Maybe the Broncos should have signed Mike Vick

Kyle Orton has made his debut for the Denver Broncos.

And the only good news is that he’s not playing at home.

Orton has led two drives.  Both ended with interceptions.

One came after Orton took the Broncos inside the San Francisco five.  The second one also came in 49ers’ territory.

Still, two drives.  Two picks.

Where have you gone, Bubby Brister?

You can follow the action at NFL.com’s Game Center.

UPDATE:  Orton is now three for three.  Where have you gone, Craig Morton?

On NFL Network the SanFran guys are wetting their pants at the implosion.
He can NOT throw the ball.

  2. BradyGazelle says: Aug 14, 2009 11:02 PM

Or you can actually see the game on NFL Network – but wait, that’s not NBC…
Too bad pft.com has gone corporate.

  3. BillsFan27 says: Aug 14, 2009 11:03 PM

    This is laughable.

  4. Moe Lester says: Aug 14, 2009 11:04 PM

HA HA HA HA HA HA. FINALLY! It’s about time we can actually prove that McDaniels is the dumbest person to ever have the title of head coach.

  5. milehiclown says: Aug 14, 2009 11:06 PM

And: Bowlen better offer a MASSIVE contract immediately or we are F’d.

  6. purple haze harvin says: Aug 14, 2009 11:09 PM

Sorry, Moe Lester…that title belongs to Brad Childress of the Vikes!

  7. INVAIDUH says: Aug 14, 2009 11:11 PM

Tell us again how you Donk fans thought
Orton was every bit as good as Cutler….
    Just as good my a$$.

It’s nice that Comcast has given in to the demand. Now while the rest of the NFL loving world is watching the game Mr. Florio is talking about, I get to watch the Cowboy/Raider game. It’s awesome, the “guide” says Niners but the screen says something else. Maybe it’s a blackout, do they do that in preseason?

  9. Rex Grossman says: Aug 14, 2009 11:12 PM

This made my f$@#ing night, Florio. Thank you. Orton is one of my least favorite Bears of all-time. Dude sucks. He made watching the Bears offense less entertaining than constipation.

  10. StevieMo says: Aug 14, 2009 11:13 PM

Dear Josh “King of Hubris” McDaniels,
Bad time for you to learn a valuable lesson: It’s not easy to find a franchise QB in the NFL.
And now that you ran Jay Cutler out of town, it’ll take you six years to find another Jay Cutler.
    Nice move, dumb ass.

Nor a professional football field either! (by his acitons)

Kyle Orton…. The dude is a friggin’ joke!
    BAAAAAAHAAAAA!

  13. BillsFan27 says: Aug 14, 2009 11:26 PM

They traded Cutler, waited too long for Cassell, passed on Sanchez (who had a good debut), and said “no” to an offer for Quinn.
    Instead, he’d rather start Orton.
    McDaniels is confusing.

  14. Farves sweet Hair says: Aug 14, 2009 11:48 PM

how long will this idiot coach last? 1 season? Will see.

  15. ScreamingIdiot says: Aug 14, 2009 11:54 PM

It was rough to watch. He put the ball in places where the WRs had to dive for them and always to where the CBs were.
On one throw he looked like a rookie and just threw it right to a CB.
    Yikes.

  16. HarrisonHits says: Aug 15, 2009 12:11 AM

Even Brady and Manning have bad games, and Orton is learning a complicated new system. I’d like to see him at least one more time before writing him off.

  17. Abe Froeman says: Aug 15, 2009 12:14 AM

Orton will be good. Y’all will see. McD runs a pretty complex system. And Orton was killing it initially. Bad start.

  18. BigBear says: Aug 15, 2009 12:18 AM

Orton is not the same since he hurt his ankle last season. He performed well up to that point, then seemed shaky after his return.

  19. Bob S. says: Aug 15, 2009 12:22 AM

    chris simms is looking great
so is brandon lloyd like when he was with niners
    broncos lead in 4th 10-9

  20. Hillbilly Coach says: Aug 15, 2009 12:42 AM

Denver will really suck this season. The coach is in over his head. Orton has the all the tools except a brain.
Vick could not save this trainwreck.
btw….. if Vick were not allowed back in the NFL, would he still be remorseful? I can see just about anybody showing feigned remorse for million-dollar-plus contract. The Iggles are promising he will display remorse in some concocted media show he’s got planned.
Keep his worthless ass away from my kids!

