Reese says Manning deal is “close”

In an interview with WFAN radio, Giants G.M. Jerry Reese said that the team and quarterback Eli Manning are “close” on finalizing his six-year, $97.5 million contract extension.

“We’re close with that,” Reese said, via Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. “We think it’ll get done sooner or later. Just some language issues we’re trying to work through. We think it’ll get done.”

Well, duh.

Of course it’s “language issues.” Given that a written contract is expressed via the use of “language,” the inability to work out a final, binding agreement typically results from different views regarding the proper “language” to be used.

Our semi-educated guess? Both sides have agreed to use terms like “close” and “language” while they try to figure out something that, through eight days, they have not been able to figure out.
