Stallworth addresses his suspension, via Twitter

Browns receiver Donte' Stallworth has responded to the news that he'll be suspended for all of the 2009 season.

And, fittingly, he has shared his views not via a press conference or a statement released to the media, but on Twitter.

"TO ALL MY FAM IN THE LEAGUE: GOD BLESS YALL, STAY HEALTHY, GOOD LUCK THIS SEASON!!!  I'M WATCHIN EVERY F--KIN GAME," Stallworth initially tweeted, sans dashes.

He has since deleted the tweet and replaced it with the same quote, substituting "damn" for the "F" bomb.  (You can confirm it for yourself by entering "D_Stallworth18" at Tweleted.com.)

Apparently, Stallworth has been feeling optimistic about his chances.  In the wee hours of Thursday morning, Stallworth posted this message on his Twitter page:
"NIGHT YALL.... PRAY FOR YA BOY PLZ... I CAN FEEL IT IN THE AIR!!  KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED... TOES TOO (eeeeewww) GOD BLESS."

We know Stallworth is trying to move forward productively, but neither of these tweets harmonize, in our view, with the sense of profound remorse and contrition he previously had cultivated.

What a tool. His ass should be rotting in jail. Well he is still part of the Browns...that is punishment right there.

    GO STEELERS!!!

It's still more remorse than Vick has shown with his "someone took it all away from me" comments.

Vick gets up to 6 games and Stallworth gets a year, when they both either a) had pot in their system or b) failed a drug test. while one set out for nearly a decade at this type of behavior while the other made a bad choice.

Goodell missed the boat by letting Vick back in.

A year for Stallworth is understandable, but only if Vick is banned for life, or still suspended indefinitely.

Stallworth's suspension is fair. I don't like it. He's shown us how men handle bad situations, unlike another QB in the news. He had to be punished though. I hope he makes it back it in 2010.

Really? Really? Stallworth kills a guy, knows that the guy is there and drives over him. And you think Vick is the one who should be out of the league?? I am not condoning dogfighting, but you'd let someone who killed another person back into the league before someone convicted of dogfighting?

It's still more remorse than Vick has shown with his "someone took it all away from me" comments.

Again, really?? Vick got 2 years already.

Put Stallworth in jail for the 15 years he should have received if his lawyer wasn't able to buy his freedom for him and then let's talk about reinstating him. Stallworth didn't just make a bad choice. He ended someone's life. If you really think killing someone should result in a slap on the wrist, then you haven't a clue. Not only should Stallworth not be playing this year, next year or any other year, his ass should be in jail.

  9. egodiligo_pft says: August 13, 2009 12:47 PM

    Stallworth's suspension is fair.

Vick should not have been banned for life and one of the reasons he wasn't is because he did almost 2 years for his crime. Goodell obviously felt that the law did more justice in that case.

And by the way, anyone who thinks Vick's dog fighting issues should prohibit him from ever playing football again is an idiot. And I'm not even a Vick fan.

Hey Florio, why don't you stick to writing and making up stuff about the Browns and leave the judgment of a man to God almighty. I see no conflict with a person being excited with the prospect of getting on with his or her life after such a stressful and extremely unfortunate incident. That excitement does not in any way supersede the remorse and sadness I'm sure Mr. Stallworth will experience for the rest of his life.

I think these players get drunk or stoned, or something late at night, and forget that the whole world can read what they are about to type. These social networking sites can give you the impression that you are talking to your friends, but in reality, even the Facebooks and Myspaces, where people can't see your profile unless you are friends, can put your information out there to the whole world.

I think that Donte is truly remorseful. I just think he was hoping to move past this with a little luck and compassion. Not saying I agree with his optimism, but I think that anyone who's ever been in trouble can relate to the hopes that what you did won't effect your life as bad as it obviously is about to.

With all due respect to animal lovers, Vick harmed and killed just that -- ANIMALS! Stallworth killed a HUMAN BEING!

Animal lovers argue that animal cruelty is especially heinous because animals have no voice (both literally and figuratively) and therefore cannot stand up for their rights or defend their innocent selves against would-be offenders.

In the case of Stallworth, his HUMAN victim was in the exact same postion: helpless, defenseless, innocent.

One could further argue that Vick's animal cruelty was intentional, while Stallworth's manslaughter was not. Just remember, Stallworth's decision to drink and get behind the wheel WAS intentional!

Goodell was right to suspend him for the year.

  13. footballtech says: August 13, 2009 12:53 PM

What the hell are you guys talking about Vick out for life for killing dogs but Stallworth for one year for killing a man a father. Vick was in prison for killing dogs Stallworth was in jail for a month for killing a man a father, you people need to get it right. I'm glad you people aren't in charge because you don't have a clue on what is right and wrong that for sure.

    come on, get real.
Vick is a sick criminal who got involved in something he shldnt have, and he defnintely paid for it. He spent 2 years in a real jail, lost all of his fortune, works a damn construction job now. He deserved it all for killing animals, but murder is a whole different level.
Stallworth murdered someone. He shld be in jail for 10 years like any other DUI murder...the guy basically got off scot-free. He made a joke out of our legal system, and I would have him suspended from the NFL for life. Allowing a murderer to play in the NFL is just not right.
I understand he was drunk and all, but I dont think the victim knows or cares about the difference.

You dumbasses are right, there IS NO COMPARISON:

Stallworth = 1 dumb decision on 1 night (well, morning)

Vick = a LIFETIME of cruel, sadistic, pre-meditated, thuggy scumbag activity that included torturing and mutilating and which also involved pre-meditation, gambling, drugs, and repeated lying

  21. killachap says: August 13, 2009 1:19 PM

Ok wait a minute here. Stallworth hit a man who was jaywalking in a seriously tragic form of events. Do you people really think he didnt try to miss the guy or didnt try to stop? I think there is more to this than any of us will ever know. Yes he took a man's life but clearly it was an accident. And yes he had been drinking but dont sit here and try to act like no one on here has never driven home when they knew that had had one too many. I really think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And let's face it, he is much smarter than the idiot Vick who goes to a rap concert dropping the n-word and talking like he is half retarded with whatever version of english rappers or thugs speak now days.

