The Jets didn’t play Kellen Clemens and Mark Sanchez for too long in their preseason opener because three offensive line starters were out of the game.
One of those starters, guard Alan Faneca, may miss the entire preseason after undergoing surgery to repair the middle finger on his left hand.
Jets coach Rex Ryan is confident Faneca won’t miss any regular season time because of the injury, so the surgery isn’t a huge concern.
Still, the Jets will probably also be without starters Damien Woody (concussion) and Nick Mangold (knee) when Mark Sanchez gets his first preseason start a week from Monday against Baltimore.
The coach has to be a little nervous about sending Sanchez out there without great protection.
Ryan knows better than anyone what the Ravens can do to young quarterbacks.
