Running back Willis McGahee didn’t click too well with the new coaching staff in Baltimore last year, and it resulted in a sharp reduction in his role.
He’s now perched at No. 2 on the depth chart behind Ray Rice, and he’s doing what he needs to do to get back in the good graces of the team.
“I’m a little different, I’m not going to
lie to you,” McGahee told Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times. “I go with
the flow. That’s how you’ve got to be. You can’t go around here moping
about things. You just control what you do, and that’s your own
destiny.”
A year after getting only 170 carries and rushing for only 671 yards (both career lows), McGahee acknowledges his responsibility for that outcome.
“No doubt about it, I know I’m not the
easiest person to learn how to read,” McGahee said. “I send mixed
messages. I’m staying focused on being positive.”
Last year, McGahee showed up at 236 pounds after missing offseason voluntary workouts. This year, he has been fully engaged in preparations for the season.
“I told Willis, ‘I don’t know what the
tape’s going to look like, but I love the way you came to work,’”
offensive coordinator Cam Cameron told Wilson. “And that’s what, to me, is
important. Very seldom have we been around guys that come to work
consistently that don’t eventually pay well. We focus on the
preparation, and I loved his work.”
So while he’s a backup for the first time in a long time, McGahee has a fresh attitude.
“Oh yeah, I’ve been revived,” McGahee said. “It’s a new year. I would rather go along and get along than be on the other side.”
Last year in purple and black bucko.
Funny how a backup role can change the attitude. Baltimore Browns go 7-9.
“Oh yeah, I’ve been revived,” McGahee said. “It’s a new year. I would rather go along and get along than be on the other side.”
It doesn’t matter which side you’re on, Willis. You’re still an injury waiting to happen.
True story, Ryan Clark knocked you out!
McGahee is due to blow up this season. He was great 2 years ago and took a little more time than others to adjust to the new coaching staff.
Ravens 11 – 5 this season. Stop all the McGahee hating…
Doesn’t matter, Willis. Harbaugh’s a former Eagles assistant, and Ray Rice’s similarities to Brian Westbrook automatically give him the upper hand in their running scheme. McGahee’s done.
True story. Ryan Clark was knocked out too!
“Very seldom have we been around guys that come to work consistently that don’t eventually pay well. We focus on the preparation, and I loved his work.”
Way to mess up a quote Florio. I think it is supposed to say “that don’t eventually play well.”
yeah watch out everybody, Ravens are gonna be dangerous… a little jealous smiley? And it’s ok, you can admit that your boyfriend is making you smile right now! hahahahahaha!!! Just wait til Ray cracks ol Retard Mendmyballs other shoulder lol hahahahahaha!!!!! Stealers blow!!! Ravens gonna go all da way baby!!!
He’s playing for his next contract…Of course he’s “rededicated”.
If the cap number wasn’t prohibitive, he would have been cut or traded before the season.
His new team next year will get the real Willis.
Last year with the ravens , better make it look goog
Here is another “player” who can not handle playing with others.. He has personality issues
Yes, if the Ravens were still called the Browns, they probably would be 7-9 since anything associated with Cleveland tends to = loser………
“Very seldom have we been around guys that come to work consistently that don’t eventually pay well.”
So Cam is charging his players now??
Ah, another former Buffalo Bill shipped off to another team that just continues the same crap with another team. I feel for you Ravens fans, at least you have Rice and McClain. McGhee needs to sit down, shut up and except his role as the #2 RB he thinks he is better than he really is.
I’m fully expecting this same thing to be happening to the Eagles late this year or next year with Jason Peters (another former I want out of Buffalo Bill). After he gets comfy and starts his lazy ways once again.