I don't understand Florio's story about his reaction. There is absolutely no correlation with what he tweeted and what PFT is saying about him.

    He used profane language?

Is that REALLY the issue. I just lost a little respect for Florio. This is the same mindless drivel I get from the normal media. Usually the stories here are less inane, shallow and judgemental. He is obviously remorseful. Vick sure as hell doesn't seem the least bit remorseful to me.

So, Donte Stallworth should never show any excitement ever again? Or is there a required time period? Let's take some time to point out the actions of every criminal in the NFL right now and put it right up there with the "days without arrest meter." You can call it, "the days with contrition meter." It'll always be stuck on zero.

And yes, I think twitter, myspace, facebook is stupid as well. Who gives a crap what you are doing right now or how you are feeling today? It is so pathetic that people need to try to validate their existance and relevance to others.

I'm sorry - did I miss something here?

Vick "Served his time" so he should be let back in the league.

Didn't Stallworth also "serve his time" according to the sentancing handed down to him?

The stupidity of poster's on this site continually amazes me. Most of the time, I don't even want to comment because commenting lends to the fact that you had some sort of a valid point.

Additionally - Vick didn't go to jail for "dog fighting." He went to jail for Conspiracy (For running an INTERSTATE ILLEGAL GAMBLING OPERATION) and Tax Evasion.

Oh, not to mention what he did to the dogs which is known as the criminal offense of animal cruelty which he didn't even get punished for.

Half of you won't even read thjis post because it's probably either too long and your brains will hurt, or, you simply do not possess a 5th grade reader's level which would prevent you from understanding most of the words I'm typing, but let me reiterate:

Vick is a murderer too - he just didn't take human life. He took an animals life - and whether you hold that sacred or not - let's look at the facts. He strangled, drowned, hung, slit the throats of, and electrocuted animals who were defenseless against his psychopathic violence. Any serial killers adolescent behavior ring a bell? Maybe Dahmer, Bundy, Manson perhaps???

Don't get me wrong. I am not sympathetic to Donte Stallworth. He made an EXTREMELY poor decision to drink/get high/get crunk (whatever) and took a man's life. Not just a man, but a father, a husband, and a hard worker earning a living for his family.

The main difference here is twofold - intent, and duration.

I would find it hard for ANYONE to substantiate the fact that Stallworth got in his car after smoking/drinking/whatever and said - hey, I think I'm going to go out and run someone down, and hopefully, I will take their life.

Vick - well, he personally killed, mutilated, and murdered (again - human vs. animal doesn't apply so don't come at me with that bullsh*t).

    As for duration -

Vick spent 6 YEARS running this illegal organization (and btw - the same crimes have kept Pete Rose out of the Baseball H.O.F.).

Stallworth spent about 10 minutes in his car.

Am I biased slightly? Yes - I have a 7 month old sheppard/lab, a 3 year old Lab, and just lost a 12 year old Golden (RIP Kobe). But the facts are quite evident - Vick shows NO remorse and blames his "downfall" on someone else. Look in the mirror you f*cking pu$$y. You were the one that bankrolled this operation and killed those animals.

Stallworth should spend a year out of the league. He should also have been optimistic and hopeful that he might not have to do so.

Vick - should suffer the same fate as his dogs. Sorry - he's more of an animal than they ever were..

Oh - and to those MORON'S who say my comments are racially motivated - Go F*ck yourself - really. Not every opinion is based on race - this clearly has nothing to do with it. In fact... let ME pull the race card...

I think Goodell only gave Vick the suspension he got BECAUSE he's black. If he were WHITE, he would have been banned.

How does that comment strike you? It's not my opinion, just a thought for you race card bearer's to kick around for a second.

Please feel free to comment back, if you were intelligent enough to read all the way through. I'll be checking.

THAT'S because Florio was basically using journalistic ( to use the term loosely ) double talk. He said a lot without any meaning. IE: We know Stallworth is trying to move forward productively, but neither of these tweets harmonize, in our view, with the sense of profound remorse and contrition he previously had cultivated.-------I rest my case!

I am really torn on this suspension. On one hand, he did kill a man, but on the other hand it was an accident.

The Legal system said he paid his time, but now he has to be suspended for a year from his job? If someone else received the same sentence would they be suspended from the job they work? Probably not.

Also, I am not sure what you want Stallworth to do? He was hoping and praying that he got to play, you would do the same thing.

For the people making the comments about what Vick did, WHERE YOU THERE?!?!?! It amazes me how people are so quick to say that he engaged in the actual act of killing of animals as if they witnessed it themselves. Also, don't be so quick to believe everything that you see in the media. Just because they report things or you hear things DOES NOT make it a fact. If you weren't there, YOU DON'T KNOW anything except that he funded the dog fighting. Next, killing anyone or anything is WRONG, but for Stallworth to get a slap on the wrist versus what Vick received is DEAD WRONG. Killing has been a crime for years but we know that people have gotten away with killing human beings for years. For some reason when animals are involved, people want to lose their minds!!!! I don't get it. I really don't.....

First equating Vick to serial killers makes your points seem...dumb. There is no comparison. As a pet owner I would never place the value or life of a pet over a human. I doubt that you would make that argument outside a message board, where to your point most won't read. You'd be labeled as a whack-o (and rightfully so).

Second your allegiance to animals (by your own admission makes you biased), so again your argument can't be equitable.