  21. Jon says: Aug 15, 2009 12:49 AM

The Eagles look like genuises, because you know teams will start panicking already. A little early pre-season trade coming? Now, if they give Vick some playing time (And he plays decent) soon they will get a serious payoff on their gamble. Vicks phone would be ringing off the hook after the way some of these guys played tonight.

Everybody benches Brandon Marshall and drops Eddie Royal at the same time.

  25. MitchAlbom'sEars says: Aug 15, 2009 2:25 AM

Don’t worry Orton will MANAGE the game right ?

  26. Alpheratz says: Aug 15, 2009 3:36 AM

I didn’t realize the disparity in win/loss record until they showed it during the game.
Orton’s record blows Cutler’s out of the water, not even close.
But you insist Cutler is the ‘franchise’ quarterback?
    p.s. – preseason doesn’t count

  27. BleedGreen says: Aug 15, 2009 8:33 AM

    Alpheratz:
Because the Chicago D and the Denver D are even REMOTELY comparable during the time that they both played, right?

  28. prmpft says: Aug 15, 2009 8:52 AM

    here’s what’s gonna happen -
everybody: “orton SUCKS you’re an IDIOT!”
mcdaniel: “no he doesnt (yes he does) – no i’m not (yes i am)”…
    everybody: “you’re LOSING fire him!”
mcdaniel: “no he’s the guy – give him time”(i made the right decision!!!)…

  29. killachap says: Aug 15, 2009 8:58 AM

    Is anyone suprised by this?

  30. SixBurghDude says: Aug 15, 2009 9:26 AM

Maybe the Broncos should have signed Mike Vick
Florio, you got the headline all wrong, it should read:
MAYBE THE BRONCOS SHOULD HAVE SIGNED AN NFL HEAD COACH
This just further exposes the Cheatriots & it amazes me, that these NFL owners who are successful businessmen, are foolish enough to keep hiring these ex-Patsy coaches, when it’s been proven time & again that NONE of them has been even remotely successful, when taken out of BeliCHEAT’s system, that has used illegal methods to achieve their TAINTED success.
Weis has brought the Notre Dame program to new depths of futility. Crennel was a complete failure & goes down as the ONLY coach in Brownie history to have never beaten the Steelers during his tenure there. Mangenius, NOPE! MangIDIOT…yet that didn’t stop the pitiful Cle. franchise from making the same mistake again!!!
Wake up people, there’s a reason why BeliCHEAT is the only coach that does not grant his assistants an easy path to the door, he realizes that every time a coach leaves, he risks further exposure of just how incompetent the staff of so-called geniuses truly are…ex-ball boys as coordinators & high school QB’s putting up double digit win seasons? c’mon man???

  31. Bob Nelson says: Aug 15, 2009 9:44 AM

    McDaniels better than Shanahan
    Orton better than Cutler
Amazing what they drafted with the picks for Cutler
2009 will be remembered as the turning point in the Bronco franchise.
The owner voted for change and look what he got!
Kyle Orton is the only one that will be the recipient of the fans “excitement”

  32. JoeSixPack says: Aug 15, 2009 9:51 AM

UPDATE take 2: Orton is now three for three. Where have you gone, Mike Shanahan?

  33. Alpheratz says: Aug 15, 2009 10:17 AM

Real franchise quarterbacks don’t need excuses made for them.
You are what your record says you are.

  34. goober says: Aug 15, 2009 10:30 AM

    wait wait wait… I thought…
Broncos receivers are really good (i guess the QB DOES have something to do with their “talent”)
Orton was going to have a better year than Cutler
    McDaniels is a genious…
When are you crack smokers gonna come back and take accountability for the stupid stuff you spew?
    Oh that’s right, you wont.

  35. JSpicoli says: Aug 15, 2009 10:52 AM

    Shanny back in 2010

  36. ncm42 says: Aug 15, 2009 11:35 AM

Didn’t JC have at least one 3 INT game in the regular season last year, and several more 2 INT games? I seem to recall JC having a knack for throwing red zone INTs at crucial points in the game. Didn’t John Elway, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady all have 3 INT games? This is the first preseason game. The offense is learning a new system, and it’s going to take time to come together. Every player is going to have a bad game. As long as they come in the preseason, who cares?

  37. cheekychappmusic says: Aug 15, 2009 1:18 PM

No… as much as McIdiot is terrible… no one will EVER be as bad as
    Cam CaMoron
Who destroyed the Miami Dolphins in a matter of months. He was the worst, and will likely always be the worst, coach in NFL history. And he got lucky with Flacco last year, let’s see what happens this year.
    Drafting Ginn and his family…
    Beck…
Not coaching the last preseason game…
