Anderson has a rough night

Browns quarterback Derek Anderson didn’t get the start on Saturday night, when Cleveland traveled to Lambeau Field.

In hindsight, Anderson might wish he hadn’t played at all.

In two drives, Anderson threw two incomplete passes, one of which was intercepted.

Then, with 1:50 on the clock before halftime, starter Brady Quinn returned.

The only silver lining for Anderson is that Quinn threw an interception, too.

As of this posting, the Browns are on the wrong end of a 17-0 score.  You can follow the last few minutes right here, via NFL.com’s Game Center.

Matt Flynn, on the other hand, is the real deal!

Anderson, Quinn, and the entire Browns team had a bad night…they got crushed.
Well Cleveland, at least it’s only the 1st preseason games and there is plenty of time to recover.

Quinn threw a TD pass to Edwards who did guess what? Dropped it! Then threw a ball to Edwards that he didn’t even fight for and got picked. Bench that over rated over paid no hands big mouth QB killer.

packers looked good, even missing quite a few guys.
    browns looked horrible!

Derek Anderson stole and is stealing money from the Browns. He had 1 career year and it just happened to be in a contract year, go figure.
The Ravens cut him! That’s like the KC Royals cutting a player. If he could not QB in the black hole behind center in Baltimore, what makes you think he could go anywhere else?

“In two drives, Anderson threw two incomplete passes, one of which was intercepted.”
That is a neat trick, incomplete and intercepted at the same time.

Solid first game for the Pack. Dominated all phases of the game and loved the new pressure defense. Loved seeing Mangina on the sidelines pissed off all night too!

  9. Zinn says: Aug 15, 2009 11:20 PM

Typical Mangini lifeless, emotionless effortless football. The kind of effort Jets fans came to expect the last 3 years. If your a Browns fan I sympathize with your pain. But you should expect to be outplayed, out hustled and out coached every week. The good news is in 2-3 years things will get a lot better.

  10. Bob Nelson says: Aug 15, 2009 11:31 PM

The Packers had many players out as a precautionary measure and still shut out the Browns.
The Browns didn’t try to much and that huge Lambeau crowd really got the Packers fired up.
It was a very fine defensive performance by the Packers that should eliminate any doubts that they are back in NFC championship form.

Yes, it was backwards from what I thought it would be. I thought Quinn would be great, and the Packers would suck.
Shows you what I know, that Packers looked great…
well, for one game at least.

Derek Aneurysm still needs to grow a brain to play at a high level in the NFL.
Matt Flynn looks like he is going to be a REALLY good back up for Aaron Rogers.
Donald Driver hasn’t missed a beat and should have a productive year.
Brady Quinn just needs a better supporting cast around him and he could thrive.
Braylon Edwards needs to just catch the friggin’ ball.
Final thought…. D. Aneurysm should be backing up Kyle Orton in Denver.

I was at the game, man the Browns suck!

wasnt steve mcnair the qb in baltimore when he got cut?

  15. SixBurghDude says: Aug 16, 2009 1:03 AM

    @ UniBrow-
The PurpleBrownies also cut James Harrison…go figure!

  16. ShimSham says: Aug 16, 2009 3:33 AM

The Packers had about 5 defensive starters absent too.

  17. texline says: Aug 16, 2009 6:23 AM

The game looked like what it was. A professional, well managed team, playing against a rag-tag bunch of thrown togethers without purpose or direction. Seems the only thing that has changed in Cleveland is the coach. Everything else looks virtually the same as it did when Crennel was the coach(and I use that term lightly).

How anyone can project from the first preseason game is beyond me?
The Browns were 4-12 last year for a reason. They installed a brand new offense and are in the middle of evaluating new players so I wouldn’t put any (as in none) stock in this game.

iow, dont get too excited, packers fans.
otoh maybe mangidiot was just “going vanilla” so as to spring all the surprises in week one.

  21. SixBurghDude says: Aug 16, 2009 9:13 AM

    same as it ever was

  22. urbusted says: Aug 16, 2009 9:22 AM

It is what it is. The Browns didn’t play their defensive starters too long either. Shawn Rogers played very little and the Browns rotated a few of the linebackers. Much work is needed. The Packers are looking like a pretty good ball club at this point.

The Clowns still looking for a QB after all these years – Maybe they should resign Tim Couch, he’s looking for a job!!!

  24. Patsfan1776 says: Aug 16, 2009 9:27 AM

I think Mangini has the team right where he wants them. I wouldn’t change a thing and the other teams in that division are thinking the same thing.

Does Mangina’s failures as a coach give you Massholes a chubby? The only thing you PatsyFaggs drool over more, is your MetroSexual mag posing QB’s sack…he EXPOSED your deplorable team as the Cheats that they are and you & yours have defended it to your last breath, for the purpose of self-satisfaction, now you have the unenviable task of swallowing the TAINED load that goes with it!

Man the dog pound needs mike vick…man you guys screwed up not getting that guy!

  27. TheBengal13 says: Aug 16, 2009 12:19 PM

    SixBurghDouche:
Are you really calling another team “cheaters”? Even though you’re referring to the Patriots, that’s still the definition of “the pot calling the kettle black”. Don’t be jealous of Brady just because he can legitimately get a woman an doesn’t have to rape her to get some lovin’ (like a certain Shrek-esque Tittsburgh QB that I know). Keep up with those threatening phone calls to small Ben’s victim and make sure that you send thank you cards to whoever takes out a QB by injury this year, like Cheater Nation did with Bernard Pollard last year. You stay classy, Tittsburgh.

For those of you who support Eric Mangni, don’t worry – he’s exactly on track following the same path to excellence of his mentor, Bill Belichick:
To ensure success, the first thing one must do is get fired from the Browns.
Mangini looks to be WAY ahead of schedule there.
However Browns fans might want to worry

Shaun Rodgers didnt play. Loving Derek Aneurysm. Funniest one I have come across yet. And it REALLY fits.

  30. SpartaChris says: Aug 16, 2009 1:32 PM

Being as how it was the first pre-season game, I wouldn’t read too much into things. Lets see how we do by week 3 before getting too excited.
That said, I was impressed with our defense, given we were missing both Al Harris and Charles Woodson, Raji, Clay Matthews and Nick Barnett. All in all a pretty solid showing.
We still have some things we can work on to improve, but it did look promising. But, it’s only week 1. I’m interested to see how the rest unfolds.

  31. footballrulz says: Aug 16, 2009 2:48 PM

Correct SpartaChris. It’s only one game and against an admittedly pretty bad team. Too early to get real cocky. I was surprised at the defensive effort which sat out quite a few starters. Haven;t seen the game yet (Thank goodness for TIVO) but Rodgers & the Oline evidently played well. Sounds like a lot of the improvements we needed are at least being addressed. From what I can gather still too many stupid penalties (false starts).
Browns fans–only one game. Don;t get too despaired yet but I feel for ya with Mangingi.
Vick in the Dawg Pound–way too much irony. Moreso than the Eagles selling dog jerseys.
    Hillbilly Coach–U R Sick!!!!
