is called the Linc, not the Lic.

  13. kdub says: Aug 12, 2009 8:49 AM

Does anyone even know what kind of shape Vick is in? All we hear is rumors of him signing with a new team, but nothing about whether he can even still play football at the pro level! I would bet that he will be unproductive for whatever team he signs with.

I couldn’t agree with you anymore.
This is getting worse then the Favre
Saga. (Thank god thats over with)

  19. Godzilla_01 says: Aug 12, 2009 9:14 AM

Rumors? Not coming from anyone associated with the team. It’s not happening.
Yeah, everyone seems to ignore the fact this guy hasn’t played in over 2 years.

  20. BigBlue10 says: Aug 12, 2009 9:15 AM

Why would the Eagles want Vick? Isn’t one mobile but inaccurate quarterback enough?

  21. dawk20db says: Aug 12, 2009 9:24 AM

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand i’m in the “he’s paid his debt” camp. Give the guy a second chance.
On the other hand I don’t really want to weave my way through PETA at every game. Maybe i’ll set the grill up right next to them. We normally have a nice spread of cheesesteaks, sausages, and burgers.
Hey, if Red thinks it will help i’m with it. (really don’t think it will actually happen.)

  22. sn@ke says: Aug 12, 2009 9:25 AM

I have not seen any other report linking the Eagles to Vick, and as they always emphasize character, I don’t see it happening.
Can you see McNabb being happy leaving the field so Vick can come in and run the Wildcat…..LOL…not going to happen.

  23. ASS-MAN says: Aug 12, 2009 9:26 AM

    KDUB,
Thats a good question that no one has addressed yet. Is everyone assuming he is in tip top shape? Maybe thats why he hasn’t been signed yet. He kinda looks like he beefed up a little bit, probably juicin when he was in the slammer.
I just think its way too high of a risk. The only way I could see signing him, would be, if it was for the veteran minimum, but i’m sure he’ll get more than that. A UFL team already offered him $2 mil for one 6 month season (reportedly)
But all in all, this is just gettin redic with all the Vick talk. Let it play out for gods sake. I don’t know about anyone else, but isn’t this getting to be worse than the Favre Saga?

  24. VoxVeritas says: Aug 12, 2009 9:56 AM

“I have not seen any other report linking the Eagles to Vick, and as they always emphasize character”
You mean like when they drafted a guy that was facing felony charges? Not coindicentally, the same guy that was photographed with a bong, a straw, and some powdery substance on a glass table?

  25. BleedGreenMtState says: Aug 12, 2009 10:03 AM

Eagles sign Vick and I a become a Steelers fan in a hurry.

Nagy had an opportunity in August 2008 to opt out of his AFL contract, but apparently didn’t.”
This still does not make any sense because all AFL contracts have a provision for the player to join “higher up” leagues, like NFL and CFL.

  27. Vet735 says: Aug 12, 2009 10:39 AM

They won’t sign Vick. Lurie doesn’t want that kind of baggage with his Hollywood pals.
I don’t want him either. I think his only use would be as a running back and we don’t need him for that.
Still PETA protests at the Linc and in the tailgate lots would be priceless. UFC 102 – Kenzos vs. Hippies.

  28. nasheagles says: Aug 12, 2009 10:42 AM

if he makes the team better and hes on a week to week contract.. why not.. would rather have him run those wildcat options a few times that risk Djax’s knees…

  29. nasheagles says: Aug 12, 2009 10:45 AM

Why not sign him… to a month to month contract and let him focus on a set formation.. better his knees being risked in the wildcat than D jax

Love that a TU guy gets another chance, even for a few days!

  31. igglesfan74 says: Aug 12, 2009 11:17 AM

NO CHANCE VICKS PLAYS IN PHILLY. Period. Just stop the silliness.
After all the hub-bub last season about McNabb’s future secure, unhappy about the benching, blah blah blah. Do you really think that they are going to bring another popular qb into the mix? after giving Donovan free money to make him happy and answer all the questions about who the qb is? Nope.
Second, the current front office tosses bad character out the door. They don’t want the distraction that comes with this one.
Third, as an Eagles fan, I don’t want that p.o.s. on the roster-especially if he isn’t taking ownership of his mistakes. I would be disappointed but never abandon my team if they bring him on (fan for 33 years) But, I would rather take my chances with Kolb or Feeley down the stretch if something happens. Andy Reid has done “more with less” for all his tenure in Philly and will do it again if it comes to that.
Fourth, doesn’t he have the rep of coach-killer? (guess the whole puppy-murderer thing overshadowed it)

  32. trathavon says: Aug 12, 2009 11:32 AM

give me a break enough of this vick crap…enough of this vick is not a quarter back crap…the Virginia tech and The national football league all say that michael vick is a quarter back…i am sure they know alot more than you couch potatoes…his time and punishment was served for fighting dogs get over it!…..John madden squashes all that talk about Vick not being a Quarterback by saying..no he is not the typical Quarterback he is much better…the game is changing…qb/rb..is better…

  33. wydok says: Aug 12, 2009 2:39 PM

I haven’t heard any credible rumors about Vick to the Eagles.
    It’s a stupid idea.

  34. Jackal138 says: Aug 12, 2009 3:57 PM

PFT posts a speculation – Vick to the Eagles?
And then a few days later goes “There’s speculation that Vick might be coming to the Eagles” — reporting on their own speculation!
This is a page right out of Fox News, guys. Make something up, wait a day, and report on it as if it’s a fact. “Some say” Obama is a socialist facist Muslim demon disguised as a man who wants reeinstate Michael Vick and allow him to rape your children and euthanize your grandmother. That’s what our “sources” tell us, at least.
