Reese says Manning deal is "close"

In an interview with WFAN radio, Giants G.M. Jerry Reese said that the team and quarterback Eli Manning are “close” on finalizing his six-year, $97.5 million contract extension.

“We’re close with that,” Reese said, via Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.  “We think it’ll get done sooner
or later.  Just some language issues we’re trying to work through.  We
think it’ll get done.”

Well, duh.

Of course it’s “language issues.”  Given that a written contract is expressed via the use of “language,” the inability to work out a final, binding agreement typically results from different views regarding the proper “language” to be used.

Our semi-educated guess?  Both sides have agreed to use terms like “close” and “language” while they try to figure out something that, through eight days, they have not been able to figure out.

I don’t like eother of these guys so here is a little comparison for the giants fans to think about
    Eli career stats – comp % 55.9 yards 14,623 (rush 215) = total yards 14,838 – tds 98( 3 rushing) = 101 total – ints 74 – QB rating 76.1
    Vick career stats – comp % 53.8 yards 11,505 (rush 3,859) = total yards 15,364 – tds 71(21 rushing) = 92 total – ints 52 – QB rating 75.7.
    Vick 74 games 27 fumbles lost 52INT =
    79 turnovers
    Manning 73 games 14 funbles lost 74INT =
    88 turnovers

Good comparison. One thing to keep in mind as well is how much money Vick made the team as well. Also shows the Giants franchise QB is OK not good.

I would think andy reid’s salary should be garnished and used toward opening jails for people who do heroin and drive and crash and hurt people or for people on heroin and pull guns on family people in road rage situations.

I hope your post does not mean that you think Vick deserves another $100 million contract. Eli is not worthy of that contract, and neither was Vick when he received the monster money (and now Vick’s lucky if he gets veteran minimum). OTOH, I don’t think Eli will piss the money away like Vick.

    Manning
    Super Bowl rings 1
    College Degree 1
Playoff appearances 4/5 (4/4 in years as the starting QB)
Crimes 1 @ Ole Miss underage drinking at the age of 18/19.
    MVP brothers? 1
    Vick
    Super Bowl rings 0
    College Degree 0
    Playoff appearances 2/6
Crimes: Too many to mention but they are well documented.
    POS brothers? 1

“Reese close to confirming wasting the largest amount of money in NFL history”
Fixed that one for ya Florio.

Comparing Vick to Eli only validates the useless nature of the majority of stats that you Fantasy Geeks post, ad nauseum.
“Hello? They play to WIN the game!”

Is it just me or does Florio have complete contempt for everything and everybody in the NFL since he became Mr. NBC? Jeez, you’d think Peter King was eating crackers in their bed again!
He objects to the terms like “close” and “language”? As such a (formerly) big-time and well educated (Go Mountaineers) lawyer, you would think he knows damn well that they are probably talking about interpretations and definitions. In a multi-year, multi million dollar contract I’m guesing that stuff can come back to bite you. See Arrington, Lavar.
Or maybe Florio thinks they’re trying to decide whether to type in up in English or some other LANGUAGE.

Sixburgh, Agreed. Big Ben doesn’t put up the prettiest of stats, and he has 2 rings.

Eli is conducting the biggest theft to take place in New York since they bought Manhattan for a handful of beads.

    Mee-OW Mr. Florio!!
    Wow.
Some say sarcasm is an unimaginative man’s excuse for wit.
    God I sure hope so.
Hell, I don’t even know what sarcasm is.
But, it is possible to get what they’re saying about the language, because we know what the dispute/hold-up is NOT about:
-it’s not about the financial terms/details
    -it’s not about the duration
    -it’s not about the structure
-it’s not about an inability to compromise
    -it’s not about competing agendas
    -it’s not about any restrictions
    In other words, they’ve agreed.
    Just not to the “terms”.

    Ragnar,
But the difference with Ben is his numbers are not BAD, he’s NOT a fantasy stat compiler, but his numbers are that of an elite QB…Eli is a Champion, but his career numbers are just not in the elite class, simply put!

HAHA, good luck with that New Yawk!!…apparently ‘Manning’ = criple your team with a stupid big contract…(at least his big brother deserved it).

What were Patons stats after 5 years?
No one player is worth that much but at least Eli will do good with it the kid and yes he is a kid
Has helped pay for a childrens hospital in Miss
How many of the super star qbs have done that ?
What has Brady done other then nail VS models
What has the Ben done other then drive his head into a car
What has romo done other then go to Mexico
The kid is a class act and he will wind up in the hof
As a fan of the Giants for 50 years I am happy we have Eli instead of the rest of the aholes playing QB today
Remeber Vick got a 100 million and is in debt up to his dog collar
